Is this hearing the precursor to the Democratic 2020 primaries? Harris and Booker making a show.

We're they cleared like Booker's already were before he put on his act?

Are the people in charge so stupid as to not realize how much this kind of stuff plays directly into Trump's "fake news" claims? That was nothing more than a show put on by a guy who is going to run for President, making himself out to be a false martyr. I mean, really.

Ksyrup 09-06-2018 01:44 PM

The whole thing is a joke - the hearing and the way it's being covered.

Fox is running with the "not confidential" story as if that's the biggest issue, and basically ignoring the substance. CNN, meanwhile,is still running a headline calling the emails confidential, but then has this as the first line of the story: Sen. Cory Booker's office just sent out an email linking to 12 pages of the documents that were previously marked "committee confidential."

Also, these people are the worst of the worst. They know, better than anyone, that the President is unfit. And they have the access to let us know that so that the constitutional process for removing him could begin in earnest.

But instead they prop him up because they are afraid that throwing him out might depress turnout in Iowa or some shit. Fuck those people for keeping Trump's finger on the button.

Well put.

Also, this from Rick Wilson. Fun.

They've got him lying under oath and admitting the Roe v. Wade isn't settled law. What more do you want?

JPhillips 09-06-2018 04:19 PM

The whole game hinges on Collins, Murkowski, and maybe Scott. Collins has said she will only vote for a nominee that won't overturn Roe. She's been appeased by hearing both Gorsuch and Kavanaugh say Roe is settled law. In the email he objects to calling Roe settled.

I doubt it matters, as I think all the GOP will do what they always do, get in line when told, but maybe it's enough to sway Collins. Everything is going to take on immense proportion when one GOP no vote potentially sinks the nomination.

I don't deny it can be a game for those participating, but the outcome of that game has real impact on people's lives. Politics is about the distribution of power, and who wields power matters to people. Regardless of your personal politics, these decisions do matter and everyone involved isn't fighting for the same interests.

I read the emails, and I think he was objecting to the phrasing on a technicality, the point being whether anyone can definitively state that any legal precedent is "settled law." Any legal precedent can come to be settled law... until it's not. Now, whether he views Roe as the only case he might believe could be overturned as opposed to, say, certain 4th Amendment cases, or interstate commerce cases, we're not going to get an answer.

I agree. I'm just saying that Collins has said she's fine with Kavanaugh in part because he agrees that Roe is settled law. This memo makes it clear he doesn't see Roe as settled. Regardless of whether he's talking about Roe specifically or all case law, the outcome in terms of Collins is the same.

I also think it won't matter. Collins has proven over and over that as long as she hears the right words, the reality doesn't matter. I'm still waiting on the ACA fixes she was promised.

From his Billings rally. I don't know if the ads screen capped in the twitter feed are real, but apparently there was an ad like this for his last appearance here too. and it would definitely not shock me. What a fucking circus.

Rantt Media on Twitter: "At Trump’s Montana rally, some of his supporters seemed irritated. Some seemed unenthusiastic and even bored.

Is this why multiple supporters were swapped out?… https://t.co/lqZTen3aXf"

Considering how quickly they filed the re-election papers so they could keep collecting campaign donations, I'm a little surprised it took two years for one to surface in the wild.

Papadopoulous about to be the first Trump campaign member to be sentenced. Prosecutors say they went through 100,000 emails and 8GB of data to uncover what Papa could have told them originally. His own attorney called George naive and stupid and blamed Donald Trump for his fake news campaign complicating this case.

Edit: 14 days. Knew it wasn't going to be a lot but was hoping it was closer to the 6 months prosecutors were hoping for. Does not go directly to jail.

He will be a completely changed man I'm sure. :) The important fact is that he's now another member of the Trump tribe who's a felon.

I have to think that there was more cooperation on Papa's behalf that we've been lead to believe. Because Probation Office was only suggesting 30 days, and sentencing guidelines on this crime seem rather light. Mueller's team wanted 6 months, so still not a big time in jail regardless. He was hoping to walk with no jail time which would have been really ridiculous if it happened.

Let's just hope we are not similarly disappointed when Manafort's sentencing happens this month (and he still has another trial)

By analyze I mean taking established code and pointing it at Trump's account.

Here's a word cloud from a sampling of @realDonalTrump tweets

So a Democratic Super Pac has filed a criminal complaint against Kavanaugh for perjury. Doubt it goes anywhere, but could be amusing if it does cause the initial reviewer would be (unless he recuses himself) Merrick Garland :)

Keep in mind it's people tweeting about Trump and not just Donald's tweets.

I believe this is only limited to Trump tweets. It's also based off 423 tweets. I guess searching for tweets using R isn't as robust as you'd think it'd be.

We have an A+ record on handling hurricanes affecting American citizens. Shouldn't be an issue.
