And Trump posts bond.

Have to believe there is extra strong wording in there in case Trump violates/breaks the conditions of the bond. Hope that company has a good legal team.

Quote:

The bond is underwritten by Knight Specialty Insurance, a California-based insurance company, but the court document does not list the collateral that Trump used to secure the bond.

And he also had the gag order extended to others given his continuing mention of the judge's wife. I have to think he's close to jail time because that's the one thing he can't just let someone take his place/pay for him.

PilotMan 04-02-2024 04:38 PM

Anyone shocked that trump has now sued his truth social co-founders for their shares?

How many times can one violate a gag order before one faces actual consequences?

IANAL but I imagine Trump wants to challenge the gag order saying it violates his 1st amendment rights and delay his trials even further.

And honestly I have no idea where the balance between gag orders and free speech is, though I tend to side with free speech.

They're walking a fine line with him because I think he's trying to use this to get the trial delayed. Aa soon as he's penalized he's going to appeal and ask the case be put on hold.

Thomkal 04-12-2024 02:09 PM

So Walt Nauta, Trump's "bodyman' charged in the classified documents case for moving the storage cases, said in his FBI interview transcript that he looked in some of the cases and all that was there was personal items like deodrant and shampoo because Trump is a secret hoarder. So then i guess he was innocent after all-and those special secure places to look at the documents were for protection against the chemicals in the bottles?

And hey what do you know, Trump's visit to a Chick'Fil'a in georgia was all staged with a GOP intern for the Republican Party in GA.

Whaddya know, a relatively young person with a functioning brain. Cool to know those exist in Atlanta.

RainMaker 04-12-2024 03:57 PM

Off-topic but did Chick-Fil-A change their chicken sandwich? Last couple times I've been it's felt off. Not bad or anything, just not as good as it was.

Also they need to bring back that honey pimento cheese chicken sandwich.

I don't have a source offhand, but I heard they have moved from using no antibiotics chicken to allowing for chicken raised with antibiotics. Some people, like my stepdaughter, really don't like the change.

Jury selection is underway in NY for Trump's hush money/stormy daniels trial.

albionmoonlight 04-15-2024 10:30 AM

I am surprised. I thought he'd fake an illness or fire his lawyers to delay today.

Why would an innocent man do such a thing?

albionmoonlight 04-15-2024 12:32 PM

Apparently he fell asleep.

I'm not sure how she could have triangulated it, but was there a way for Haley to have argued "both of these guys are senile old men" and try and kill two birds with one stone?

This is also why--barring a personal financial catastrophe--I am not going to be doing anything of substance into my late 70s.

Fishing, drinking coffee, playing board games with my other retired friends.

I want to be able to take an unplanned 10 AM nap in peace and have people say "Aw. Grandpa looks cute. Put a blanket over him" and have that be the end of it.

Thomkal 04-18-2024 03:00 PM

Seeing lots of reports of Trump farting in court. No joke.

Thomkal 04-19-2024 04:19 PM

so the trial is now set for monday-and the judge has already had enough of trump's lawyers filing on motions he had already discussed and ruled on. check out this thread on Twitter-they had a hearing on what Trump can be cross-examined on if he decides to testify-it won't be pretty for him. Scroll up and down to see it all.

Yeah saw that too-really wish the press wouldn't go there-there's plenty already to not like about trump-these seems cheap and petty. i mean we all fart on a regular basis, so unless it some how is disrupting the trial i wish they wouldn't dwell on it.

flere-imsaho 04-19-2024 05:03 PM

Every time Biden blinks twice in quick succession the press is all over it, so some focus on Trump being everyone's old, drunk, racist, disgusting uncle is just fine.

I'm confused by this. Is the judge claiming the lawsuit is frivolous and should have never been filed?

SirFozzie 04-19-2024 07:21 PM

The lawsuit the Judge is referring to is one that Trump filed against Clinton, that caused him (trump) to be sanctioned for nearly a million dollars.

Other Stuff from the Pagliery thread that seems important

Merchan:

After denying Trump's *third* attempt to review a minor point in a previous ruling by the judge, Merchan shows he's had enough.

"Defense is literally targeting individual decisions one by one by one and writing pre-motion letters. That has to end.."

"There comes at point that you accept my rulings. I've entertained your motions. I've entertained your arguments... but at some point you need to accept the court's rulings. There's nothing else to clarify."

Merchan now serving up a dish of reality to the former president's legal team, which seems to think they can still avoid the inevitable.

"There's nothing else to reargue. We're going to have opening statements Monday morning. This trial is starting."

Can we get this judge to replace Cannon?

It's obvious to all that Trump's MO is to delay delay delay, stretch it out. It generally works out in civil trials, because he usually can drag it out so long that the other person gets tired of the legal warfare and drops it just to get rid of Trump (or goes bankrupt from expenses)

The Government lawyers JOB is legal warfare on a grand scale, and prettttty sure they won't go bankrupt.

Oh, and this part, where the Judge hits Trump where it really hurts: His ego.

Quote:

Hot damn. The day's hearing was coming to a close. Trump just got dressed down.

"Contempt hearing Tuesday," Merchan said.

Trump stood, thinking it was over.

Merchan, in a firm voice: "Sir, can you please have a seat."

He waved his hand down... like a dad talking to his son.

Trump stayed fuming in his seat until the judge left the courtroom, then he got up and made straight for the wooden double doors in the back.

He was furious. And he clicked his tongue as he walked.

What Foz said. He was reading to Trump the things they want to ask him if he decides to testify, the Clinton lawsuit, his other lawsuits and those he has already had and lost, including one by this judge I think.

And to no one's surprise, trump's lawyers have already asked an appellate court to halt the trial citing an unfair selection of biased jurors. If you read what i posted, I think the NY judicial system is well aware of his tactics, and hopefully deny it quickly,

He's going to have to be watched very closely. both by other prisoners who try to kill him and he finally loses his freedom and self-importance. He's going to need a lot of mental care to keep him from snapping.

Follow up question: If you were one of the lucky few being interviewed by both counsils as to whether you could be on the jury, and Trump was sitting there and you were asked, "What do you think of Trump?"...

What. would. you. say?

got an hour?

Thomkal 04-21-2024 10:50 AM

I grew up 90 minutes from the City and NY news stations were almost all we had available then, so the Trump name has been pretty common to see. So there is no way i could ever be fair and unbiased to Donald Trump-Justice is finally coming for you Donald, and I can't wait to see it.

albionmoonlight 04-21-2024 11:28 AM

I'd be honest. I think Trump is one of the most corrupt humans on Earth. He has no moral compass. He's not evil because evil implies the capacity and desire to know right from wrong. He's an amoral narcissist who just farts his way from one day to another. In any given room, he's likely the stupidest and least insightful person there.

But I'm also a defense lawyer, so I'd actually be super serious about the government having to prove this crime beyond a reasonable doubt.

Pretty sure I'd be struck from the jury by both sides :-)

SirFozzie 04-21-2024 11:41 AM

reminds me of my experience with jury duty. I got called up for a drunk driving trial.

Now, many of you know a couple decades ago, the car I was in was hit by a drunk driver coming home from Thanksgiving dinner. I felt like I could be impartial (after all, the law is the law, and it's fairly well set out that DUI consists of alcohol level as well as driving mannerism), but the judge thought it would be unfair to ask of me to try to be impartial, considering my history.

which, with the passing of years, I do understand. It does give me a kind of PTSD when driving or riding in a car, and another car passes going the other way.

Anyone who would want to be on such a jury isn't impartial enough to be on a jury, and I'd hope that they provide jurors with protection during and after the trial (you know if Trump gets convicted, there's going to be several SWATting attempts, etcetera)

Basically the $175 million has to stay as cash and can't be moved into investments or anything else that poses risk. They have to submit a statement monthly showing it's still cash. Any changes have to be approved by the court.

Also Trump called for massive protests in ny and every state capital today-not sure how the turnout was at the capitals, but in nyc they had about 6.
