Are you saying you don't want the government to save 240 trillion dollars???

albionmoonlight 02-26-2025 06:10 PM

Non-political thread. I really was just commenting on the fact that I was looking forward to the new nasal vaccine, etc. and now those are going to be delayed/never happen in America.

Trump Administration Pulls Funding for Bird Flu Vaccine

Ghost Econ 06-02-2025 09:25 AM

Birds should have the right to choose whether they and their chicks are vaccinated. I know I don't wanna eat no autistic bird.

The White House on Wednesday said it had fired Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Susan Monarez after she refused to resign.
Four other top CDC officials announced they were quitting the embattled health agency.

It's going to be a long 3.2 years.

The leadership crisis at CDC erupted the same day the Food and Drug Administration announced new limits on who can get the latest approved round of Covid vaccines in the U.S.

Tried to get one last shot at CVS but got below. Oh well, guess I'll have to live with a flu shot.

COVID-19 (new) vaccines are unavailable

Due to state restrictions or inventory we're unable to schedule your vaccine. You can still continue with your Flu vaccine or try a new location.

A COVID wave is washing over California, with the state seeing continued increases in the number of newly confirmed cases and hospitalizations as some officials urged the public to take greater precautions.

Coronavirus cases are increasing in Sacramento County, and coronavirus wastewater levels are considered high
Quote:

Coronavirus levels in San Francisco wastewater, and COVID hospitalizations, are up this summer "but remain below last summer's peaks."
Quote:

In Santa Clara County, Northern California's most populous county, COVID-related hospitalizations are up, and coronavirus levels are "high" in the sewershed of San José and Palo Alto. Current viral levels in wastewater are now similar to the levels seen in the summer of 2023, but haven't reached last summer's peak.

On one hand, it seems ominous. But then, couple quotes above says its "below or similar" to levels seen in 2023/2024 and I've not read other countries struggling with an outbreak. So, not sure really how serious it is or is article driven by recent anti-RFK & anti-vaccination news. And then again, I assume a good number of us have some level of lingering benefit from previous shots which should mean it won't get near as bad as 2020-22.

RFK seems to want to do away with the COVID vaccinations altogether. IMO the simple answer is, at a minimum, let people who want to take the shots, get the shots, and pay out of pocket or through some state (Floridians, you are out of luck) program.

Do you actually think they're going to not ban the flu shots?

My coworker already said that the flu vaccine only matches the flu 14% of the time

Completely false but the maha/anti-vax people are already following the playbook

Got my flu shot at the Kaiser today.

Spoke to the technician about Covid. He said Kaiser is not giving out any Covid shots right now, they are waiting to hear something definite. He said it's not definitely ruled out yet.

I read a Covid shot was $200+ without insurance. I'll probably get one when I travel, it'll be interesting to see how much it costs there.

Edward64 09-11-2025 09:06 PM

Got this today.

I'm not sure I believe this isn't a bug/feature. I've not read anything about RFK relenting on Covid shots. But got my fingers crossed that it's true.

Your COVID-19 vaccine update

The 2025-26 COVID-19 vaccine will be available at no cost for Kaiser Permanente members 6 months and older. We are receiving vaccine supply from manufacturers and will begin providing vaccines September 15.

Each year, we review the latest scientific evidence and consider clinical guidance from our physician experts and many sources, including leading medical societies, to develop our COVID‑19 vaccine guidance. Vaccination remains one of the safest and most effective ways to help protect against severe illness. This includes children and families whose health would be at risk if they got COVID‑19.

A prescription for Covid vaccination not needed but have to consult with a healthcare provider. I think this is reasonable compromise and is not as bad as I feared.

The question I have is the CVS pharmacist considered a healthcare provider? I think yes?

CDC advisers vote that patients must consult a health care provider for Covid-19 vaccination, but no prescription required | CNN
Quote:

Vaccine advisers to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention voted unanimously on Friday to shift away from a broad recommendation for Covid-19 vaccines to say that people who want one must consult with a health care provider, a process known as shared clinical decision-making.

However, the committee was split on whether to recommend that a prescription for a Covid-19 vaccine should be required. That vote was 6-6; Dr. Martin Kulldorff, the chair of the committee, voted no, which broke the tie.

The committee now says people 65 and older should make the decision about whether to get a Covid-19 vaccine with a doctor or another health care provider. It should be the same for people ages 6 months to 64 years, the vaccine advisers voted, but with “an emphasis that the risk-benefit of vaccination is most favorable for individuals who are at an increased risk for severe COVID-19 disease and lowest for individuals who are not at an increased risk, according to the CDC list of COVID-19 risk factors.”
Quote:

The recommendations are not final; they go to Acting CDC Director Jim O’Neill for approval. O’Neill, a deputy of HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s, has led the agency since Dr. Susan Monarez was ousted abruptly last month.

And importantly, covered by insurance. For those without insurance, not sure their options ...

Quote:

In a statement, a US Department of Health and Human Services spokesperson said the vote on shared clinical decision-making “provides for immunization coverage through all payment mechanisms including entitlement programs such as Children’s Health Insurance Program, Medicaid, and Medicare, as well as insurance plans through the federal Health Insurance Marketplace.”

Got my booster yesterday. The CVS only let you do it through a Minute Clinic, not any pharmacy.

They did want to put down the relevant qualifying condition for insurance purposes.

In NC in case that matters.

It knocked Mrs. A. out, but I felt just a bit tired the next day.

Edward64 09-20-2025 10:01 PM

Kaiser did open up appts for shots. Unfortunately, the earliest is Sep 30 which is after I leave for a trip.

But I will try to get a Moderna/Pfizer shot in Asia. I'm curious how much it costs.
