Me too. Thought it was great.

As far as Bloodline goes, being from a f-cked up family myself, I see a lot reality in this show. The wife & I love it.

SteveMax58 07-23-2016 09:32 PM

Just finished Stranger Things....really good. We couldn't stop watching.

So much 80s awesomeness as well. Even the credits, music, just a cool trip down memory lane. Only this is a memory you didn't remember.

NobodyHere 07-24-2016 04:36 PM

Netflix has been announced as the new home for the new season Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Groundhog 07-24-2016 07:12 PM

Watched the first 3 episodes of Stranger Things last night - agree with all the above, quality show and it really nailed the 80s theme, a few minor quibbles aside (was douchebag an insult in the 80s?).

Weirdest thing for me was thinking that when kids watch shows set in the 80s these days, it must feel like it did for me watching shows based in the 50s/60s when I was a kid...

Said something similar to friends last night when "Welcome to the Jungle" came on. Said ten year old kids hearing that would be akin to me hearing Holly, Berry, or Elvis at their age.

YES!!

I was on vacay when Season 3 dropped, so I was a bit sad I couldn't start on it, but there is going to be a lot of BoJack on my TV for the next few days!

Peregrine 07-29-2016 11:41 PM

Anyone watched Last Chance U - new Netflix docu-series? Only six episodes and I found them all very watchable. Follow the football season of a college playing in the JUCO league - East Mississippi CC through ups and downs, and really get to know some of the players as well. I was impressed.

Groundhog 08-02-2016 08:04 PM

Finished Stranger Things last night. Really excellent show, start to finish - nostalgia done right.

Butter 08-02-2016 08:16 PM

The Invitation. Don't want to give it away, but it is unsettling all the way through. Even the opening minute subverts your expectation of this type of movie. Really well done, low budget, "thriller", if you can call it that. The group of friends are a bit insufferable, but I recommend it.

MrBug708 08-02-2016 08:48 PM

Anyone have any guesses on when season 6 of TWD will show up on netflix?

Agreed...That was good stuff. Not sure it's workable for a second season, but sign me up anyway.

Groundhog 08-09-2016 11:49 PM

I watched the first two episodes of Tyrant last night, and really enjoyed it. Not sure how it's going to play out long-term, but basic premise is the son of a Middle Eastern dictator who has been living in the US with a wife and kids flies back home for the first time in 20 years, when all hell breaks loose. It doesn't hold back, that's for sure... Some real shocking scenes.

It doesn't seem to review super well but I quite enjoy The Ranch. A good mix of comedy and more dramatic scenes, it reminds me a lot of Roseanne.

1 Episode in, a good starts. Not season 1 good, but better than season 2 good.

Not sure that it's a show made for binging though, I think 2 in a sitting will be my limit. And time for a coffee refill and onto episode 2.

Big fan of season 1 and 2. That being said, I think they ran out of creative steam for season 3. First 3 episodes are great, but things rapidly go down hill from there. Not that eps 4-6 are bad, theyre just not Black Mirror good.

Karlifornia 10-23-2016 11:09 PM

This for me too, despite saying 2 was my limit only 3 posts ago, we watched 3 tonight.

Episode 3 was best of the bunch for me. Not as quirky and imaginative as Episode 1, but well done and mean spirited.

Honolulu_Blue 10-24-2016 12:34 AM

I watched the first 4 episodes of Season 3 over the weekend.

Episode 3 was very well done and mean spirited. It was definitely taking the dark side of the internet - in various ways - to an extreme. Pretty stunning.

Episode 1 was good, but just a little too on the nose.

Episode 2 didn't really hold up in terms of a narrative.

Episode 4 did hold up in terms of a narrative, but it just wasn't terribly compelling.

I watched this one last night, and have to agree. It was far from my favorite, maybe because it seemed pretty low-stakes so it failed to draw much of an emotional response from me.

Honolulu_Blue 10-25-2016 10:17 AM

I watched the final two Season 3 Black Mirror episodes.

I liked them both quite a bit. They were really different, but interesting. I was a bit on the fence with the last one, but in the end I quite liked it. They managed to tie in the tech/social media aspect while telling a pretty interesting and compelling story.

The third episode - "Shut Up And Dance" - is still the best. It's definitely the one that lingers with you the longest. The "White Bear" of this season.

ISiddiqui 10-25-2016 11:00 AM

I watched the first 3 episodes of Black Mirror. I liked the first one - yeah, it was on the nose, but it had a 'twist' ending for Black Mirror, and that twist was a somewhat hopeful end note. The second one was quite a mindfuck, but ok rather than great. The third one was pretty horrifying -

Spoiler

I'm excited to watching Ep4 because all the critics are going crazy over it.

Butter 10-25-2016 12:06 PM

Ep. 2 seemed to go one twist too far for me... and the underlying meaning or moral was a little too heavy-handed for me.

Ep. 3 was really, really good. The reveal that happens adds even more meaning to
Spoiler

The main kid in Ep. 3 was the best acting of the entire series so far, for me.

Don't Trust the B**** in Apartment 23.

Oh my, This is hilarious. James Vander Beek plays himself. The two women are opposites. Single in NYC. Hard edged woman and a softer woman.

I am powering through the 2 seasons. It is awesome.

I'm *still* pissed this got canceled - I binge watched it a few years ago.

sabotai 10-25-2016 09:00 PM

Watched the first 3 episodes of Black Mirror season 3, and agree with most here. Ep3, Ep1 and Ep2 is how I'd rank them. With episode 2, I enjoyed it but I feel the writers tried too hard with the ending. Just didn't work for me.

ISiddiqui 10-25-2016 11:43 PM

Man, Episode 4 of Black Mirror was fantastic!! I knew there would be a twist but I didn't particularly expect that. And it was a much much more hopeful look at technology than Black Mirror usually has and that was somewhat refreshing.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised at the episode as well. I wasn't expecting that either and before the reveal was thinking it was going down a different path. The soundtrack for the show was pretty well done as well, especially the last song.

Butter 10-27-2016 09:03 AM

Yeah, Episode 4 of Black Mirror... wow. Amazing. Just sat in silence for a couple minutes after, feeling the feelings.

Episode 5 was not great, but it had a tough act to follow.

Yeah...just........yeah.

I watched 4-6.

-For me, episode 4 is maybe one of the best things I've even on television. I actually cried happy tears at the end. How the writer managed to get such depth of character in a less than one hour episode, I have no clue, but it was masterful. It was fun and quirky for the first half, and then just segued into really deep themes. There was love, death, sacrifice, grief...none of it seemed corny or forced, either. That damn Belinda Carlisle song was a perfect choice...and it's been stuck in my head for a week now.

-I watched ep. 5 immediately afterward, and it fell flat by comparison. I need to watch it again.

-I read somewhere that ep. 6 felt like straight sci-fi thriller. It was, but in a good way. My only qualm was with the villain/ending. I'm glad they didn't let the cat out of the bag too early. I would have been bored by 80 minutes of cat and mouse. I do feel the villain was underdeveloped, though. Why did he feel so strongly about society? Ah, well.....can't have it both ways. Very good episode. It felt like a blockbuster big budget feature.

Any studio would be foolish not to send the show runner an offer.

hollmt 10-31-2016 03:27 PM

I enjoyed episode 6 a lot as well. I finished up the season Friday and ranked as follows:

San Junipero - Just a great episode with a different twist and played with your emotions in a good way. That last song man....just well done. When I was younger and even a little today I guess, my idea of 'heaven' and if it exists and if we go there, is this place just for you of your own making with whoever you want to be with. A long lost love, family, etc. It really just hit some good nerves and emotions.
Hated in the Nation - Great episode as well with a nice twist and played with the big brother aspect some.
Shut Up and Dance - Good acting. and Bronn was in it. Nice little twist.
Nosedive - Good as well. just not as good as the others. I dug the phoniness of people.
Men Against Fire - I liked it. I really did. I got the message but the very last scene though confused me. I might need to watch it again and might move it ahead of Nosedive and Shut Up and Dance. So this could be 3.
Playtest - Been there done that theme. The entire time I knew exactly what was going on and wasn't at all shocked with where they were going. They tried to force too many twists and it wasn't shocking at all.

I like how bigger name actors/recognized actors are getting involved in this series too. Howard in Nosedive, Bronn (Jerome Flynn) from GoT in Shut up..., Michael Kelly from House of Cards in Men... and Kelly Macdonald in Hated. I might have missed some.

sabotai 11-11-2016 06:58 PM

Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You

Just finished watching it. Learned more about his personal life than from the few other docs I've seen talking about him and his work.

tarcone 11-11-2016 09:16 PM

The Fall

Stars Gillian Anderson. It is British. Anderson is a detective who believes there is a connection between a couple murders. There is. A serial killer is loose.
This is a really good, really dark drama.

3 seasons. We are finishing season 2.

Haven't seen it yet, but apparently it's one of those "docudramas" or whatever they call them.

tarcone 11-18-2016 07:15 PM

Its a drama that has experts pooping in and explaining what is going on during that time period and the characters involved, etc.

QuikSand 11-18-2016 07:19 PM

This is a difficult thread. I'm a guy looking for a new binge-watch show. I'm, just into season 3 of Orphan Black and looking or an off-ramp.

This thread, combined with outside input, have me thinking the answers are basically:

-Black Mirror, start at the beginning
-Narcos, start at the beginning
-fend for yourself in the wilderness of Amazon and whatnot

JPhillips 11-18-2016 07:23 PM

Narcos is great. I'm not sure how they'll transition to season three, but the first two seasons are excellent.

Saw the first episode. It's like the type of shows History Channel used to show, with perhaps more dramatic scenes. And like the shows they used to make for History Channel, there's been hardly any effort to maintain historical accuracy in the dramatic scenes.

cartman 11-28-2016 01:43 PM

The Mythbusters not named Adam or Jamie will have a new Netflix series named "White Rabbit Project" that will use science to show how strange inventions and happenings in history took place.

Netflix's 'White Rabbit Project' looks like 'Mythbusters 2.0'

Let me recommend The Fall as well. 3 short seasons, but very well written and acted. Somewhat disappointing that the whole series has been based around the same case, but it still draws you in very well. I will say that if I had just watched season 1 and had to wait a year for season 2, I would have been pissed.

Another I stumbled on: Versailles The story of Louis XIV and the building the palace of the Sun. Lots of court intrigue (and lots of sex), but has great The Tudors feel. It is very interestingly created for French television by Canal, BBC, Canadian Superstation and some American cable network I've never hear of, but using largely British actors, and all in English.

Scifi with a Fringe/Quantum Leap kind of feel.

Watched the first 2 eps of The OA and I'm hooked! It kind of hard to describe, but there is a major mystery throughout, but includes an element of fantasy, while being weird, without being 'too weird'. It's great!

I watched 3 episodes of the OA on New Year's Day and wasn't feeling it. Does not seem like a smart enough show to justify some of the more artsy/pretentious stuff I saw (ooh, I wonder if there's going to be any symbolism in naming the main character's friend Homer?!) and on the flip side it wasn't mindlessly entertaining enough to inspire me to power through the remaining hours to see if anything really ended up happening.

Fiance watched this over the holidays. Way too artsy for me. She enjoyed it until the last episode which completely ruined everything as far as she was concerned.

Yeah, I ended up telling the person I watched it with to go ahead and watch the rest without me and let me know whether it was worth it. Last night got a resounding 'no' as a result of the finale as well.

ISiddiqui 01-07-2017 02:00 AM

Finished The OA and really, really enjoyed it! I can see where some folks may have disliked the finale, especially the last 15 minutes. There was a major scene that was really cheesy (though may be the point) and then at the end I was like Whaaaa... until my girlfriend pointed out something that I had totally missed and then I rewound and it made a million times more sense to me (has to do with a sound that references something way early in the series - I can see it being easily missed if you don't watch the show in a few sittings).

Definitely worth watching and bingeing.

TroyF 01-23-2017 01:22 PM

2 episodes left to finish the 3%. I've enjoyed the show. Some nice twists. Usually not a huge fan of shows like this, but I think this one is pretty good. Good enough I'd watch a season 2. Should finish off the last two episodes tonight.

I watched it. I thought it was horrible. The kid was annoying and there was nothing scary about it. Maybe if I approached it from something other than a horror movie it would work better, but wow it was a waste of my time. 1/10.

I did start watching Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia and I love it. I only finished the short season 1 and I heard it gets a lot better. I read it described as Seinfeld on heroine and I get that.

Aw, that's too bad.
I went into it thinking it was a standard horror flick as well and expected 'low budget horror', but soon realized it wasn't that and I think that is what made it more enjoyable for me. Especially after I read up on it after I watched it. Much more a a mess with your mind than horror.

Agree on the boy being annoying though.

RainMaker 01-24-2017 12:58 AM

If you like docudramas, Roman Empire: Reign of Blood isn't bad. I'm a sucker for any kind of Roman stuff so I watched. Tells the story of Commodus which is a rather remarkable one. It's only 6 episodes so you can get through it pretty quick.

Noticed Frontier is up. Was kind of interested but wondering if it's worthwhile? Also has anyone seen Medici? Frank Spotnitz is behind it and I loved Man in the High Castle so it peaked my interest.

GrantDawg 01-24-2017 06:23 AM

Medici was ok. Not great, but not bad. I'll watch a second season if there is one.

Critch 01-24-2017 11:40 AM

Travelers was ok, but not great.

Started well, good idea, but got in a bit of a rut of sameish-ness. Season 1 ended with a huge cliff-hanger ending promising a season 2, no real closure.

I just watched the first two episodes of Santa Clarita Diet and laughed my ass off at a lot of it. Great cameos (Patton Oswalt, Andy Richter so far) Some laugh out loud moments for me at least. I will binge the rest of the season this weekend.

It looks good. Im glad you wrote something. I will be watching it tonight.

Season 3 of The Fall was pretty boring.

CrimsonFox 02-03-2017 01:22 PM

I never get tired of The Office and The IT Crowd. I found a MAKING OF The IT Crowd documentary called the IT CROWD MANUAL.

Also INdie Game the movie and its sequel are really good

Great show. Lost its fastball in the last couple seasons but always had enough quality episodes to keep watching.

yeah this is my second attempt at making it all the way through the series. I really like season 7. Season 8 started out okay. I didn't like Robert California last time but I've gotten to love his strange narcissistic cadence. However the addition of Nellie makes no sense and took so much away from the show. I liked that they finally found a good spot for Andy. At first he just seemed obnoxious and a troll to Jim., Then he was good as a competitor for Dwight over Angela. BUt all the while he was always like being "another Michael". And then the competition with Gabe over Erin was pretty funny. BUt I hate ERin. Her stupidity just isn't funny. And episodes in 8 featuring the two are embarassingly bad. Andy by then had become an oaf of a character and the writers seemed to try to do as many bad things to him as possible. Much in the same way certain frasier episodes would have frasier fail as badly as he could. And the Nellie addition and what it did to Andy really continued that. That as well, Nellie was the third time we see the old gag of someone coming in, deciding they wanted to be a job and suddenly they were. At least when Pam did it for Office Manager it was funny seeing her get so frustrated with sales that she manipulated everyone and Gabe to declare her new position. THe Deus Ex Machina of Robert "talking Jo out of her job as CEO" was as ridiculous as how it happened (Jim just telling us). So by the time Nellie does it to Andy...it's just mean. And what's more Mellie takes away from the actual funniness of the rest of the ensemble which actually could have gotten more feature stories instead.

Season 9...we'll see if it gets better. But with Tate still there and the introduction of yet 2 MORE employees...I dunno. So glad to see David Wallace back tho. Love him.

Netflix's 'White Rabbit Project' looks like 'Mythbusters 2.0'

I know itīs been on a while but only got around to watch it recently, ranged from "well, ok" to pretty cringeworthy in my eyes. Really uneven even within episodes with some cool stuff but super forced and awkward presentation trying desperately to be hip/cool ...

I really liked the first 5 or 6 episodes of Designated Survivor, got a little too convoluted in later episodes (though still had really strong stuff, f.e. the Whistleblower-thing was great). Still looking forward to new episodes.

Also loved Hip Hop Evolution. Well researched and narrated, some genuinely great interviews. Might be different for actual experts, as is usually the case with documentaries, but as someone who knew a little bit about pre-modern HipHop (takes up some decent storage space on my mp3 player and read the odd book or took a random wikipedia-tour) it still added a ton of insight and introduced quite a few lesser-known artists and trivia.

"American Crime Story: People vs. O.J. Simpson" finally made it to a streaming service (and it's Netflix, hence why posting in this thread). I can't wait to actually see it!

I know it seems like Netflix is 75% originals right now, but I'll give a shout out to a really good psychological thriller I watched last night:

Sun Choke - 8/10

Hey, it's Millie from "Freaks and Geeks"! Only she's totally fucking unhinged, and it's not entirely clear why. The first half is a bit of a dive into her treatment and her psychosis, while the last half is the consequence of either trying, or not trying hard enough, to keep that psychosis in check. Sarah Hagan's performance is outstanding, even as the material lets her down (the last half hour especially)... this film does a nice job of keeping her character mysterious, but it's just a little TOO mysterious. If you are a fan of thriller movies making you "uncomfortable", this one fits the bill far better than expected. Also recommended if you want to see Millie unhinged, because it's quite something to see.

Anyone else watch Santa Clarita diet? The wife and I watched season 1 and both loved it. Cleverly written and entertaining.

I wrote about it above. Love the show. I still didn't finish it (I think I'm at episode 7) I planned on binging it, but the last two weeks have been kind of crazy.

I think it is going to be a show where people either really like it a lot or people really hate it a lot. I don't see a lot of "meh" with that show. I really like it. Good writing. It knows what it is and doesn't try to pretend it is anything else.

I watched The Commitments.

What a good movie. The music was incredible. I loved it. The story was good, and the music was great. Made this a must see.

New episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000 are coming on April 14th

TroyF 02-24-2017 02:11 PM

Watched Crazyhead. (6 episodes) Kind of a Buffy like vibe with it. Very, very straightforward plot, but had some pretty funny moments. I'll watch it if it gets renewed.
