Yea, random.org picked Brit for the night 2 kill I think. It was on fire this game.

Abe Sargent 12-20-2012 10:23 PM

I kinda like the idea of making more rules random. Random tie rule out of four choices before the game begins, random for each role, etc. You know, push it to the next level!

we were running out of people to kill really.

My thought after JAG's sacrifice was "I sure hope his feeling about CF is right," because the worst thing that could happen there was what in fact was the case. That's what I get for trusting JAG...

I just didn't want to put it out there for sure in case there was something you knew that I didn't. ;)

Yeah - I had a busy day so I couldn't really reflect on it until I did, and then I had to think it through and game it out and make sure of things, and then get the other two to come along. :)

Here's the PM I sent to Autumn Night 1.

CF missed out on half the convo.

I did that for jungle book. 4 different outcomes, two of which were randomly picking people.

Yes, having a villager fake reveal as bodyguard is not something I expected to happen. LoL

Very cool how active they were and how much discussion went into things.

Thanks. I enjoyed it as well. Being a wolf is more fun and I think I am better at it.

Yes htat was quite an amusing night to watch play out. I was feeling bad for the wolves who were about to get outed, and then boom.

DaddyTorgo 12-20-2012 10:29 PM

Yeah - we could have lost 2/3 of the wolves there on the first day. Jeebus.

GoldenEagle 12-20-2012 10:30 PM

Did JAG send you a PM explaining his play? It is amazing how this game was almost flipped on its head. A matter of minutes plus players showing up on day 1.

There is a much more complex, and random, version of this game I am thinking of running in the future. Basically everyone has not a role but a set of probablities for what role they have, that eventually collapse into reality. Everyone will hate it.

britrock88 12-20-2012 10:32 PM

I will love it.

britrock88 12-20-2012 10:33 PM

BTW, Autumn, if I have one critique for you, it's that the balance of power just seemed to be tipped very far in the wolves' direction (at 3-9-1). Being the BG, I was hoping and praying we were in Game 1 until Sui turned up as the hunter.

I have a name for that game idea. :)

I think it wouldn't have seemed like that nearly as much with a seer in the game, but I agree. These sets weren't all balanced. The uncertainty of what set is in play is what is meant to balance it out somewhat. Nobody knows if there's a seer, for instance, or the wolves can't know if there's a cultist or not, they don't know if they need to deal with a Hunter or not. So once it became clear what game it was, it did tip in the wolves favor definitely.

CrimsonFox 12-20-2012 10:35 PM

and really my whole point today about calling mau a liar was to convince brit that he was indeed lying as at that point I really did think he wasn't the BG and the fact he falserevealed a lot helped. Didn't expect him to blow up so much. especially when he himself has kinda been in people's faces a little this game. Heck I caught all kinds of crap this game. *shruig* it's all game.

I dunno - we were almost down to 1-9-1 after night 1, if we hadn't had 1 late vote and a lucky nightkill.

Calling someone a liar is always fine in Werewolf. It's the wording you used that was an issue.

CrimsonFox 12-20-2012 10:37 PM

and when we hit both tough hunter AND the wolf cub day 2. That was a bad day

Autumn 12-20-2012 10:38 PM

Yeah, Version 4 was the kind of "this could go any which way, and will" game.

Autumn 12-20-2012 10:39 PM

See again, things didn't work out this way -- if you had hit the Hunter before the wolf cub was gone, that would have left things still very unclear. People would be worrying about conversion, but also unsure if there was even a Hunter in the game, or a bodyguard.

Autumn 12-20-2012 10:40 PM

Basically I'm saying you guys suck for catching all the roles early.

Abe Sargent 12-20-2012 10:40 PM

Oh, and after learning I was teh Cultist, i pm'd Autumn and inquired if it was a joke, to which he basically responded, Life may be a joke, this is not. I laughed out loud for twenty seconds.

Autumn 12-20-2012 10:40 PM

What would have made it interesting was if on death you only found out if they were good or bad, not what role they were.

I haven't found anything really in that sense, partly because there are so many variations on how people play.

I do refer to some of hte basic rulesets used a lot on Boardgame Geek. They have a simple 9 player, a "perfect" 11 player, etc. So you can get a sense from there. But like us they like to experiment, so not everything is balanced.

I think you can get solid advice if you use very few roles, but once you start adding them, it gets dicey.

Someone actually did a statistical paper on Werewolf balance I found. Without any roles, basically, they found that the number of wolves should equal the square root of the number of players approximately. But once you add even one role to that, the numbers get much trickier they found.

Autumn 12-20-2012 10:45 PM

I loved that even though the game was essentially resolved today, nobody really knew who the bodyguard was.

Autumn 12-20-2012 10:46 PM

And at times the wolves were unsure about the cultist. They had been sure it was Abe, and then things got all crazy and they weren't sure any longer. Ithink the villagers should have tried to reveal as cultist before Abe did. That would have made things difficult.

CrimsonFox 12-20-2012 10:46 PM

I usually just bounce my ruleset off people that I find out aren't playing that have run a lot of games (like abe, hoops, etc). I totally recommend getting feedback on rulesets

i was totally sure it was abe by day 3. was too obvious. Everything else was just villagers eating villagers.

mauchow 12-20-2012 10:48 PM

why does abe keep sayin he loves me?

CrimsonFox 12-20-2012 10:48 PM

Freakin' A. I start off the game and DT 'pings' me and he's all like "that happened last game, too.."

lol

CrimsonFox 12-20-2012 10:49 PM

I'm never saying another thing toward you as a wolf mau. You always read me :P. you have autumn's number too.

I don't love you, CF. AT least not for about 2 more minutes.

I thought you needed a lil love after some of teh heat that came at ya

mauchow 12-20-2012 10:55 PM

I was so proud of my plan this morning to reveal as the BG in an attempt to lure out the Cultist to fake reveal as well.

I knew it was the only way we'd have a chance with it looking like that I was going to get slammed in a 7-1 vote (which I did anyway but only because it was a joke to do so). After realizing that we had no chance around mid-day it was all downhill from there. But the plan semi-worked with Abe flat out coming out that he was the cultist. Which, of course, the game was pretty much over.

It was a funny evening though, despite my rantings..
