Well, we had some nice poems in the WW Survivor game.

Nice job, PurdueBrad, ya missed me last night but got to finish the job tonight. Something just seems balanced and right about the way that went down.

Hehe, I'm here just because I'm still bored (no grading, no planning for two months and I need a hobby other than softball!). But yeah, and I'm irritated, had I made one slightly different choice, this would be a different situation so I'm a bit irritated...with myself.

hoopsguy 09-11-2007 10:44 PM

Purdue, would love to hear about it in the post-game.

ArlingtonColt 09-14-2007 12:16 PM

It was a pretty fun first run, too bad internet issues and my lack of respect for taking notes hindered my game a little bit! Looking forward to the next one.

RendeR 10-02-2007 01:57 PM

hoopsguy 10-02-2007 01:59 PM

The Witness role is seriously broken in these games. Seriously, it gives the villagers a free wolf. At least with the other roles they have to match wits with the wolves.

I would seriously hope that moderators looking to use this role will come up with some way of mitigating this - perhaps allowing them to submit a list of three names the first night, two names the second night, and a single name the third night to watch. If the wolves aren't going after those targets, then the witness is out of luck.

I actually dislike this rule more than conversions. I just hate being converted, but don't think that the mechanic is fatally flawed in most games.

RendeR 10-02-2007 02:03 PM

So...what? the witness just has a flat chance to catch you in the act every night?

PurdueBrad 10-02-2007 02:17 PM

I wondered how the witness worked as well, off to read Neon's rules about it.

It will need some tweaking. The witness is able to view a night kill, and receive the name of the wolf doing the night killing.

EagleFan 10-02-2007 09:49 PM

Damn, only made it to day 2. Thought I was good for a while.

Sorry about the kill Pass but it was a coin flip between you or AC being the duke and I saw you were hanging around so I went that direction. Figured it best to take a vet out.

Would have liked it more if I choose right on the 50/50 toss up and went with the duke to take with me, it would have seemed fitting.

Wow, I suck at 50/50 choices...

cronin or oliegirl for the lynch and I choose wrong
AC or Pass for the kill and I choose wrong

hoopsguy 10-02-2007 10:15 PM

Sigh - if Arlington chooses wrong then I'm a legend for getting the duke to burn his power. But since he chose wrong I'm an afterthought and EagleFan is posting in this thread :)

Interesting combination -- I don't think I'd ever thought about what happens if the brutal wolf is duked. If EF weren't around that night, this game would have been in some trouble.

This is why, when I run a game, I always insist that players submit actions for possible events, even when the event seems implausible.

Naw, I actually was about as talkative as I am most day 1's, which is not much at all. Everything was fine before I got busy, and when I checked back in I had a bunch of votes......surprise!

Schmidty 10-26-2007 07:04 PM

I am still bitter about that horribly over-powered game mechanic.

RendeR 10-26-2007 09:29 PM

What was the mechanic? I saw some references to an "awesome mechanic" in the game, but since I haven't really been paying attention, I couldn't figure out what it was.

And yes, Day 3 is not early.

Chief Rum 10-27-2007 12:36 AM

Pass, someone had the ability to force an immediate deadline (or at least an early one). Someone forced "sunset" on Day Three 40 minutes early, so not everyone got votes in or night actions (aside from the person choosing to end the day at whatever vote he/she wanted). Also, anyone who didn't vote loses all but their vote AP the next day, so it screwed late voters over for two days. Pretty powerful ability.

Passacaglia 10-27-2007 07:57 AM

That is cool. Not sure I like combining it with the penalty for missing votes, but it's still cool.

RendeR 10-28-2007 05:38 PM

That ws just it though. I KNEW who they were BEFORE I was killed =)

Ask Telle. I had them all pegged except for Ardent, I wasn't sure between he and PurdueBrad for that last titan, I was working to move everyone to them SO badly and they realized I was on to them and axed my ass =)

You're a real optimist considering that it has pages and pages to go before it even catches up to the largest WW thread.

Passacaglia 11-14-2007 10:05 AM

st.cronin 11-14-2007 10:38 AM

Its an application of Leibniz's postulate actually: In any supposed transition, ending in any terminus, it is permissible to institute a general reasoning, in which the final terminus may also be included.

That is to say, eventually this thread will be the longest thread ever.

hoopsguy 11-14-2007 01:15 PM

I'm counting on people's inherent need to complain about the unfairness of dying early - which, we have seen, it pretty powerful. Every game seems to generate 5-15 new responses in this thread.

Sure, we'll need a couple of hundred more werewolf games to get us there, but as long as there is not a sequel to Maximum Football (discussed in the same thread, no less) I feel like this thread is a sleeping giant.

Passacaglia 11-15-2007 06:54 AM

So, in all that hubbub trying to defend myself, I forgot to scan anyone. I didn't realize it until I was at my soccer game, and by then it was too late. I figured it didn't matter much since the wolves were going to kill me anyway, but it would have been funny if they didn't kill me for some reason, and I had to tell everyone that I forgot to scan the next day!

That actually happened to me on day 1.. I totally forgot I was changed to the bodyguard and had to take off quickly and completely forgot to submit a PM on who to guard. Of course I came home from Connecticut early to the blindside from PurdueBrad and the rest is history (and it didn't matter that I was able to later get a PM in to guard someone)

I dunno where I should post this but I want to say somethng.

in all the games I've played I've lost my cool 3 times, and yes when I get pissed of I realy go off on people. Sometimes not with real validation, sometimes with plenty (BK) Now, I just want to state for the record, that if you read my game threads and compare the times I get really angry to the rest you'll see one very ovious pattern. I'm being baselesly accused and have been on the villagers side all 3 times.

Honestly guys, I don't get insulting and rude to be fun or just to be an asshole. I don't truly go off unless I'm being rebutted by personal opinion with no real validation whatsoever.

That's cool and all, but there's tons of baseless accusations in werewolf, and you just have to get used to it. Wolves don't genereally show their hands, so the village is given very little to go on. It seems like you admit that all anyone else is doing is playing the game, and that you're responding by losing your cool. Try to think back to the times that you've thrown out baseless accusations.

That is part of WW though. It is not a clear cut game where you can color everything black and white... No matter how much you know about a particular game, you can't ever for sure say anything at all is ever fact no matter the role or situation... I have had someone go off at me because they thought I had a personal vendetta against them before, simply because their playstyle always seemed to trigger my wolf-alarm and I ended up voting for them alot due to it. Most of the time, I would wager to say nothing in WW is personal and most people do a fine job seperating game from game.

I would just shrug it off and instead of getting worked up over something like that, try to look at it from a different direction and see how you can use it to your benefit.

That is just my two cents from someone uninvolved and having no idea who is what role in your current game.

RendeR 11-29-2007 11:01 AM

I understand there are tons of things like this that happen, its the fact that some people refuse to admit that its JUST their personal choice, instead they word it so it looks like the only plausible answer. Which is just as bad a lying to people.

This gets compounded when the people doing it are long time players who people will generally take VERY seriously when they say something. Thats not the persons fault realy, but it just makes being the target of the situation that much more frustrating.

hoopsguy 11-29-2007 11:27 AM

Keep this thread going, all! I've been very disappointed by the lack of posts in the first couple of days in the current game - how is this supposed to catch Maximum Football when people accept their deaths quietly and with dignity?

Barkeep49 11-29-2007 11:29 AM

Render I posted my longer response in the thread in my role as GM. As a player, I will just point out that I try to be very careful about posting my certainty. For instnace, in this game I repeatedly said I was willing to take a 50/50 chance. I wasn't certain, merely willing to entertain the risk. I will redouble my efforts, when accusing someone to post the reasons and certainty of why I feel the way I do so it doesn't come off as more certain than I actually believe.

This gets compounded when the people doing it are long time players who people will generally take VERY seriously when they say something. Thats not the persons fault realy, but it just makes being the target of the situation that much more frustrating.

Something to keep in mind is that when you can be predicted to reliably act in a certain way, the bad guys can use that against you. For instance, a wolf will realize that he can get under your skin with some baseless accusations and that your response may help to get you killed off.
