Maybe fewest?

No, that's not it, but they seem to have a surprising number:

State Map by average # of tornadoes per year :) (record, day, cities) - Weather -Temperature, sun, sunlight, rain, hurricanes, tornadoes, climate, forecasts, humidity, heat, snow... - City-Data Forum

I. J. Reilly 01-27-2011 04:47 PM

I would have been guessing for a long time before I came up with the dumbest state in the union. Of course I've never been to Maine, so maybe it's not as surprising as I think.

That's because you're an idiot.

I love Subby, and not in a platonic way either.

Well, you did a great job of explaining it. Thanks for the input.

What is there to explain about it? It is pretty self-explanatory.

If I didn't find some of your post funny I wouldn't have read enough of them to think most likely that you're not an ass. I thought tarcone needed more explanation of him being an idiot. Well, at least that's what crossed my mind when I read his response cause it would have been more interesting, so your post was entertaining when it wasn't suppose to be. Okay, have a nice weekend.

It's and era and genre defining moment in music. It's an iconic video that is regarded as one of the best in rock history. It was legendary. That ladies and girls, is the beginning, and how cool would it be to know what we know now, and go back and see it unfold or be a part of it?

It's a very cool picture.

cartman 01-27-2011 11:02 PM

Not bad for a mid-1980s teenie bopper.

Okay, since it seems to be escaping you, here's a little background.

There were these two guys, see? One was named Kurt and the other was named Krist. And they decided to start a band. Now, you may not be familiar with what a "band" is, so I'll tell you: it's a loose affiliation of people who enjoy making rhythmic sounds in a predetermined pattern using both their bodies and by stroking or smiting specially constructed boxes called "instruments". At ANY rate, they decided after several false starts to call themseves "Nirvana" and eventually settled on joining up with a third guy named Dave.

Now, Kurt and Krist had already had some minor success playing their "music" on the college circuit, but soon after Dave joined, they began working as "musicians" for a group of people that specialized in taking this "music" crafted by people in "bands" and using techincal skill to imprint that "music" on platters which were then offered to the community in exchange for something called "money".

Now, here's the interesting part. These "musicians" discovered early on that great sums of this "money" could be had if ordinary people like you and me actually SAW the music being performed. Eventually musicians realized that people did not actually have to be present at the same site that the musicians were using their "instruments", but were content to watch these performances on something called "television". In fact, people were willing to watch various scenes played out on their "televisions" that had only the most tangential connection to the "music" that was being played. Some other people had learned that they could convince bands to put their music with dubious picture content on something called "MTV". It seems like a quaint and primitive notion in this more enlightened age, but this video-based music once played almost without end on the "MTV". And thus it was that our heroes decided to make one of these video-based music compositions.

As you can see from the above document, they decided to take moving pictures of many people who, despite their advanced ages, still appeared to be of ephebic demeanor. Now, since they were not of world-famous stature, they could not afford simply to hire a team of professionals to expertly portray these people, and so prevailed upon people in the greater Culver City, California area who were familiar with the music for which these young men were known to assist in their endeavor.

Happily, their decision was a wise one. The "song" that was played, and the accompanying pictures that alternately aroused and unsettled the youth of the day gained acceptance far and wide, and helped make these young men very very wealthy. On this day we at FOFC honor them by reprinting the very broadsheet circular upon which the hopes of a few and yet the dreams of many were founded. Over time more than 120,000 people have stepped forward to claim they were there in the sweaty gym where the visual accompaniment to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was filmed. It is in ancient artifacts like this that the truth shines brightly in the sun.

It should be noted, however, that many dogs eat cat doo-doos. That second photo is just crap.

cartman 01-27-2011 11:13 PM

Shkspr, you were the guy standing next to me at The Toadies concert at that place off of Camp Bowie back in '91, aren't you?

cuervo72 01-27-2011 11:13 PM

Bah, I never liked Nirvana all that much anyway.

(worth noting that I spent much of the early 90s in a cultural vacuum, without cable and living in buildings that couldn't pick up radio signals and if they DID would have only played hip hop, talk or country stations [Baltimore])

I was perfectly in tune with culture at the time, and I also never liked Nirvana all that much.

That said, that's a pretty cool image up above. Not sure why that's hard to understand. Perhaps tarcone was too young at that time to appreciate it now.

Nah, he was standing by me in a 700 square foot box called Joe's Garage off Hwy 80 in Fort Worth wondering how loud this little group called Pantera could actually get.

(Honestly, I had no idea if that was an original poster or whatever the significance of that poster, personally and, yes, I am familiar with Nirvana and "Smells Like Teen Spirit". But, you know, don't let that get in the way of a silly little flame war between posters.)

Nirvana originated in SoCal? Weird...

jeff061 01-28-2011 09:58 AM

They became consumer goods in SoCal.

Rizon 01-28-2011 11:31 AM

I'm pretty sure they started in Washington and recorded Nevermind in SoCal.

They were helped to form by a band called The Melvins, too. They did a sweet cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit:
