I like Mr. Ecko (Echo). He's a very likeable character. I also can't wait for the old couple to reunite.

Next week's episode looks a lot scarier than any other one we've seen, with bodies being yanked away.

Even though they made her character a little more sympathetic, I'm still glad she bit it. With the mood swings and poutiness, she was still annoying.

jamesUMD 11-10-2005 06:24 AM

I personally don't think that Sahannon is dead. I think they left it open to interpretation somewhat by having the other lady also disappear. It could be that "Cindy" is dead, and they will somehow get Shannon back to Jack, and he will pull a MacGuyver on her and save her with the innerds of a ballpoint pen or seat cushion.

rkmsuf 11-10-2005 08:34 AM

I hated Shannon and her character so I'm tickled pink.

Wasn't a big fan of the first 40 minutes of last night but the ending made the whole thing for me. Very well done.

edit, as far as not being dead it makes sense since the whole show was her stupid backstory.

Subby 11-10-2005 08:36 AM

Her backstory last night made her a lot more sympathetic, which was obviously their aim. It was weird to see her as sweet, semi-spoiled teenager when we were used to Vindictive Mega-Bitch.

Plus she was hot.

Kodos 11-10-2005 09:02 AM

I certainly would've chosen her to be killed if it had to be someone. :)

she looks smelly. can you imagine the stentch in that tent they set up.

Subby 11-10-2005 09:09 AM

Is Walt now one of The Others? Did he lead Shannon to her death last night?

Walt has taken a decidedly creepy turn. He used to be so nice.

Oh and Michael got the line in last night. "They took my son!"

Daimyo 11-10-2005 09:23 AM

The episode and the preview for next week gave me the impression that the tailies had several children with them when they crashed and all were taken by and incorporated into the others.

Daimyo 11-10-2005 09:29 AM

DOLA, ABC launched an official Lost podcast this week. You can get it at the abc website or automatically via subscription in itunes. The first one featured interviews with the actors who play Jin and Sawyer mainly about filming on the raft at the end of season 1 and then a Q&A session with the producers.

Its weird to hear Daniel Dae Kim (Jin) talk because he has no accent at all. In fact I remember reading before that he actually didn't speak Korean before the show started and had to be tutored by the actress who plays Sun.

I think it showed that she wasn't always the mega-bitch we've seen... it was probably a personality change that resulted from her step-mom's treatment of her after he dad died. I'm glad she was the one they killed off because I really don't think anyone else is worth killing off at this point.

As far as the female leads on the show, it's nice to see that they've sort of lined up Rose to replace her as a "full-time" character...

I really do think Anna is the one that killed Shannon...

Poli 11-10-2005 10:27 AM

There's a nice plot of land beside her brother.

I think he's in possession of the others, but I took it that he was trying to warn shannon. Wasn't he telling her to be quiet? Instead she ran off yelling and screaming which scared the other group and (likely) caused her to get shot.

Daimyo 11-10-2005 10:47 AM

Anna shooting Shannon re-enforces my earlier theory that the tail'ies actually killed each other out of fear of the Others as opposed to the Others directly killing them. They mentioned the one named casualty as being "taken" but we saw him before with a spear in his gut.

but she yell Walt like 5 times. you would think Michael will here shannon say it.

True, but wasn't it pouring rain at the time when she was yelling? It probably sounded muffled to the Tail section people and Walt etc through all that noise the rain was creating in the jungle.

Draft Dodger 11-10-2005 01:07 PM

nice episode.

yeah, I don't think she's gone, and I don't think it was Rodriguez anyway. Rousseau, perhaps? that whole scene looked like a big setup for a twist (not that there's anything wrong with that).

anyone here the speculation about Libby being involved in Cindy's disappearance? my wife said something about a cave with a shadow in it, but I missed that. unless she's talking about the camera watching Sayid and Shannon right at the end.

one of my big gripes with the show is the number of times someone is 10 feet away from someone else in the woods, and no one can hear them yelling.

But yet they hear the whispers?

Here is something to ponder, and someone correct me if I am wrong, I will have to watch when I get home but the audience never sees Shannon/Sayid together with Tailies/Rafties. The shots are presented together in such a way that our minds fill in the the blanks, and we presume that the events are occuring together. Is it possible that someone else shot Shannon, and either Sayid is looking at the killer, or Ana-Lucia is pointing her gun at the killer? But that the scenes are put together to make the audience think that Ana Lucia shot Shannon and they are meeting up at that moment?

I am almost leaning towards the fact that someone else shot Shannon, maybe Danielle from a distance. All we saw was Shannon run off into the jungle, wouldn't Mike/Jin recognized her as she ran up on that group? Why would Michael and Jin be so silent at that moment when Ana is pointing the gun at someone?

Daimyo 11-10-2005 01:47 PM

I imagine the next episode will start with seeing the scene from the tail'ies perspective. Anna doesn't really trust or care about Michael/Jin and she's very jumpy/aggressive. I don't think there is any possible way they could have controlled her in that situation even if they had recognized Shannon quick enough to try to do something. It would have been too chaotic.

JasonC23 11-10-2005 01:47 PM

I'm hoping next week's episode will tell the story of the Tailies all the way up until the shooting, so...

A) We can see it from Ana's point of view to see why she (maybe) shot when she did. I'm guessing it's because they were running scared and no one had a chance to figure out who she was shooting at.

B) We can see the exact same event in 2 different episodes and re-piss off everybody who hated it the first time they did that this season. :D

EDIT: Or, um, what the post right above this one said (it wasn't there when I started typing, I swear).

rkmsuf 11-10-2005 01:50 PM

If she didn't really shoot Shannon then that's just stupid.

Yes, the first 5 minutes or so will be a recap from the Tailies point of view. Then someone will probably ask them to be more specific than "we were attacked", and they recap what happened from day 1 to them.

Maybe at some point there will be a reward challenge between the Fronties and Tailies. :D

Why would it be stupid? If it was Danielle, who is still out there with a gun, who thought Shannon was sick, and shot her, why would that be dumb? And where the hell did Desmond go? He is still "out and about town" as well.

I just think it's far more interesting this way and is the way it was presented. Starting will all this hocus/pocus crap seems dumb. They story is good right now and the whole wow of last night is that it was her. Anything else ruins that.

Pyser 11-10-2005 02:06 PM

are we really done with shannon? i cant imagine that whole storyline being closed. they opened more doors than closed, as opposed to boone, who had nothing left to do.

but shannon still has to have it out with jack, doesnt she? it would be kind of lame to set that whole thing with her father up, and then kick her off the show.

Yeah, I don't think she is dead either. Cindy is the one the voice over noted was gone forever. And as Jamesumd put earlier, they will get Shannon back to Jack " and he will pull a MacGuyver on her and save her with the innerds of a ballpoint pen or seat cushion."

I hate that storyline. Dump her off a cliff and let's move on.

rkmsuf 11-10-2005 02:19 PM

It's much cooler if Shannon is out.

Sayid will be like "Waaaaaa"

Jack will be like "Awwww"

Kate will be like *shrug*

Hurley will be like "told ya dude"

Michael will be like "Walt!"

Walt will be like "ajh;aojo;aejr"

Sawyer will be like "Grrrrr!"

Jin will be like "No english."

Locke will be like "Somebody push the button!"

JJ Abrams will be like "Heh, try and find another gig this good sweetheart."

Hobbit will be like "meh, she wanted my stash."

Dog will be like "Wof!"

gottimd 11-10-2005 02:21 PM

You forgot to add two lines in there:

Ecko says "Boom goes the dynamite"

The Others say "Your base belongs to us"

Excellent point. I hadn't thought about it, but I bet you are right.

I think Shannon is done. She may linger for a few more episodes, but word was out that one of the regulars was unhappy with their contracts and she has been quoted as saying it is tough for a young actress to be away from Hollywood (re: movie opportunities).

With the tailies potentially adding more main characters, she is expendable. The blonde psychologist has been in some movies and TV series, so she may end up with a larger role than we are expecting. Ana-Lucia, Mr. Echo (who I'm guessing we are all missing something with his name), and now Rose and Bernard could all emerge as main characters.

Pyser 11-10-2005 02:46 PM

haha, i just laughed when i remembered "echo" represents the letter E.

Mr. E.

Mystery.

Funny one, writers (even though its Mr. Eko, i believe, the point still stands).

Did anyone else notice in the Hospital scene that (1) Jack was rushing by as the other surgeon was talking and (2) Rose was sitting in the hallway reading a magazine?

Shannon not dead.

when Boone died, the next day he was doing interviews on mourning talk shows, etra, entertainment tonight about him being off the show.

if we dont see any interview with shannon today, we can assume she is stil on the show alive.

#1 nope, although I heard about it. #2 nope, and I didn't hear about it. The Jack thing I can understand, but why would Rose be there?

On a different note, I think flere needs to come into this thread to show the relationships of everyone on the island both before and after the crash.

Raiders Army 11-10-2005 03:06 PM

But maybe Shannon dies in two weeks instead of last night. Then we could see an interview the next day.

That's what I am guessing. She'll have a dramatic few weeks, but I think she is as good as dead and the actress that plays her has probably shot her last scenes (other than an occasional flashback in the future).

Daimyo 11-10-2005 03:22 PM

I think Shannon will be dead (maybe she'll last a few more episodes). In the official podcast they talked about wanting to occasionally kill regulars to both 1) remind the audience how dangerous the environment is and 2) to allow them to keep the story fresh by rotating in new characters. I take that to mean Shannon is out and they'll move one or more of the tailies into the regular group of recuring storylines.

Raiders Army 11-10-2005 03:28 PM

Doesn't anyone else find it interesting that it took over a season to tell the fronties' story, but we're getting the tailies' story in one episode?

Toddzilla 11-10-2005 03:55 PM

FWIW, Maggie Grace no longer appears as a cast member for future episodes of Lost on IMDB.com

gottimd 11-10-2005 05:40 PM

Forget Post #621, I just watched it again, it shows Ana's (Ana Lucia or AnaL) sidearm in front of the camera as it looks on an angry/upset Sayid holding shannon. AnaL did shoot shannon.

I think the next episode will then start off right where this one left off, but I think Sayid may go crazy on AnaL and Ecko will intervene, and there will be a minor scuffle, and Michael will yell "WALT!" for no reason repeatedly. Okay maybe not the Walt comment, but Michael will most likely intervene on the scuffle and demand to know the details of what happened to the tail end people, and thus the flashback to the tail enders begins.
And there is no way that is Rose in the Hospital. Yes, it is a black woman sitting there reading, but its not her.

It's not Mr. Echo, it's Mistereko.... I think.

At least that's what my CC said when I saw the episode when he first came in and introduced himself.
