I didn't even think that was possible. This is the equivalent of breaking the speed of light...speed limit.

That was the first modern concert I ever attended, when I was in fifth grade.

Yes, both of them.

You see in the first picture why they donīt fall over, the "wall" of the pool is only just under water and it being at the very side the stream isnīt very strong.

Planning to go there (not nescessarily the pool ;) ) in 2 years, hope to do a 2-3 months african journey after my current contract is up ...

That's pretty cool- that is something I need to do in my lifetime.

Interesting. I guess I had figured it would be very unusual for a wall of rock to remain in front of the edge of a waterfall, but depending on how that rock was carved out (I'm imagining some kind of swirling action bore out those pools) there may be an inner edge to that rock that is protecting the outer edge right at the waterfall brink.

I might swim in that pool, but I really doubt I'd have the stones to stand up on the edge like I saw in one of those photos.

A famous feature is a naturally formed pool known as the Devil's Pool, near the edge of the falls, accessed via Livingstone Island in Zambia. When the river flow is at a safe level, usually during the months of September and December, people can swim as close as possible to the edge of the falls within the pool without continuing over the edge and falling into the gorge; this is possible due to a natural rock wall just below the water and at the very edge of the falls that stops their progress despite the current.[15][16] Even so, an average of one person per year dies while swimming in Devil's Pool.[17]

I didn't realize how big of a structure that was until I saw the construction equipment below and the people on the road in the upper left corner. Wow, that is bad.

Oh wow, this is like some sort of optical illusion. When I first saw it, I thought it was just one of those median dividers that was cut in half.

Oh yes, I can see that. I thought it was more like a spill pond and the wall was maybe 20 feet tall.

Monkees 20th Anniversary tour in 1986 was my first show. "Modern" for me, in this case, meant "current". The Monkees weren't exactly that. ; )

Were Gary Pucket & The Union Gap, and The Grass Roots involved? 'Cuz I totally saw that tour....immediately after a minor league baseball game.

Passacaglia 10-07-2010 04:57 PM

I bet Paul Revere and the Raiders were there, to complain about their cover of "Kicks"

1) No, it was Herman's Hermits and someone else.

2) This tied into the popularity of their show, which started running again on MTV in the mid-80s.

3) I was six years old. I thought they were funny.

4) Mike Nesmith wasn't there. I was devastated, as he was my favorite Monkee.

thesloppy 10-07-2010 05:13 PM

Oh yeah, that was the same tour. Man that was a hott show.

Yeah, I'm much more of a pork rib guy, but that thing was awesome looking. So much so that the local newspapers food blog featured my food blog today.
