I think this show is universal. It's a show, in my opinion, that would stand the test of time as long as it's out there. |
Just an FYI, for those of you that use Firefox, Linkification is wonderful for boards that people are told to use hxxp for possible bad sites.

I agree to an extent, from boomer through Gen Y, but I would be curious as to the opinions of this show from those under 20. |

It looks like you're right. (Safe for Work) |
Seeing the episodes list, I still love "On the Spot" (Our Towne play), "Goodbye" (the one with the Math teacher) and everything from Season 4.
|
Madeline and it's not even close.
You forgot to put Detweiler's daughter in, though I think she only appeared in one episode at the company picnic. Now that said, you can make a case for Winnie. Attractive in an unusual way, first love, first kiss and all that.. and absolutely smizzokin' in a red Christmas fairy outfit (the snow-globe thing after Paul said, "Why get her more of what she already has?" Haha I love that episode even more after working at VS) I soooo empathize with the stress out sitting by the phone wrestling with whether or not to call Lisa Berlini. She was hot, but not much personality to her from what I can remember. Man, Wayne was a dick. Teri's an interesting case. There's just something enchanting about those summertime romances, especially when you throw in the whole water equation. In fact, I'd argue in some ways that Kevin had an even greater connection with her than he did Winnie... and there's just something about that eyes. Becky Slater I had a love/hate relationship with her. There were times I could actually get to like her, but then I'd want to punch the hell out of her because she was such a -bitch-. Don't remember Cara at all. Good joke option: Marquet Farquar. Mother of six. Friend to bats. "SECRET FRIENDS?!" ...Yeah, I've memorized way too much of the series, but it's my favorite of all time. :) |
dola,
You make this poll and don't include Miss White? Sure, nothing happened between them, but still. :D |
That butter line was gold.
|
Hands down, Winnie Cooper. Never forget your first love.
|
All right, Izulde. I admit, you are cool.

Thanks. :D |
I remember the crush he had on Ms./Mrs. White.

Hey, I liked Farquhar. Aggressive nerd-dom is a plus. She was going to grow into her beauty. That said... definitely Madeline. |

Madeline is gorgeous!! |
I didnt want to admit this but...I do have every episode on DVD. I bought it for $30 for the entire series. I knew it wasn't exactly legit so sue me. I get my Madeline fix!
|
I still have about 3 VHS tapes of Wonder Years episodes, taped from the original broadcasts.
|
This shouldn't even be up for debate. It's Winnie Cooper.
|
I've noticed though that the bootlong series DVDs seem to be edited.
Like, they cut stuff out of episodes, though I think it may have been the Canadian broadcast they did that? I remember distinctly the one episode where Kirk and Winnie are fighting and it's choir practice and Winnie gives "This was no I'm glad we're still friends look. This was Tony, Tony take me I'm yours!" look and Kevin thinks it's him until Paul taps him on the shoulder and points to the door where Kirk's holding the sign that says "I'm sorry Winnie." There was some dialogue that got cut in that scene in the bootleg series DVDs I got cut (I didn't know it was illegal when I got it off ebay). "Geez! What's wrong with you kids? You forget how to sing since yesterday?! All right, let's try something a little easier. Page 53. West Side Story." |

Same here. I'm tempted to go find where I put them, make popcorn and watch a few episodes now, though I think most of the stuff I taped was from the earlier seasons. |
Absolutely Winnie. I was totally in love with that girl...
|
I guess Fred Savage is starting in a new series this fall on CBS.
|
You could always get the show through other DVD means...

I've got almost every episode on our laptop -- been meaning to figure out how to copy them to DVD. We also have a lot of episodes clogging up our DVR. If anyone has "ION" it was on there not too long ago.
|
I was thinking that the show hits two distinct groups at the same time: those that were around Kevin's age in the time period of the show (like me - I think there is a picture of me in a Jets jacket or shirt) and those that were around Kevin's age at the time the show aired.

My dad and I always watched the show together. I was the same age as Kevin, and dad grew up in the 60's, so it was one of the only things we both liked. |
Quote:
Yup, the same here. My dad was a little older than Kevin was at the time, but close enough that my dad loved the show... |
Quote:
Absolutely. I was in the 2nd group and I loved Winnie growing up (but thought Madeline was hotter.) |
His sister definitely wins, forget those prepubescent chicks.

But without her in the picture that Cara girl looks like she could be a wild one. Man, did I black out that much that I don't remember half of this show. I could've sworn I watched it alot but I guess I was just in a haze. |
The finale made me almost as sad as when Hawkeye and B.J. try to say goodbye in the final episode of M*A*S*H. :(
I was always one to fall hard when I really liked a girl. I tended to put them on pedestals. Winnie is Kevin's "girl who got away." I had a couple of those, so I can really sympathize with him. You love the girl who you end up with in the end, but you never forget those special girls from along the way. |

Sorry for bringing this up again but I got out my tapes last night and watched a number of episodes, including this one. It really is a testament of how perfectly this show and episode were scripted, acted and of course, narrated. But as many fans noted, it was also the great choice of music throughout. By the end of this particular episode, if you are not already crying, you will be when Linda Ronstadt's (or Karla Bonoff's) Goodbye My Friend starts right at the perfect time. |
Along the lines with Buc's comments...I was watching some Wonder Years this weekend and it was an episode about Buster, the family dog. The last quote of the episode always brings tears to my eyes because I had recently just lost the dog that grew up with me last year and the quote pretty much sums him up.
Every American family has its own unique blend of personalities, my family was no exception. Within our four suburban walls we ranged the full spectrum of types. From the flamboyant, to the demure. From the repellant, to the ideal. Somehow, we managed to fit together in a kind of fragile alliance. One for all, and all for one. With one exception: Buster - the family dog. And over the years, through good times and bad... through seasons of hope and change, he stood by us all. A silent partner. The first one to greet me at the door when I came home from my senior prom. The one who stared out our front window, on the day I left for college. And my mom said he stayed there for hours. |
I entered the thread thinking that it was about Tom Arnold's girlfriends. :D
|
Winnie's a lot hotter as a real life adult. It always baffled me why Kevin spent so much time pining for her when she was a real wet towel.
|
S 02 EP 02 (The Miss White episode) always makes me cringe for some reason and I don't know why, but S 02 EP 03 (Christmas eposide) that follows it is one of my faves. :)
And yes, I've been watching the series from the beginning on youtube. :D DaWonderBoy1988 has a good number of episodes. I've been watching from the pilot up until this point and so far they seem to be the uncut ones. |
Argh, nope, it's edited. The choir teacher's snide comments were cut from S 02 EP 04 :(
|
dola,
It also cut out the cafeteria scene where Kirk acts like a monkey with the orange and Kevin saying something about being between the girl he loves and the girl he's going steady with. Can't remember the exact line, but can picture the scene. I want my uncut Wonder Years episodes back, damn it! |

I'm pretty sure that I masturbated with Miss White in mind as a kid..... |

Teri's real name is Nicolette Foster...who's porn name is Holly Sampson...and is one of the chicks Tiger banged. |
Quote:
So, that means two degrees of separation between Fred Savage and Tiger Woods then (especially if there's a tape somewhere)? |
I love how this thread come back to Tiger.
I was hoping it would about DVDs being released or the show being aired on re-runs. :( |
Just to note, I see that "Winnie" is suppose to guest star on the Big Bang Theory next month.

This. Damn that girl was/is hot. |
I'm even stronger of the opinion that Teri was the ideal girl for Kevin as I'm reviewing old episodes. I think Madeline was way too far out of his league, and he subconsciously recognized that so he very stupidly rejected her. Winnie ran way too damn hot and cold.
I need to put my ranking list together at some point. One site I ran across listed Linda Sloane as #1, and while I see the argument, I'm like no fucking way. She was so deep in the friends zone, she was never getting out. |
