I was going to flame this for being one of those bullshit phony "Fact!" spams, but the visual kicked in and I'm laughing my ass off.

It's actually pretty common. That paper prop is used in everything.

That is not a flattering 'now' picture of Miss Watson.

It kind of gets the point across though - our little Emma has grown up and is (not unexpectedly) a very attractive young woman.

dawgfan 04-26-2011 04:14 PM

Great collection of nature/vista shots. A few of them look like HDR - I'm going to have to start experimenting with that on my camera.

There are few flattering pictures of Miss Watson now. She's gone with a very short semi-butch lesbian haircut that just isn't good at all.

MikeVic 04-26-2011 04:20 PM

I think it's fine, but then again I liked Natalie Portman without hair.

Agreed on both accounts, but I have had a thing for bald/shaved haired women for a long, long time.

That's true, but he also traded up - way up - in TV wives...

ColtCrazy 04-26-2011 11:29 PM

This is a picture I originally took in January. It was my first attempt at HDR. Not as bold of colors as some I've seen, but considering how bland the original was, I was pretty happy with this.

Buccaneer 04-27-2011 12:12 AM

As a former landscape photographer, I have been curious about such high-contrast, unnatural looking photos. I guess it's yet another evolutionary step in digital imaging, esp. when Photoshop introduced "Merge to HDR" functionality. I miss the days when one simply print a transparency/negative on photo paper without first altering it through imaging software.

But HDR certainly does produce spectacular works of digital art.

Sorry to ask such a vague question, but how do you get the colors to be so vibrant?

I would like to know too ;)

I just bought a Nikon D5100 and really have no clue how to "use it". I'm officially an inspiring amateur photographer ;)

dawgfan 04-27-2011 02:20 PM

HDR is a technique that allows you to mix the results of multiple shots set with different exposure values into one image. By taking shots with a couple steps higher and a couple steps lower than your target stop value, you can combine the best parts of those exposures with your "normal" exposure and get a more vibrant, interesting result.

Some cameras now have built in settings to allow you to easily get the multiple exposures you need, but you can also manually do this simply by adjusting your f-stop values and taking multiple pictures in succession. Obviously for matching purposes, you'd want to do this when your camera is solidly mounted on a tripod to ensure consistent framing. If you have a human subject, you'd really need to have the built-in multiple exposure feature in your camera so you can rapidly get the pictures you need without the movement of your model becoming noticeable.

Of course, to merge these images into one you need the right software. There are many stand alone HDR programs out there, and recent versions of Photoshop have this feature built-in.

My school missed 2 days this week for flooding. This is a pretty good reason why. This was in the middle of one of the bus routes. Used to be a road.

Or rather body of an angel and face of Mr. Ed in a blond wig?

She has a body to die for and the lips to suck the chrome off a trailer hitch.

This. Now Bucc is cool for two reasons, the other one involves a Jeep.

I don't know. I'd make her bake me a cake and then when it was frosted, I'd have her get into bed, naked and I'd give her a piece of cake to eat...while I eat a piece of cake in bed next to her. But, I'd use her ass as a plate. That would be a good day.

EDIT: Somehow my post ended up at the top....

For Pumpy:

ColtCrazy 04-27-2011 07:46 PM

dawgfan pretty much explained the HDR process. The background on my pic:

I originally took these with that girl in January, during a sunny, cold day. Not a lot of color because the sun washed a lot of things out. Yet, the session went great and I got a done of good composition shots from it.

I wasn't a huge HDR fan at first...some look totally fake. But with that pic, I loved how she was looking down into the water and the way the background looked. If I was going to play with HDR, seemed like a good photo to test it.

But I had to cheat a little. Normally, you take multiple shots of the same thing at different exposures. The HDR software then puts them together (how, I'm not sure, I'm still learning it myself). I used Lightroom to take the original image and make 2 copies and difference exposures. I then took all 3 versions and made the pic you saw. I used a free software program called Picturenaut. However, I've since learned my recently installed CS5 has this feature, but I just haven't had time to learn it (it's a lot deeper than Lightroom, which I like for basic editing).

Overall, I'm more into composition than editing, but if I'm going to make a little side money I know it's necessary. I can see how HDR would enhance certain portraits with great backgrounds.
