He wasn't suspended for posting the original picture. The picture was removed. Deal with it and move on, and nothing happens. Here's how I put it in the mod forum.To re-state it, the appropriateness of the image has nothing to do with the length of the suspension. The length of the suspension is 100% about the "f___ you, you can't tell me what to do" that he tried to give to Quik by re-posting the image. (But to be 100% clear here, I've seen the image in question now. If I had seen it before Quik, I would have deleted it, too.)

I'd already posted and handed out the suspension when I read the childish post reports in the mod forum. As I said to several people today, if I'd read those before I made the decision, it would have been six months instead of three.

And here's an idea: if you care so much about whether your image gets removed from a silly message board or if you get suspended from said silly board, then don't post anything remotely risque. Is that difficult? If the line is unclear to you, then the intelligent and rational thing to do is to stay far away from it. Newsflash: there are eleventy billion places you can go to see inappropriate hawt chix pix on the internet. This isn't one of them. It never has been and it never will be.

I've refused to get into trying to draw specific written lines and boundaries about what is and isn't appropriate with regard to images for over seven years now. It should be clear by now that I'm not going to change that position. The reason is the same as it has always been: the second I try to write specific language, some people will try to do everything they can to get as close as possible to the line without violating whatever specifics are there.

By the way, the analogy about the cop behind the billboard is perfect when it comes to "inconsistency" and "double standards." The mods have jobs, wives, families, etc. None of them reads every thread or post here. Sometimes people just get away with something because no one saw them do it quickly enough. The string of "OMG YOU DIDN'T BAN THIS PICTURE" reported threads had pics from nearly a year ago. I'm not going to go back and retro-actively punish someone for something they did that got missed 9 days ago, let alone 9 months ago.

Oh yeah, and the comment about JG running this board is hilarious. He has said publicly many times that he would be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more strict than I am or than Blackadar was.

At least it's been acknowledged now that it's disrespect of the mods that leads to boxings. I think that's been denied in the past.

Which is fine, it's their rules. It's still not very strict around here, as far as boards go.

throwing a fit was silly, but 3 months is ridiculous. at that point you might as well just outright ban someone. lengths of suspensions here are out of proportion of offenses.

Maybe this thread should be renamed "The thread for images so cool that they belong in this thread and still fall under someone's arbitrary moral standards"

I have no problem looking at hot chick pix. It's just that I can find those easily on the 'net. The cool or unusual pix that make up most of this thread I'm less likely to come across on my own. Combine that fact with the fact that it's been made quite clear on this board that there's not a lot of tolerance for things that could get people in trouble for viewing this site at work (including risque pictures of women), and I'm having a hard time feeling terribly sorry for the people that are getting all up in arms about how the mods are acting. If you don't want trouble, don't post risque pix. Why not just keep this thread all about the cool or unusual pictures of things that are not half naked (or fully naked) people, and then there's no problems.

I've probably never ever agreed with a single thing the Dark Jedi has ever said, apart from the fact that Rakim is the best rapper in the history of forever (word!). But seriously, if you don't get what he's saying by now about what passes for acceptable on FOFC and what isn't, then you need to give up on the internets, and right now, because he's never been anything but crystal clear and consistent.

And even a hater like me understands that and knows better than to get into a pissing contest with someone who controls my ability to participate.

I just think it's kind of funny. There's this juvenile tool at their disposal when someone's feelings are hurt. It's the only "thing" you can do to "get back" at somebody in the internet world if you feel disrespected.

When I was a kid we were occasionally banned from each other's sandboxes for some fixed period of time. This kind of reminds me of that.

We should just hire Hitman Monkey to monitor this thread and be done with it.

Funny how you can pretty much set your watch by how these things will go:

1. Someone is amped up for an unknown reason and takes it out on a mod.

2. Said mod puts him in the box and makes a “did you see what this jackass did” post in the mods forum.

3. SkyDog ups the ban to some stupid length.

4. Everyone who was initially said “yeah, that’s a boxing everyone time” is now saying “3 months, WTF?”

5. We then get the crowning post of the whole affair: SkyDog telling everyone “it’s just a message board; you’re being stupid for taking this seriously and YOU MUST RESPECT MY AUTHOURITY.”

6. Everyone sighs and thinks “yep, still a douche with a stick up his ass.”

Rinse and repeat every 9-12 months.
