He also, incidentally, does not actually understand what "sarcastically" means.

I think this is worse than if he was serious. How can anyone old enough to be out of kidnergarten not know that it's totally, completely, and in all other ways inappropriate to make this kind of a joke on this kind of a topic. Against strong competition, I'm not sure this isn't the worst thing he's done as president. |
Come on guy, learn to take a joke. If the leader of a nation approaching 50K deaths and economic destruction can't joke about drinking bleach what can he joke about?

Quote:
Similarly, I was thinking that he's probably done or said things that are morally worse, but if judging for just plain stupidity, this might be his high-water mark. I thought that months or years ago I had reached the point where nothing Trump could do or say could truly shock/stump me anymore, but this whole inject-the-light thing has really broken through that glass floor. |
And he's so unwilling to admit mistakes that in the long quote he keeps going back and forth from, it was sarcastic, to, but it might work.

Both most likely, but definitely a peddler

You know, I am already tired of all the "This is how crazy it was on the inside!" books that will come out after this presidency is over. People who are in a position to stop him or to leave in protest are sticking around, and they will then ease their conscience (and make a lot of money) by writing a book after it is over telling us that "we shouldn't put a crazy guy in charge again!" |

This is brilliant!
|
So we had a guy come in to my work to place an order. He was complaining that he was out of business (he rented cold drink machines to parties or something).
Then he went on a rant that a bunch of Obama appointees who never took an economics class was hamstringing the president. Then he mentioned that he wanted coronavirus now (instead of possibly getting it the summer when lockdowns might lifted) and asked if we knew any big-boobed women with the virus that he could kiss. Sadly I don't know any. |

The bleach thing has been around for awhile in anti-vaxxer and autism circles. Think they use "bleach enemas" on their kids. Trump has dabbled in anti-vax stuff so not terribly surprising that he'd come across this stuff either online or through contacts. Plus the bleach thing has been around for awhile now in right-wing circles. It's a part of the Qanon thing. Alan Keyes and some others were selling bleach cures for other things too. I don't think it was something that just came out of the blue. |

So many people have spent so much time over the last four years trying to understand Trump's words and attack or defend him. It is very very simple: He's (1) not that smart, (2) impulsive, and (3) an external processor. That's it. That explains 99% of the "crazy" stuff he says. Boring but true. |

Trump has tweeted that he's not even sure why he's having these press conferences if all the media are going to do is ask nothing but hostile questions:
"What is the purpose of having White House News Conferences when the Lamestream Media asks nothing but hostile questions, & then refuses to report the truth or facts accurately. They get record ratings, & the American people get nothing but Fake News. Not worth the time & effort!" Americans are in quarantine or dying and he can't be bothered to hold news conferences anymore because he's not being praised enough for his altogether inadequate response to the pandemic. So that's why there was no news conference today and none scheduled for tomorrow. |
In a different timeline Pence would be the President and his 65% approval rating would put GOP control of the House into play.

My theory: Trump's press conferences were hurting his numbers. And his people knew that. And they knew that they had to get him to stop. But you can't just tell the President (especially this president) that the problem is him. So I am sure that they explained it to him as "You are awesome, sir. But the media is distorting you, so you need to stop giving so many press conferences." So it would make sense that media hatred is at the front of his mind. |
That's a solid theory.

Trump wants us to know how stupid we are:

It's certainly going to be hard to talk to future generations about the esteem that comes with 'winning' the presidency and the type of leadership required to win that sort of election. The pinnacle of characteristics found consistently in them...
and then there's this one outlier. |
Washington Post did an analysis of Trump's speaking during his briefings. Apparently, out of 13 hours of talking, he spent 4.5 minutes expressing condolences for the victims.
I mean, that is just such an own goal. Getting up there and talking about how sorry you are for the losses of so many brave Americans is politics 101. I'm not saying you have to believe it. I imagine most politicians don't believe stuff like that. But you still say it. It makes you look human. It makes you look like you care. It dispels the idea that you are a narcissist. It is kind of amazing (in a morbid way) that Trump has such little empathy that he can't even understand why faking empathy is important. |
Quote:
He's a narcissist. I've been saying that since the election. Part of narcissism is the inability to have empathy and the other is genuinely believing that everything is indeed, about you. The inability of others to put a cover on him, has just further exaggerated this point. He's a textbook case. |

It seems like the small business loans were intended to go to large corporations as well. There were so many ready to jump in. It's just a question of whether the Democrats didn't notice, were out-maneuvered, to accepted it as a concession.

I applied for a PPP loan during the first round but it ran out before they processed mine. I'm in queue now for the second round. I know they put a clause in this time to put more money towards small banks, which mine is, so I'm hoping that gives me a shot but I can't get any sense from my bank how far in the queue I am. I wish I just knew because I have to decide between that, and EIDL loan and unemployment.

You'll never get that EIDL loan. I'd aim for PPP. Have you tried Paypal? Heard people having success there. |

I filed for the pandemic unemployment a week ago. We’ll see how long that takes to even get a determination. My tax refund for this year has been held up for 60+ days now because of a reporting glitch by one of my wife’s W2 forms. It’s all an annoying shit show. I was doing a lot of food delivery for awhile but that shit makes you want to strangle people.

I'm against bailing out the cruise lines in general, but I don't get why it matters that they incorporated outside the US. Either it's important to bail them out for the good of the greater economy or it isn't, and where they incorporate isn't relevant to that decision.

Because they don't pay US taxes and hardly employee US citizens? How is it any different than bailing out some resort in the Dominican Republic? |
It's not any different. When it comes to the economy, we're at least 20 years past the point where it makes sense to think nationally. The economy and larger corporations themselves are global. Our money should go where it's best to minimize damage to the overall economy, because there's no such thing as our economy doing well if the global economy isn't.

Florida a swing state tho, and undecided voters love them some 7NC

Quote:
My biggest issue it is that the money is much better spent on small businesses here, many of which are getting shafted on this stimulus bailout. At the end of the day, not being able to take a cruise on a foreign owned entity is not going to devastate the global economy like thousands of small businesses going under will harm ours. It just increases the disparity between big and small business sector. Local family owned businesses are such a value to community and it kills me to see so many of them fall by the wayside while the CEO's of big corporations profit from this. We give a 100 a week to a local family business, whether it be leaving 100 tip on a takeout to split between employees, or sending through paypal to others (The Jiu Jitsu academy I train at as an example) I know that is an almost insignificant drop in the bucket, but we do it because we value them. I wish our Government felt the same way. |
Quote:
But who gives a rip of carnival goes out of business? If there is the demand someone else will fill it and maybe they will fly under a US flag, pay taxes, etc... These cruise lines for years have skirted the system to their benefit and now they want a bail out, screw that. |

I'm sure this has been vetted through focus groups of fuckwits self-identifying as open to voting for Trump... so the "look masculine and authoritative, not sissified and weak" is very much a mood. Oh, and fuck the sick people, who gives a fuck about them. Just jam eleventy people in the tiny room for the photo op, and let the boss be a boss without a mask because reasons. |
I bet Trump has either ordered senior people to go without masks, or he's talked about them so much that they know not to wear them.

Carnival wouldn't even go out of business. They would just file bankruptcy and emerge from that. That is how this should work.

I've been very impressed with the NC Governor through all this.
He's a Democrat running a slightly red-leaning state, but he's managing to keep things pretty balanced and people pretty happy from what I can tell. |
