I shall attempt to compose myself. The emergence of the Iron Islands is surely a boon to the Stannis-Stark alliance as there are now two extra bannerman who can be voted off before they have to vote each other. Stannis has demonstrated that he doesn't have the manpower to fight a war on his own so it looks as though the Greyjoys can expect a warm welcome to the game.

For those unfortunates who were killed in the past 24 hours and were not resurrected, and the FOFC George Martin (because he needs another thread to keep an eye on):

Should he have captured you I see nothing that would prevent him from "forcing" you to bend the knee. You do not appear to be able to go to him but it would appear that he is allowed to take you.

This tells me that Joffrey's decision was a hasty one made with the impetuous of youth. It is clear that, without my father's steadying hand and with Jaime's lust for adventure, Joffrey made a unwise decision. Perhaps he fell under the sway of Renly's rhetoric. Quite what he hoped to gain by helping Renly I do not know. But I don't too much should be read into his actions. I'm sure he is regretting them, almost as much as I am.

I've spent a fair amount of time exploring my options (ooc - pestering Chief Rum) and do not believe that this is among them. Were Joffrey to capture me, I'm fairly sure bending the knee would be off the table.

So the Stark boy has but one bannerman - I would be hard pressed to think of one reason why he should want to hand the Tarth woman back to Renly. He might hold the military might but Stannis has him outnumbered three to one at the moment. I doubt anyone can take the war to Renly either, as he could retreat to a landlocked area so there will be no naval superiority coming into play.

I should have a window to answer PMs and be in-thread from around 1:30pm EST to sometime shortly before 4pm EST, but that's likely it, unless I can sneak in a little bit before my lunch at noon. Lord Penrose - you have an opportunity to leave your liege now. It seems likely that your lord will be involved in war again in the near future. Such a war would like as not be a death sentence for you. Not for Lord Renly, mind, but for you. The best you can hope for is that you are captured and are made the bannerman of another of the kings. If you flee then you will be accelerating the process, but while you are on a free foot you cannot be killed in war.

I make no bones about my emnity for Lord Renly. However this doesn't lessen the truth of what I am saying. If you stay loyal to your liege then you will die soon. And why would you remain loyal to a lord who has made a sow's ear of the business of diplomacy. It is through no fault of your own that you have been forced into a war against the Starks and Stannis. Flee while you can! There are plenty other houses who will accept a new bannerman.

Lord Stannis. You must be feeling rightfully thankful for the assistance provided by Lord Stark. But consider the lessons of the battle recently fought on your lands. It seems to me that you will always be at a disadvantage while you lack the manpower to fight. You will never be able to attack another lord on your own as your enemy will be able to retreat to an area lacking in coastline, negating the value of your fleet.

I ask, in the spirit of friendship, how you intend to defeat Robb Stark. It strikes me we have all underestimated Starks diplomatic prowess. He positioned himself expertly during the initial alliance against my son - making himself mediator between the two fractious brothers. Thus, when the Lannisters had been displaced, both brothers turned to him for his support - allowing him to make the alliance he wanted. Now it seems that Renly is mortally wounded, just as Joffrey is. This is perfect for Stark - he has seriously weakened the two houses that more than matched his military might - leaving you as his primary rival. And I think we know how things will go should it come to open war between Stark and yourself. If you would be king then you have to find yourself more fighting men.
