I hope I get to add ogres and giants and stuff to play DL. Let's see them run on me.

I feel bad about Matrix games, they are my favorite wargames company, i still play SPWAW and i'm amazed about the free updates that they keep releasing for that game after years.

I'm hoping I can set my quarterback up to stand behind the line of scrimmage and yell, "lightning bolt! lighnting bolt!"

Oh great...now we're going to get a thread about how SkyDog stole an "r".
:D |
It's not as funny now.

Can I have Lurker's "r"? That would make me Beer. :D

I think I want to rearrange my name so that I'll be JeBeerD... :D

Am I mistaken in what Gone Gold means? How can it have gone gold and still have stuff being added to it?

Because they are going to one up the entire software industry, and announce that they are now "going platinum"! :D |

They made a mistake. It has only Gone Bronze. I am still waiting for it to be in the Gone Silver stage. |

Theoretically, I think the game has Gone Talc.

The quarterback looks sickened by the entire play. |
Quote:
What are you guys talking about? The QB merely pump-faked 12 times before handing off on the sweep. No wonder the safeties are standing there flat-footed. |
Quote:
I don't think so. I think they are using basketball's version of the zone defense. It is customizable. |
Well, lets look at all of the problems I see here:
1) Safeties are stationary 2) #24 doesn't seem to have any desire to block downfield. 3) CB following WR across the field, away from the ball, when the RB has the ball and he has deep zone help. 4) #64 is sitting down, and I can't for the life of me see anyone who would have put him there. 5) The defensive lineman, #83?, is just standing there. 6) I don't see a beer tent. |
Nah, the Safties are designated spies on the QB. Since it doesn't look like the QB moved, why should they move? :D
|
Dola,
Maybe #30 stole #24's girlfriend, so he has no desire to block for him. Didn't they mention teammate cohesion as one of the included features? :D |
I was listening to the radio up here in the north country and was pretty shocked when I heard this on the radio. Apparently they've got a radio campaign up their sleeve.

The Box has Gone Gold, not the game... |

Why on earth would anyone purchase this game via download? You do realize you'd be missing out on the BOX ART, right? That's worth at least $10 of the price there! |
Now, granted that this guy has dug himself a huge hole with his dismissive comments about the text sim genre and this board, so I don't have a lot of sympathy for him...
...BUT this is exactly the kind of thing that should prove just how fucking hard it is to try and pull off a marriage of 3D graphics and a sports text-sim. I give this guy credit for having the balls to try it, and I don't know how much help he's had in creating this thing, but it doesn't shock me that it's taken him so long to get the game ready for release. As one who spent 5 years working on 3D football games, I speak from first-hand experience in telling you all how hard it is to make a 3D football game realistic enough to not draw all kinds of criticism on how it plays. Hell, look at Madden - they have 2 decades of making football games, and yet they still can't reproduce football close enough to satisfy all the critics. Pause a game of Madden at any point and I'm sure someone could find something on the screen that they could nit-pick. I don't know whether this guy has any idea the world of criticism he's opening himself up to by representing football in 3D. Once you get to that point, people will stop considering who the developer is, how hard it is or what the intent was with the game in the first place - if you provide a 3D representation of football, people will want it to look as realistic as possible in terms of behavior (and to a lesser extent graphics). With his limited resources, there's simply no way his game will look anywhere near Madden or any of the other current 3D football games - he simply won't have enough animations, enough sophistication in his animation engine and an AI that has been run through the wringer in terms of testing. Jim and Arlie and others have the luxury with text sims to present outcomes of plays (with maybe a minimal amount of in-play commentary telling you how the play is progressing). You don't get to "see" if the FS is taking a poor angle on a play or if your LG is standing around while a MLB blitzes right by him. Even if this guy had attempted to recreate the old XOR football game with the top-down view of the game with X's and O's as players it would've been a lot of work, but also a lot less prone to this level of criticism. Now, I know he's brought this criticism on with his attitude, and I think the comments here have been funny as hell, but it should also be a lesson to those that wish someone would just plug the FOF sim engine up with the Madden graphics engine and *PRESTO* you'd have the perfect football game. It's way, way harder than it sounds. As much as people like to harp on Madden, it's not Blitz - they're trying to mimic NFL play, and they still don't have a perfect result, and they've been doing it forever. |

You should have made this its own thread. This is ridiculously funny. |

And I can't blame them. Who in their right mind wants to sit down with their buddy for an hour or more and play out a game like this year's Super Bowl? Not the majority of the people who buy Madden, I'm sure. |
dawg, I agree with you. I still think back on my favorite football game (of any kind): Tom Landry Strategy Football (early-mid 90s). It had similar graphics and it was neat to watch the play you called (chosen from a playbook) unfold, including being able to play (or replay) it in vcr mode, like frame by frame. TLSF was more popular on the Mac because of the superior graphics and it beat anything FPS had until 98. I think there is a good market for this kind of game (but not this particular one) because I suspect many would love to see a text sim more visually. Look how excited people got seeing the 2D game in FM.

I was waiting for the "Car salesman" voice at the end to say really fast "Estimated release date March 1 2045, developers not responsible for delays in release due to added features, graphics enhancements, or threatened project cancellation, maximum football does not guarantee statistical accuracy or any resemblance to reality, your mileage may vary" |
