Tick Tock
What is the time? It time to get maximum football Maximum Football silly ok bye |
Come on, thread. I need to get through 11 more hours.
|
Make that 10. I must have fallen asleep for an hour.
|
thread make casey shit in pants
|
Boy, Dutch, it ain't looking so good for 14...
|
Here is what a beta tester says about the game:
http://www.blindsideblitz.com/forums...ad.php?t=14358 Actually I was surprised that a number of people didn't ask too much about the game. I am really stunned at how many people are still playing Football Pro 98. I mean I have fond memories of the game and all, but geez, I would hope that they would have far more expectations for an indie game with the tools available for them today. |
Sweet. Another hour down. Now if I could just figure out this new Microsoft Outlook 2003 that the Navy just swapped in for my trusty Outlook 2000.
Haters. |
5 more hours. Come on, I can do it. I hate this duty/shift. Fortunately I have my friend named Monster Energy drink.

This thread makes me point out something else that I've been meaning to point out... How the crap did they choose such useless beta testers?! I mean.. this guy seems to ahve just goofed off with the game here and there, not actually BETA tested it... |
Quote:
My thoughts exactly. Almost like he starts to have an idea of what he wants to say, but then once you finish reading you realize he didn't really say anything. I think we found the new white house spokesman. |
Quote:
In this thread, they all don't look so good. But somehow.....*it* survives. |
God, the beta testers thread is just bizzare. Some highlights:
Well the people that were starting it (testers) to make a multi player test league all quit around the time to kick off. It takes a special breed to run a league. Always good when everyone quits and you are left with one guy to test multiplayer. I will also not be reviewing the game, because I know the game and want it to do well, I feel I would not give an unbiased review. Ummm, you're kidding, right? What a ringing endorsement. I know I'm excited about purchasing this game now. |
I really wonder how many copies of this game they are going to sell.
|
Quote:
|
My understanding is the game is only available online via either download or snail mail, so I don't see a lot of people buying it without at least a small amount of online research. There seems to be a few fans who have been following the game for the last decade or so, but outside of that sales will probably depend on word of mouth and reviews on internet sites. If the game is actually solid and plays well, I think it will sell ok...if it sucks, I'm guessing less than 2000 copies.
|

Is this thread a case of Any publicity is good publicity? You know, the old "The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about." I mean, I understand the game will speak for itself, but this thread had garnered a lot of attention for the game it otherwise would not have had. |
I've long ago given up buying new games, including Matrix games, and I'm a Matrix fan. This game seems especially prone to be a game that -- even if it turns out to be a really good game -- is going to have lots of growing problems once released. And I frankly have to wonder about folks who can't have the patience to wait and see what is said about a game and its problems before buying it, people who buy on the first day and then scream bloody murder when the game is not perfect.
As for me, I noticed Fast Break College Basketball on my desktop a couple of weeks ago and opened it up and continued a career I had dropped about a year ago. And I'm having fun with that. It is a nice little game, even if it isn't supported any longer, and even if it is not the best thing out there. |
Quote:
After 7 years the game should be perfect...no?........but i guess Rome was'nt built in a day :) |
That beta tester should've just said "You can ask me questions, but i'm not going to answer in a way which will tell you anything about the actual game."

I think I may have to amend my thinking here. This thread picked up at least a couple of thousand views since I posted this yesterday. That means this thread would catch up to the reference thread in view count in about two weeks. Certainly doable, given what we've seen so far. Shall we go for the record? :) |
I think we'll get it since the game still won't be out.
|
Quote:
I think this thread will break a record if the game has a number of bugs after it's release and it will also be interesting to see how it is handled. |
I missed the whole limerick-off, so I missed the "Pumpy face pack" line. Great stuff. :D
|
Oh shit, we've got a wig sighting!
And I don't think that's someone trolling as him, either... |
Quote:
He is Groundcat? Or am I missing a thread with him logged in as one of the Wigs? |
Well someone here is GroundCat, it sounds a lot like some of our other current trolls, so I doubt a wig.
|
The problem is everyone on that site is a troll or a potential troll.(except for the mods, developers, and significant-others). Even the regular posters can't possilbe be so fucking stupid as to expect a playable game on Monday, I mean Tuesday, I mean next week, etc. so they could be trolling, too. I can't keep track of my trolls without a scorecard. It's like tea-bagging a wolverine.

Ok, I'm late to the game, but here's my impression of the beta tester that people have referenced here:
Q: "How is the X in the game?" A: "The Y is pretty good. Of course, the way I like Y may be different than your Y so please don't ask me this again." Q: "Thanks!!" |
Quote:
I believe he's referring to someone posting as "wig". I don't think he posted in the main forum, but one of the subforums. |

I'm wondering who BaboonHeart is as well. He reminds me of Rizon. |
Almost pissed my pants from laughter yesterday. My daughter and I were at the local Borders and we were was about to get in the check-out line when I spotted the "Literary" section and decided to peruse for a few more minutes.
When I got to the Ayn Rand section, I picked up Atlas Shrugged and began thumbing through the pages. I remembered this thread's mention regarding John Galt's moniker coming from AS so I figured I'd give it a go trying to find the passage (a bit of a mini-game, if you will). To my utter amazement (it doesn't take much, I know), it is the very first line in the book. The laugh that came out of me was so natural and unabated that it caused several patrons to give me the raised Spock-eyebrow treatment. It was enough that even my 5 year-old grabbed my hand and said, "Dad, those people are looking at us. Let's go." This thread is reaching out like Agent Smith into the real world... BEWARE!!!!! |

You know, I am actually feeling bad for the guy. While looking through the other message boards, I discovered that his game was advertised on the big screen in Sept. 2004. If the game would have completed then, he would have sold a lot of freaking copies. It seems that he is constantly missing the boat as you can see from the threads below.
Here are some screenshots from the game: http://pc.gamezone.com/gamesell/screens/s25389_0.htm Big Screen Discussion: http://www.maximum-football.com/pres...sept_04_04.htm http://maxfb.ipbhost.com/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=863& http://maxfb.ipbhost.com/index.php?a...f=2&t=843&st=0 Here is a similar poll to ours that was created in June of 2004: http://maxfb.ipbhost.com/index.php?a...f=2&t=798&st=0 Here are the same complaints that we addressed and this was in February of 2004: http://maxfb.ipbhost.com/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=732& And here is one of the promised release dates: http://maxfb.ipbhost.com/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=445& For what it's worth, the guy doesn't seem to be a jerk. I truly think the reason why he has delayed this game for so long is that he is somehow lacking confidence in his product. I think he is trying to make the perfect football game that will suit the needs of everybody and it is just not possible. I actually hope he does at least modestly well so that he can continue his dream and hopefully learn from all the mistakes that he made in dealing with the public, false release dates, his feelings about other indie developers, etc. It's just sad that now he is on the verge of finally selling this game and he has already decided to give off a bad image of himself. And while I do understand why his wife stood up for him, she is a bad choice for a Public Relations person. Other than that I actually wish him luck on future games. |
Quote:
He's a jerk because of the way he shat all over text-sims and the people who liked them. I do not have the links to his exact posts, but it is safe to say that his reputation as a jerk was well-earned by the FOFC community and that, I believe, is the prevailing reason why so many of us take so much pleasure watching the jerk fall on his face over and over again. |
Quote:
I guess I should have rephrased and/or elaborated on what I meant. To the text sim developers/comminunity...yeah he is a jerk. To other indie developers and 3D designers, he is actually very supportive. He is linked to a number of boards helping out others and doesn't present that selfish side. In other words, he has the potential to be a pretty good guy if he had presented that helpful, non-combative side when it came to this game. So yes, I agree he is a jerk when it comes to dealing with the text sim community at large. |
Probably a pretty big mistake pissing off the text-simmers because anyone interested in graphics won't be very impressed with the game. His base right now is pretty limited to CFL fans and FPSFB fans who haven't moved on to text sims or more graphic style football games. I think if he had been less of an ass, he could have doubled his customer base with the text simmers. But who knows, maybe there are more CFL fans than I realize.
|
Quote:
Good point. I don't know how many CFL fans there are, but the ones that I have read about are more than a little frustrated with the delays at well. |
Of course, every single last screen shot has featured American cities traditionally associated with the NFL. And in the latest movie, the Pittsburgh team might make you think about the Pittsburgh Steelers. So much for Canada.
Anyway, I wish the game success. If it's good, David Winters and Matrix Games will be properly rewarded for their trouble ragardless of what a bunch of skeptical and spoiled rotten FOF fans think. :) |
Quote:
Well, except for the ones in the screenshots section of the Maximum football site marked "Canadian." The poor guy has enough other problems on his plate, let's at least grant him his Canuckophilia. |
This is an actual screenshot posted by Daivd Winter in the MF Forums.
![]() Posting screenshots with typos is not a good idea. Here's the thread: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm...age=1􅱊 |

ok......wow.....his own name.

DAIVD's NOT HERE!
|
I guess I missed this one earlier, but a new video was released by Erik. For some reason, I am getting really concerned that people are easily getting burnt in this game. If you notice, the other team completed 1 out of 4 passes and that one pass was a touchdown. The other thing that concerns me is that 3 players have a different color uniform than the rest of their team. O
Other than that, I wish they would show examples of how you customize the game. Since that is supposed to be the selling feature, they sure are catering to it with the screenshots and videos they provide. http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1072052 |
I can't believe no one in that thread has commented on the typo, yet.

Okay, so the sequence of downs goes:
1 and 10 from the 20 2 and 11 from the 18 3 and 09 from the 20 4 and 01 from the 27 Yeah, that down and distance thing...you...you might wanna take a look at that. |
Quote:
Damn....good catch. And what's sad is that the beta testers who play it didn't even notice it. Wow! |
dola....there seems to be a number of other reasons why this didn't go live. The installer issue seems like a major excuse and the fact that there is no demo is also a bad sign.
|
I just wish the damn game would ship so I can figure out whether or not we have to email Georgia Tech and the NCAA about this mascot thing...

Quote:
lol....I laughed when I saw what cthomer posted at Matrix. By the way did you notice how the offensive lineman glide around when they pass block. It's really odd. But it seems when anyone mentions any gliding motion, David usually attributes it to how the video was captured. |
I was too busy watching the robotic shuffle of players as they wandered back to the huddle.

I think that is how the game makes uniforms dirty. |

I guess I could go with that. Maybe it indicates who is playing their asses off. So I guess that means only 3 players. |

Anybody else reminded of that old Saturday Night Live bit where Eddie Murphy tries to walk like a white guy? |
From the looks of the new movie, it appears they modeled the tackling on bowling pins. And it's not hard to knock a tight end flat on his ass. It happens within one second on every play.
|
Looking over the Matrix boards this morning, I see that playoffs are handled manually? The more I hear, the more I think this isn't actually a game but just a framework for people to develop mods. Sadly, based on the screenshots, videos and things that have been pointed out (like the down and yardage errors!)...it looks like the framework is incredibly weak. :(
At first, I felt sorry for Matrix...now I feel sorry for people who buy this game expecting a $40 or $50 game. |
Quote:
It reminded me more of Return of the Living Dead. That's settled then, if I ever buy this game (AH! fat chance! ), my team will be called the New York Zombies... |

I see cthomer didn't get a response yet on his Ga Tech question....other than the guy who said since they put the logo in a "C", mirrored it, and changed the color, it's not the same logo. :D
