Galaxy: Yup. But when the salary cap floor came around, he had to start spending..
Classy move by the Canuck fans cheering their team off the ice despite the game 7 loss.. classier then some of our fans and classier than either team on the ice. |
I didn't know Zach Galfinakis played goalie for the B's!

*boos Gary Bettman* :D

It wouldn't be a trophy presentation without Booing Bettman.

Best goaltending performance in the playoffs ever? Gotta at least be in the conversation right? 2 shutouts in game 7's. 5 overall. Absolutely nuts.

You would think the owners would realize that the guy who represents and leads their sport (and money) is the most disliked guy and they would get a new guy or woman. |
Best save percentage, most saves made, yeah, I'd say at least close.
|
Yeah has to be...Bernie Parent had 4 shutouts in 74-75 with a 1.88 GAA. Thomas' save percentage was better.
|
Woo hoo!! Go New England!
|
First team ever to win three game sevens and win the cup. 25 Post season games. Just... wow.
|
Really NBC? You can't show it a little longer?
|
Does the NHL actually own the Stanley Cup or is it owned by a trust that has given the NHL the rights to award it?
|

Quote:
wikiepedia: The regulations set down by Lord Stanley call for two Trustees, who had the sole, joint right to govern the Cup and the conditions of its awarding until 1947, when they ceded control to the NHL. While the original regulations allow for a Trustee to resign, to date, all Cup Trustees have served until their deaths; a deceased Trustee is replaced by the surviving Trustee. To date, nine men have served as Trustees of the Stanley Cup: |
ugh. stupid Canucks fans over turned a vehicle which exploded, apparently. Sad to see the chuckleheads (not Canucks fans I should say, just looking for a reason to riot) try to ruin it..

Absolutely go to the parade. I went to the Steelers parades in 2006 and 2009, and you've probably gone to the Pats parades. But somethng different about the Pens one. Maybe because it was during the summer? Granted, you also have the C's. The Pens winning (on a Friday) and the weekend and parade on Monday are a fond memory I shared with my kids. The Steelers parades, I was working in town, I'd just cut out of work for a few hours. Pens parade, I took a personal day, drove to the trolley with the kids and went into town and had a BLAST. [I probably shared this in the 2009 version of this thread, but the best memory of the whole weekend happened that Sunday. Took the kids to the arena to get tshirts for the parade the following day. After buying some stuff in the team store, we are back outside near where the player parking is. Hundreds of people waiting around hoping to catch some of the players. About 2 minutes later, this gangly looking guy wearing baggy shorts, a tshirt, hat pulled really low and sandals comes walking out. Eventually some of the people on the level of the parking (we were up above) start cheering and clapping as they can see who it is. The guy takes his keys and beeps the remote, the trunk opens. Guy reaches into the trunk...pulls out the Conn Smythe. It's Malkin. Malkin is my son's favorite player, he's going nuts. Geno waving to everyone. Driving home I'm thinking....Who the hell keeps the Conn Smythe in his trunk?? I pictured him going to Best Buy earlier that morning to pick out a new flat screen, and when the Geek Squad tried to load it in his trunk, he said "Oh, here...let me move that trophy...it's just a little something I picked up Friday night"] |
Quote:
I find that to be awesome. |
LOL - yeah I'll be going to the parade. Be nice if it was Friday and not Saturday (which they're saying it probably will be).
I've been to all the others. Course those I was working right on the parade route...I'm not anymore, but that's cool. |

It was both one of the funniest and most surreal things I've seen. They were in Detroit Friday and I don't think came home until Saturday. I assume the trophy was in some overhead on the flight back. |
Congrats to Boston and the Bruins fans on FOFC. One thing I've enjoyed ever since Carolina won is seeing teams win and the joy that it brings to them and their fans. It always brings back good memories of 2006 for me. :D
Good to see a pair of good ex-Canes win, as well: Recchi gets another one and Seidenberg gets his first. |

I'm really happy for those hardcore bruin fans in boston. They're a smaller, more distinct group, maybe a little more working class on the whole than the average boston sports fan. You can spot them too, the guys who watched the Bruins in bars and wore bruins' jerseys over the last few decades when the B's were boston's fat ugly irrelevant younger stepson. Those guys are cool and they're living it up now.
|
At the Revolution game last night, they kept breaking in with scoring updates for the Bruins. I'm pretty sure there was more cheering for the Bruins at Gillette last night than there was for the Revs :)

Damned if I know. I stole it off some facebook group page for like "Bruins Stanley Cup Champs." There's a couple guys (notably I think Shawn Thornton) who live in downtown Boston, so this is likely a party at one of their places...I assume with a bunch of players, because if I'd just won that thing I wouldn't be ready for people to start taking it more than an arm's length from me yet. |
Quote:
There is a NHL rep that is with the Cup at all times. |
Quote:
Oh I assumed that. I just meant that if I'd sweated through 25 playoff games to win that thing as a player I wouldn't be ready after less than 24 hours for one of my fellow players to remove it from my presence. I'd want to be everywhere with it for at least the 24 hours and just like...celebrate. |
Quote:
That'd be a fun job. |
I forgot to say thanks to the Bruins for shutting up these stupid Canuck fans that plague our streets here. I hope I don't have to see another stupid car flag for awhile, or a lame Sedin jersey worn by some rude, 68 year-old retiree.
It's Black and Gold day at my wife's Costco today. Everyone is wearing Boston's colors, and one of the guys bought some T-Shirts that he's handing out. My wife wore one of my Wings shirts, but I'm sure that'll piss off Canuck fans too. |
Quote:
Why is a Seattle area Costco having a black and gold day? |
That's pretty funny Schmidty!
|
Nice, Shmidty!
One of the greeters/receipt checkers at my local Costco is a huge Canucks' fan...can't wait to stop in to see how he's doing now. **Note: How do I know about this guy's allegiance to the Canucks? No, I don't work there nor am I there more than once, maybe twice, a month. And, no, I don't know him personally. You see, this guy stopped on my way into Costco one day and instead of just handing me a flyer and saying "good morning" he says "they suck". Not really paying attention (I'm usually focused on my trips to Costco as that is the only way to get out of there without buying way too much shit) I say "pardon" and he points down to my Oilers' t-shirt and repeats himself. He's an older guy so I assume he's likely a Leafs or Habs fan and just toss out the old "yeah, it's been a tough couple of years" line and start walking away when he hollers "the Canucks are going to win the cup" and then it all makes sense. D-bag Canucks' fans are the only ones I know that have the nerve to tell you your team sucks, to your face, in your town. If you don't have anything nice to say, just hand me my flyer and shut the fuck up. |

We're an hour and a half away from Seattle and don't consider ourselves to even be close to a Seattle-area city. We're about 35-40 minutes away from Vancouver, so it's almost like we're an unofficial Canadian territory. Before I moved here, I never had an issue with Canadians at all. Once I got here, I quickly realized that BC residents are generally the most rude, annoying and self-important people we deal with. Oh, and they can't drive at all. My Canadian hate isn't all encompassing - It only extends to British Columbians. |

Sak do you know when that started, because I don't believe it's always been that way. 1991, Pens first Cup, the Cup sank to the bottom of Mario's pool. Additionally, it is rumored that somehow, one of the rings of names came off the Cup (possible from the pool?). Phil Bourque allegedly fixed it, but before doing so, etched "old 29er was here" underneath where the band would be replaced with a flat head screwdriver. |

I think they think the rest of Canada can't see or hear them on the other side of the Rockies...but we can, we just choose to ignore them! |

But that's what I don't get. Okay, maybe you're not a Seattle-area Costco, but you're certainly a Canuck territory Constco. So why the black and gold day? Just seems weird. That would be like a store out here doing a Red Sox colors day the day after they beat the Angels in the playoffs. I mean, no business around is nuts like that. So your wife's store's decision makes little sense to me. I am guessing there are far, far more Canucks fans that go to her store than there are B's fans. |
As an Oilers fan, allow me to say....THANK YOU BRUINS!!!!!!!
|
Quote:
You're really overthinking this. Canadians here generally treat people here like crap, especially those that work in retail. A lot of people are sick of all of the Canucks stuff because, regardless of how close we are to Canada, 90% of the people here aren't Canuck (or hockey) fans. So a few people at Costco jokingly and unofficially came up with Black and Gold day. It's just a silly little thing. I'm sure no one is going to take it too far and get into trouble. |
Everyone was all wrong - a Canuck CAN score on the road!
|
Quote:
Bravo. Well done! |
