The primary form of art in the world today is video (movies, tv, etc...). Hitchcock is considered one of if not the best and most influential in this form of art.
|
I read your justification then, I just don't agree that Hitchcock fits in a draft with only 12 artists from across all history. There were better 20th century artists and better USA artists and both to grab.
|
In regards to video/film though?
|
I'd say he was the best choice for 20th century/USA/film available. Probably top three internationally.

Yay! I might even have some other stuff for you. *Metternich succeeds again* |
Well at the point i took galbraith there weren't really a lot of other economists left - Marx was gone, as was the UK. Frankly I wasn't about a "name recognition" pick or I would have gone Greenspan or I guess Friedman, but Galbraith was a much more "cerebral" pick.
Don't worry - I'll provide summaries of all my picks for the voters. |

Ok, I'll take that then :) |

Just remember I have the internet and oil. That pretty much makes me an economic giant as well as a military power. Also the decision to make peace was courtesy of King Solomon and King David. |

You'll be needing to use that money and resources to purchase advanced technology and cultural improvements from the People's Republic of Coffee. Einstein's work doesn't come cheap, and your people will enjoy spiritual learning and culture courtesy of Christ and Shakespeare. |

you have two kings? do you also have Three Princes? :D |
Don't forget, Izludia owns the air space of the world and we're going to govern space as well. :D

Einstein doesn't have any work that's his own. Isaac Newton has a copyright on all derivatives of his life's work - duly registered on the Internet. :D |

you can't militarize space. there's treaties against that. |

There is no advance tech without Oil. Enjoy sending those messages on foot or horse. I am the Oil barron and I also control the information.
*Evil Laugh* |
Oh as for science Imhotep is the father of it all. I have it all covered baby.
|
Anthony Fokker built advanced weapons of war with some lumber, a machine gun, and a few lengths of canvas. Imagine what he'll cook up with Einstein's ideas. Then comes Rommel and Morgan unleashing the whoop ass.
Submit. |
My country has food through a trade agreement with DT's country the rest of the tech are not possible without Oil and knowledge which is derived from Imhotep.
*Evil Cackle* |
Yeah, you'll all have space programs and oil fields after I conquer your asses with Alexander the Great and Musahi Miyamoto. Miyamoto wrote one of the enduring military strategy works of all time, in addition to being a poet, artist, and the greatest warrior of all time.
Plus, just wait until you see my ruler/leader.... ;) |
Einstein has the formula for freakin' ENERGY.
Enjoy that oil. Can't do nothing with it, 'cause we control power. |

Actually, I don;t think Charlemagne was a bad choice for r/l. I just thought he was maybe a round too early, but not bad. I can;t criticize you too much. |
LOL
I think it'd be awesome if we continued on with this alliances thing afterward and tried to imagine such a world |
Izulde - If you don;t pick the manmade structure I expect you too, then I will tease you for it incessantly.

One thing I've learned in this draft. It's REALLY hard to predict who/what people do and do not think of. There were several picks I thought I was totally safe stashing away, and several utterly obvious ones that I couldn't believe fell so deep. I actually agree he was prolly a round or 2 early, but I was getting a little punchy by round 4 with some of the picks. |
Quote:
I'd say its writing with all of the blogs and stuff running around. |

Ah, then you agree, good old Billy Shakespeare wins again! |
Nabokov is the one who understands the complexities of this world. :D
|
There's a man-made structure I don't want to take but I feel almost compelled to take. And then one that I really want to take but I don't think would get as much love, although in the "Noop-style" it'd be much better as a piece of my nation.

I prefer Abe's Country of Happiness and Joy
|
Nooptopia is a fine.
|

So you and Danny will be allies then? |
Quote:
I think definitely not. People (not talking about people here) as a population are much more influenced and affected by video I think. |
Abe and Danny will be at war then? Which ever of you offers the best deal to my country will be protected.
|
There are states other than war and peace.

Aristotle is 2400 years old, he has invented time travel, and has utilized the power of the sun and water to power our entire country at a rate 100x more efficient and powerful than what exists in the world today.

Fixed that. |
The student shall become the teacher as Alexander reveals his anti-time travel you can not touch me belt, and slices Aristotle in half with Miyamoto's katana.
Okay, can we stop playing this game now? |
For army leader I am going to take Apocalypse and unleash the power of the four horsemen on you guys.

You can peacefully submit to my aggressive and war like country. *evil laugh* Okay maybe I won't invade you but be mindful. |
To kinda link on with Abe's picks per round I thought Iwould toss in my view as well.
Best Picks per round: Round 1: Izulde The Red Baron. A strong pick in perhaps the weekest category Round 2: Danny -Gandhi. There were several very solid picks here, this is slightly above a couple others Round 3:Coffee Warlord-Shakespeare. in a basically pre 20th century round snAagging the best writer was a good get here. Round 4:Izulde-Hammurabi. This went in a different direction than I expected and started several picks dealing with creating codes of law Round 5:surrt-Churchill. a very solid diplomat and a steal in this round. Round 6:Izulde --Gallileo another round with several close together at the top, where the one named eeked out a place over several other worthy contestants Round 7:DT -Metternich. A good pick in a round with a lot of average picks filling up categories. Round 8:Barkeep Yin sun-sin. This was a barely one again. I actually had another wrote down before I changed it. Round 9:Barkeep-Suliman. A great pick at a crowded position Round 10:Coffee Warlord: Dunant Perhaps this is because Ihad him pegged as who Iwanted, that Isaw this a a great grab in a quickly narrowing field of suspects Round 11:Abe: Michelangelo. I thought it was a brilliant pick at the time and after looking at others picked that round it still apears to be so. There are a couple of my picks I thought about putting in there. but it would have only been a couple. |
Slooooooooooowwwwwwww
|
Did anyone PM Barkeep?
|
He hasn;t logged on since 1:00 this afternoon
|
Is there a "You Took Too Long" rule?
|
this draft has been fun but I think there were 2 to many catergories
|
I wish the rule was you can pick two of the same category except different eras.
i.e. Leader: George Washington Pre 20th Ronald Reagen 20th Both American. |
Quote:
I vote if he does not select by 900 am tomorrow he be passed and his pick go to the end of the round. |
I think we should just NFL Draft rule it. If it goes after a certain ;length of time, the draft goes on, but if you show back up, you can make your pick immediately.
|

I think if I were to run this on another board, I'd drop the two non-people categories and add one: thinker. That's it though. |
Quote:
Isn't it covered already by philosopher more or less? |
we didn't have a philosopher category
|
After starting the draft, I thought of thinker and explorer, but we had already gone too far to change it.
|
those would have been better than the non people categories Ithink.
|
I tried folding explorer into naval category, but I don't think that was a good pick. :/
|
Quote:
Sorry you disagree. I thought of Locke but decided since it was for Civil rights and not philosopher I liked Mills better. It certainly does not appear to be that egregious of a choice IMHO. |
I have BK's profile up and I refresh it every couple of hours in its tab.
|
what categories does he have left? can we get in a couple picks while waiting for him that way?
|
I like Barkeep I think work has him swamped however we might need to go NFL on him and keep passing him until he arrives.
|
I agree, it's been 22 hours since he last checked in. NFL him, and when he comes back, he can immediately make picks, but in the meantime, the draft continues.
|
eh - i say give him 24 hours - has anyone IM'd him?
|
i just sent him an IM - he's only been idle 26 minutes there so let's give him one last shot hmm?
|
American Heartland - US 20th Century
Never has so much food been grown per acre. |
Sorry about my tardiness. I simply hadn't had time to check the board. Sorry again, hate to have slowed things down for so long.
|
This Noop now, or the other direction?
|
I think it is Abe
|
12.9 btw
|
12.10 The Nile, Geographical Location, Egypt, 20th
|
20th? I certainly thought of the Nile, but couldn't justify it as a 20th Century pick.
|
Even in this century, its impact in the culture of the area has been significant.
|
12.11 Justinian I, Justice Minister, Turkey, Pre-20
|
far better as pre-20th but still a good pick - coulda gone with the canal or the aswan high dam imho as better 20th c picks
|
Just wait until I cross breed my amazon rain forest species into a team of flawless insect/animal soldiers.
