don't mind me. i'm just being a bitch cuz people are being haters towards my picks. and i had this working up in a nice crescendo towards the finish, but now i just don't give two sh*ts.

lordscarlet 02-26-2008 02:09 PM

They woudl be better without all the smack talk.

Warhammer 02-26-2008 02:14 PM

Dang it, I don't know which one to go with next...

Izulde 02-26-2008 02:16 PM

You have to wait for NoMyths anyway, Warhammer ;)

wade moore 02-26-2008 02:19 PM

These are awesome.

We simply must do them more often - I think we readdress LS's idea of passing the baton to the winner after this is over.

sabotai 02-26-2008 02:22 PM

The Wizard of Oz was my top Children's choice. Great pick by larry on that one. Really liked the Kama Sutra pick as well. Really liked NoMyth's pick for Autobiography. Like others have said, Ender's Game would have worked batter in Fantasy/Sci-Fi. As a series, it doesn't hold up as well.

Izulde 02-26-2008 02:27 PM

I'm going to be sweating it out through these next few picks. My top two choices are still on the board and I hope they stay that way, but I've got a bad feeling they'll come off.

wahhhhhh. People don't like my picks. Wahhhhhh. ;) :p

I remember in the music one I got killed way worse then anyone has been killed in this one for picking Foxy Lady instead of Purple Haze.

Thats the nature and fun of these, people are gonna be critical of your picks if they don't like them. I think thats what makes them fun for everyone. As a participant I think half the fun is defending your picks.

Lathum 02-26-2008 02:38 PM

dola- has there been a movie draft. I would love to run that.

Lathum 02-26-2008 02:38 PM

double dola- DT knows I am just needling him because I can. I hope he knows that.

oh it is. i'm just in a whiney mood. i'll have a nice summation/defense of my picks at the end of the draft.

You picked Foxy Lady over Purple Haze? Good lord man.

:D

Vince 02-26-2008 02:45 PM

DT, I actually really like all your picks...just not where you picked them. I think there were too many "heavy hitters" out there that you skipped on to get the Foundation Series and Einstein's Autobiography early on. The Einstein one would probably have been available many rounds later, at least. Foundation Series is a little like Ichiro; he's going to get you runs, steals and average...but you aren't going to be able to draft him unless you draft him earlier than he's worth.

larrymcg421 02-26-2008 02:45 PM

I was thinking of a Historical Nation draft. For example...

Leader (Chief Executive):
Army Chief
Navy Chief:
Air Chief:
Chief Economist:
Chief Diplomat:

and so on...

but isn't the end-result all that matters. my theory was "i feel there's less depth in great series than there are in fiction books so i'm going to draft series first" regardless of the "cache" of the work within it.

which is why i've left the things that play more to my strengths for later in the draft

Warhammer 02-26-2008 02:51 PM

A straight historical people draft would be great.

lordscarlet 02-26-2008 02:52 PM

The possibilities are endless... And I want to participate in them all. :)

lordscarlet 02-26-2008 02:53 PM

When we finish tomorrow (Because you all rock and are likely going to finish this thing in 5 days) we can start a new one. ;)

I spent much of work today thinking of how I would run a general History draft. I also had another idea for a draft that would probably just end in chaos. So I might do that one. :D

yeah, it launched about a 4 page assault on me.

Lathum 02-26-2008 02:59 PM

If ya'll wanna keep it going I can certainly set another draft up over the weekend to start next week.

History's been done. :) (Although there are many other ways to do it than what was done)

Lathum 02-26-2008 03:02 PM

I just did a quick search and didn't see a movie one.

DaddyTorgo 02-26-2008 03:05 PM

my bad. i thought movies was done, but guess i was wrong.

I know Historic dates was done, but that's a pretty specific/narrow subject. I don't know if another historic draft was done. (I used the word "general" for a reason. ;) )

It is, but this is the reason that you're getting shelled right now. All they have to look at is what you have, and you don't have a complete team right now.

Some people also think that Foundation is a worse choice than Potter for series...regardless of whether or not they are correct, I can't be the only person who has wondered if Asimov wasn't a better pick as a Sci-Fi category.

Wow, this would be freaking amazing. I wonder if anyone would have the cojones to draft Hitler, and if so how people would respond. He was nothing if not an incredibly charismatic figure, twisted and sick as he was.

I drafted Jesus Christ in the 'Criminals' draft, so I'm sure someone would pick him. :D

I can't help but think that there is some better series out there that hasn't been selected. I couldn't necessarily tell you what it is, but we are heavily dominated by Fantasy and Science Fiction thus far.

NoMyths 02-26-2008 03:20 PM

Finishing up my last day at work right now, so won't be able to pick until I get home -- I should have a pick posted by 6 pm.

Maple Leafs 02-26-2008 03:21 PM

These things are lots of fun. Just two words of advice for anyone planning to run one:

- They take a lot of time to run

- Put a ton of thouht into the categories. If you don't strike the right balance you can wind up with a real letdown

ntndeacon 02-26-2008 03:29 PM

I was involved with the movie one so I know it was done. it was a couple of years ago though.

And half the fun of being the peanut gallery is criticizing the picks. Isn't that the whole point of the "outsiders"? To think they would do it perfect and you all are morons? ;)

Radii 02-26-2008 03:34 PM

Cartman's last two picks have definitely lived up to the hype, nice job.

Well there is little thinking we could, more like knowing we could. :D (This coming from someone who though in most of these never seems to win. They just couldn't see my brilliance!)

Exactly!

sabotai 02-26-2008 03:41 PM

I've been trying to find some of the old drafts, and I can't find some of them. I can't find the movie draft or the FOFC member draft (both were in 2004 I think). I think those threads must have gotten deleted.

Winner. End of game. (OK, not actually, but hella good pick).

But also, I'm pissed because I was going to do an All Undrafted Team and you just stole the sports book I didn't think anyone would pick. I also lost my sci-fi pick with Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? You jerks are good.

cartman 02-26-2008 03:43 PM

Man I am chompin' at the bit to get my last three picks in. :D

you aren't alone. I am still planning to . Though I was hoping to get Casey at the Bat.

Nothing has been deleted since the last board move unless the creator of the thread deleted it. I'll see if I can dig anything up.

ntndeacon 02-26-2008 03:47 PM

There was also a baseball blind auction that was pretty fun

Calis 02-26-2008 03:49 PM

Btw, Romance of the Three Kingdoms is the book I was alluding to early, which I'm sure was obvious enough in itself.

I think it's a great pick, one of the greatest pieces of literature in the history of the world, one of the most widely read and the cultural influences in the East are immeasurable.

That said, I didn't think it would go over that hot over here..it's just not that popular, which is a shame. So maybe a bad pick in a popularity contest catering to the voters here.

Great pick imo though, and a steal this late.

sabotai 02-26-2008 03:49 PM

I did a search for all threads with the word "draft" in the title, so maybe they used a different word?

I found the FOFC Member Draft, but that was through a link in a different thread, it didn't come up in my search results (even though it should have).

MrDNA 02-26-2008 03:53 PM

Oh, I've still got my plans for an Undrafted team and I've even replaced my sports book. Now, if I lose that one, I'm taking my ball and going home.

Hm. I should start putting a list together, I think this is coming to a close pretty soon and I don't have a whole lot of time to work on one.

sabotai 02-26-2008 04:05 PM

Found the movie draft, and it was Actors/Actresses/Directors.
