That pic is from the top of the Aiguille du Midi. You take a cable car from Chamonix to that platform, then there is an elevator that takes you to the top, and that is where I snapped this pic.

Yeah, that is about 9,000 vertical feet above the start of the cable car run from the town of Chamonix at the bottom :)

What's funny to me is how many people are lying down.

You can't tell from the pic, but there were girls sunbathing on the platform. Even though it was about 40 degrees and windy up there.

There are far too many fully clothed individuals sprawled out to lessen the funny, however.

I was just in Banff a few weeks ago and they have something similar except nowhere near as high up...only 2400 feet above the town. The day we went up there were low lying clouds so when we climbed above them it felt much higher than previous trips as I had only been up there on clear days.

There certainly is "something" about the mountains, any mountains, that just leaves me in a state of euphoria every time I'm there...very cool.

Some of the 1,000 or so pics taken during the 5 week "around the USA" driving trip my wife and I took last year.

































After looking through these, I realized that both of my wife and I are in most of the pics. Oh well.
