Not this leftist.

Edward64 01-30-2018 08:48 PM

Watched it for 30 min and now surfing.

Typical State of the Union speech (so far at least) which is a good thing.

I do think Trump is "acting more Presidential". Its relative of course, but certainly better than before ... possibly the John Kelly connection?

jeff061 01-30-2018 09:26 PM

Every time he gives a speech like this he comes across more presidential and carries a message of healing and coming together.

Then 6 hours and a dozen tweets later he contradicts every single thing he said.

EagleFan 01-30-2018 09:30 PM

It's because it is scripted and he sticks to the script. It's once he has to try to be himself when things go horribly wrong.

PilotMan 01-30-2018 10:43 PM

I am not sure whey the SotU is a super big deal. I mean, after having watched so many of these it's so scripted, so canned, so meaty for whichever side is in control of the exec. You know he didn't write a lick of that speech, so what difference does it really make?

Pretty much sums it up for me as well. It's just a politician blowing hot air. I didn't watch Bush. I didn't watch Obama. And I sure as hell won't watch Trump.

On that note, am I correct in assuming that some percentage of the country will see an increase in take-home pay at some point in 2018? Assuming also that Republicans have calibrated the bill to make that percentage to be high enough, wouldn't it then play a significant role in the midterms? ("My Party voted to give you that extra money in your paycheck every month; the other guy's Party voted to keep your money.") Isn't that all that really matters politically here? Yes, I get that long-term ramifications matter in many other ways, but to the average dolt voting...

Was 53 bucks for me.

bob 01-31-2018 08:22 AM

I also had a fairly large change in my check, but since we haven't adjusted W4s I don't view this money as mine. With the other changes to state tax deductions and exemptions, I believe my taxes will actually go up this year, so I will be sitting this money aside and ensuring that they actually deduct more going forward to be sure I don't pay any penalties.

Same here. About a $62 more.

Marc Vaughan 01-31-2018 09:50 AM

It'll be interesting to see if these adjustments are accurate as presently as far as I've heard no one quite knows and it might be that they're withholding too much or too little which will affect pay next year ...

Coffee Warlord 01-31-2018 09:51 AM

miked 01-31-2018 10:42 AM

I think I'm doing something wrong here. My Federal withholding went down, but my SS taxes were way up, like more than double what my October withholding was. Guess I need to contact HR folks...

There was definitely something off in regards to this on my check. In Arizona you set your state withholding to be a percentage of your federal withholding, and despite my federal going down, the state amount stayed the same. Actually not bad for me, since I always get a nice sum back from state and breakeven on federal, but I am still going to check into it as I don't want issues next tax year.

Maybe you maxed out your SS taxes in October so it wasn't a full withholding? I usually max out in May so I get a big jump in take home pay starting in June.

It looks like now one person from the trash truck was dead at the scene, another critically injured. One Rep from Minnesota I think that I have never heard of went to be checked for concussion/neck injury. A staffer too.

Trump golf course in Florida sues over property tax bill

Quote:

President Donald Trump says the Trump National Golf Club in Florida is worth more than $50 million.

Palm Beach County Property Tax Appraiser Dorothy Jacks disagrees, saying the Jupiter course, where Trump plays when he visits nearby Mar-a-Lago, is actually worth much less — $19 million.

But in a twist, Trump's lawyers are now suing Jacks, saying her estimate and the nearly $400,000 property tax bill it generates are too high, even if her appraisal is only 40 percent of what the president listed in his 2017 financial disclosure form.

On first glance mine either remained the same or was slightly higher. I used the tax estimator that Farrah recommended to look at withholding for next year.

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/th...owe-2017-10-26

It estimated a yearly drop after deductions of about $1200 dollars.

That's a savings of 8/10ths of a percent of my estimated 2017 income.

Or the functional equivalent of a $.70/hr raise on our income for a family of 5.

I don't think the issue with the tax cut was that people wouldn't get something back. I think the issue is that it's really going to fuck over your kids.

This is the first casualty.

I mean I live in a state that boomers destroyed. Gave themselves all sorts of goodies. Didn't bother paying into the pensions either. Now they're living the good life or moved down to Florida and the rest of us are stuck footing the bill.

My favorite is when they lecture those millennials about how lazy they are. The generation that has accomplished nothing besides giving themselves free shit at the expense of their children talking about laziness.

There's room in Colorado for the both of us. :)

But yes. We're getting out of this fucked state at just the right time. There's just zero future for this state but more and more debt and unpaid bills.

My brother moved a few years back to Colorado and loves it (Boulder).

I've been looking in Minnesota. My job gives me flexibility and I loved it when I was younger. Blown away by how much more value you can get for homes and how much cheaper property taxes are. I hear they even have a surplus!

I do get the “Don't really care/how weird that people think this is important“ sentiment with these sort of issues, but for the life of me just don't understand how you can protest this. There is literally no way this could impact anybody in a negative way, so why deny people perceiving it as positive change ?

“some things should never change“ is especially idiotic since a) it was only instated ad the NA in 1980 and b) it is not only a translation but in fact the english lyrics have been changed before !
