Watched first couple of episodes of Lilyhammer last night. Pretty funny stuff.

Barkeep49 02-16-2012 03:39 PM

I two have just watched the first couple of episodes and enjoyed it. Gives me some hope for AD.

PilotMan 02-17-2012 09:46 AM

Watched the first episode of "The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret." It's an IFC show, and if the rest hold up as good as the first one does, it will be fantastic.

Bigsmooth 02-19-2012 11:56 PM

Really enjoyed the 1st season of Sons of Anarchy, much to my surprise. One of those shows that's been on my radar for a long time and I just basically ran out of other shit to watch. Glad I finally came around.

Watched the first season of this tonight, absolutely great. David Cross plays Todd Margaret, who through a series of misunderstandings and lies gets hired to go to London to sell energy drinks by the abusive owner of his company who is played by Will Arnet.

Netflix maybe coming to cable.

Netflix, Cable Partnership Could Make Streaming Service Into On-Demand Option

Barkeep49 03-07-2012 06:58 AM

Watched "Please Vote for Me". A 60ish minute documentary about how 3rd or 4th graders (forget which) are allowed to vote for class monitor for the first time. The campaign ends up like many of our campaigns and it's really fascinating. Definitely recommend.

This is one that has been on the back burner for me too. I need to watch it.

Another one that sat in my queue for a long time was Breaking Bad. Just watched the first three seasons and wow, that show is great.

Matthean 03-07-2012 09:41 PM

I saw Lincoln Lawyer is on Instant now.

dave731 03-07-2012 10:31 PM

I have been watching ken burns baseball...it is too relaxing tho. Right to sleep on most nights.

Yea, it's not something I'd watch as I'm going to bed. It's an amazing series, and I've kind of made it tradition to watch it the week before Opening Day. But it will knock you out pretty quick. It's kind of like a book.

Matthean 03-08-2012 10:14 PM

Season 2 of Archer is now on Instant.

rockboy70 03-09-2012 10:04 AM

Chasing Ghosts - about the Twin Galaxy arcade in the 80's - not quite as good as King of Kong, but interesting. Also season 6 of Doctor Who is up.

Matthean 04-01-2012 08:23 PM

The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret

One of the rare times I didn't like something, and I stuck with it just to give it a chance. The last two episodes for season one helped solidify things though.

terpkristin 04-01-2012 08:33 PM

Rango has apparently been added to their streaming lineup, according to a tweet I saw earlier today. Might watch it at some point.

Human Centipede 2 now up.

LOL

Matthean 04-12-2012 11:07 PM

I enjoyed Chasing Ghosts as a nice companion to King of Kong.

Spoiler

I listened to a review/recap by JD on the Howard Stern show and that was quite enough. It was an entertaining listen, a good way to get a sense of the insanity that is Human Centipede 2 without actually having to watch it - I believe it's on youtube if anyone's interested.

Matthean 04-21-2012 11:38 PM

I see the cartoon version of Planet Hulk is on Instant. Just skimming through the TPB was glorious enough. I have to watch this.

That is next up for me. Just finished "Walking Dead" Season 1, then went and found season 2 elsewhere to get caught up on that show.

I mixed up Planet Hulk with World Wide Hulk. Still fun to watch, but I had already seen it.

Hey I was wondering if someone could help me. I have a ROKU2 XS steaming to my Samsung tv. The picture quality is HD and sound is good. But when there's a lot of movement it looks like it blurs. Kinda like it can't keep up.
My speed test is 54 mbit/sec and upload is 9.

I don't get it.
Oh btw it's a wired connection.

stevew 04-22-2012 02:43 PM

how old is the TV? what's the model # of the set?

It's 4 years old and it's a Samsung LN52A650 model.

stevew 04-22-2012 05:00 PM

I'd assume you have the motion plus 120hz setting on...perhaps adjust that setting. That's a really nice model. It may just be the signal quality for certain models.

Yeah I've messed with the motion setting. Watching cable there is no problem at all. I'm guessing it's something to do with this certain tv. Pisses me off. Or maybe it is the signal. But dammit my bandwidth is fine.
Thanks for the reply. :)

SteveMax58 04-22-2012 05:49 PM

Just watched Breathing Room last night. Its one of those movies like Cube, Exam, Nine Dead, etc. where a bunch of people wake up & have no idea where they are or why they are there.

This was definitely the weakest movie of that ilk. I don't recommend it unless you (a) love those types of movies & don't mind B- acting...and (b) enjoy being annoyed by gaping wide plot holes.

When I watched AppleTv streaming content on my sister's fancy LCD TV with 240hz, I couldn't take it. It looked like everything was filmed with a handheld. The picture was just unnatural it the extreme. I have no issues on my plasma. My guess was that it was all of the special processing to create the frames for the additional hz. While it looks like you've already addressed that are there any other settings you have activated like a sports/game mode or "smoothing" that might supplement the motion setting.

CU Tiger 04-24-2012 08:12 PM

having never touched the roku...im betting it hs to do with compression data frag skipping..or possibly if its a very busy segment im not sure of the upconvert ability of the box.

PilotMan 05-02-2012 09:01 AM

Waiting for Superman is well worth the watch. Certainly brings a lot of food for thought to the table.

cody8200 05-02-2012 10:17 AM

I am sure that this isn't a secret but Monk is on Netflix instant and is definitely a fun show. My wife and I watched the whole series (7 seasons or so) over a 3 month period a few years back. We left wanting more.

sabotai 05-30-2012 11:20 PM

A ton of TED Talks on Netflix Streaming = Awesome

Qwikshot 05-31-2012 05:40 AM

"Drive" is on netflix. I enjoyed it though I thought Gosling's character wasn't cool like Steve McQueen, more like detached and robotic. While I assume that he becoming friendly with the single mom and child allowed him to become more human, I just wasn't buying it.

Still for a noir film, it was beautifully shot, and while the outcome was rather linear(by linear I mean straightforward in its story), it was still enjoyable to me. I did enjoy Albert Brooks as the bad guy (shoulda been nominated) though and man is Ron Perlman an UGLY mofo.

Spoiler

Edit: fixed a grammar issue and explained linear a little better.

stevew 05-31-2012 09:35 AM

Drive is really divisive around here. Thanks for the heads up though, I was really wanting to see it again.

Drive is pretty divisive everywhere. People seem to either love it and think it's genius or hate it. It's just one of those films.

For whatever reason, I am in neither camp. I liked it well enough and enjoyed it, but didn't necessarily love it.

Logan 06-04-2012 11:37 AM

I saw mention of "Drive" being up on Netflix and went to check it out. It was a movie that I was really interested in when it first came out, to where I was about to go see it myself on a random day, but something came up last minute.

I was amazed that I couldn't get through it, and I ended up shutting it off about halfway through. Outside of the opening scene, I was ridiculously bored. I think the love interest storyline with the neighbor got introduced way too quickly and that threw it off for me. And I personally like Gosling as an actor, so it's not some sort of vendetta in my case.

Young Drachma 06-23-2012 08:54 PM

Legend of the Seeker. I wasn't especially familiar with the books, but the series was good enough to make me check it out. I've skipped around the first season, but on the whole, I've been enjoying the characters a lot.

PilotMan 07-24-2012 10:27 PM

It's only got 2 days left, and I saw it here because of previous recommendations, but Ip Man was fantastic. Some of the best martial arts action sequences in any movie I've seen.

Bigsmooth 07-25-2012 12:03 AM

Enjoying Louie right now. FX really brings it.

frnk55 07-26-2012 07:01 PM

Someone mentioned Peepshow and I'll second it. Very funny show!

Swaggs 07-26-2012 07:17 PM

I know a few folks have already mentioned it, but Tucker and Dale vs Evil was pretty excellent. :)

I went based off of the recommendation of that show in this thread and after being done with season two I do find it pretty funny.

30 for 30 has been added to streaming.

Even if you're not a sportsfan I cannot highly enough recommend Two Escobars. A fantastic fantastic look into Columbia during the height of the Cartel's power.

Other 30 for 30 favorites of mine:
Best That Never Was
Winning Time

This is FANTASTIC news.

albionmoonlight 08-01-2012 01:56 PM

30 for 30 showed me how much the talent of a documentary maker matters. I always thought that the subject matter had more to do with it. I was wrong.

You recommend Winning Time. And you are right. That is a GREAT documentary. And the subject seemed so stupid: those few years when Reggie Miller and the Pacers met the Knicks in the Eastern Conference playoffs--with neither team winning a title. I mean, who cares, right? But, wow. Just watch it. It is a ton of fun.

On the flip side, the 30 for 30 to which I was most looking forward was the one on the birth of Fantasy Baseball. I mean, how could that not be an amazing documentary? Well, watch it. It wasn't.

Cool that they are on Netflix now so I can see some that fell through the cracks.

Scoobz0202 08-01-2012 05:37 PM

The 30 for 30s rock. Happy to see them. My recommendation is Run Ricky Run which is. A piece on Ricky Williams and mostly centers on his stepping away from the game.
