John Cleese’s classic “silly walk” burns more calories than a normal gait | Ars Technica

Edward64 12-30-2022 08:36 PM

Which reminds me of Wegovy. Anyone have any opinions on it, talk with their Dr. etc.?

Quote:

Weight loss may begin within the first 4 weeks of treatment with Wegovy, but the full effects of treatment may not be seen for several months or longer.

In studies, weight loss was assessed over a 68-week period.

Patients taking Wegovy lost an average of 35 lbs (15.9 kg), or about 15% of their body weight compared to 6 lbs (2.7 kg), or roughly 2.5% body weight in the placebo group.

Overall, after 68 weeks, 83% of people taking Wegovy lost 5% or more of their weight compared to 31% of people taking a placebo.
I don't qualify based on below but I can see an over-the-counter pill one of these days.

Quote:

Wegovy is used in addition to diet and exercise for long-term weight management in adults who are either obese (BMI ≥30 kg/m2) or overweight (BMI ≥27 kg/m2) with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol.

Pentagon tracking suspected Chinese spy balloon over the US | CNN Politics
Quote:

The US is tracking a suspected Chinese high-altitude surveillance balloon over the continental United States, a senior defense official said on Thursday.

The Pentagon has been tracking the balloon for several days as it made its way over the northern United States, Pentagon spokesman Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder said.
Quote:

“Why not shoot it down? We have to do the risk-reward here,” the official said. “So the first question is, does it pose a threat, a physical kinetic threat, to individuals in the United States in the US homeland? Our assessment is it does not. Does it pose a threat to civilian aviation? Our assessment is it does not. Does it pose a significantly enhanced threat on the intelligence side? Our best assessment right now is that it does not. So given that profile, we assess the risk of downing it, even if the probability is low in a sparsely populated area of the debris falling and hurting someone or damaging property, that it wasn’t worth it.”

Two, if you're in a relationship and plan to move out of state to marry someone else, best not stay on Match.com or continue seeing someone else. Perhaps there's more to that part of the story since this lady turned into a crazy stalker, but that's the condensed version of the story, anyway.

Three, those of us who use Strava are telling people where to find us to murder us. For me, though, since 99.9% of my runs are on a treadmill using iFit where my posted locations are various spots all over the world while I run in place in my Kentucky basement, the joke's on my hired killer!

Four, if you're gonna have someone killed, perhaps don't threaten them with death in person and through continuous harrassing calls and damage their cars. Teachers fed up with 11-year-old kids wearing diapers to school
Quote:

If your kid knows how to play on an iPad, they should know how to use the loo.

Teachers in Switzerland are complaining about too many students wearing diapers in class because they don’t know how to use the toilet.

“Kids are going to school as early as 4 years old now, so yeah, you might actually find some still in diapers,” Dagmar Rösler, head of the Swiss Federation of Teachers, told Swiss newspaper 20 Minuten.

“When 11-year-olds come to school in diapers, that’s a worrying trend.”

Many tots have become so accustomed to wearing diapers that they lose interest in transitioning out of the convenient but unsanitary method.

The average age to potty train children is between 18 months and 24 months, according to Mayo Clinic, but many parents seem to be avoiding the training session.

“Some parents let it slide because diapers are a convenient relief. It’s not seen as a problem these days,” said educational scientist Margrit Stamm. “That sends a totally wrong message.”
