boo ya :p

i'm getting so much PT as a starter this is the 1st time i've needed to set my training to "none" in order to get the maximum amount of stamina back in time for the next game. i'm also 300 xp away from leveling up a 2nd time so far this season. we've played 2 games - defense has allowed 0 pts so far. pretty impressive. i guess there's a role for everybody, some want to be prime time players, i'm sure there's others don't have a prob chipping in on a more minor, infrequent level. different strokes as they say. one isn't any more of a team player than the next. some want to help the team by being involved in as many plays as possible, others want to help the team by allowing the better players to do their thing. no one has to be the bad guy for wanting to do more, no one is essentially the hero for accepting a lesser role. communication is the only necessary element.

My failure with Cloud last year was not getting him more special teams action - had I done so and Cloud had gotten closer to 30 plays a game, his development would have been on par with the rest of the guys on the team.

My team's (well, mostly me with numbers provided by my guys) done some analysis this season and 30 plays a game from a non-boosted guy gets you more experience over the course of a season than 50+ plays a game from a boosted guy. (a) players get more XP/play at lower levels and (b) players gain more XP from their first play than their second, more XP from their tenth play than their thirtieth, etc. At least this season, they've significantly balanced out (in a good way imo) the per game XP gain.

Obviously, maximal player development (XP) is via 40+ plays, unboosted...but that's not feasible for many teams if you also want to win.

Thanks, accepted. I can intensely train until next level up. :)

thesloppy 05-01-2008 05:07 PM

Hmmm...

I had a lvl 10 FS that was starting, but he was seeing less snaps than both of his backups. Looking at the depth chart I noticed that one of my backups was catching double duty at backup CB and SS, and that he saw a lot more action in terms of plays and tackles. Our depth sucks at CB, so dude was mopping up in relief and spending a lot more time on the field than both of the starting safeties.

Getting a little wily, I asked my coach to take my guy out of the starting role at FS, and let me play backup at FS, SS, and 3rd on the CB depth chart....he agreed, but with me at 4th on the CB depth chart, rather than 3rd. My backup FS is only a level below me, so the dropoff wasn't that great at my position, while my guy is a big stepup over the previous backups, and the hope is that I'd actually end up on the field more.

The result? Today I led the team in plays and tackles. Woohoo!

Icy 05-02-2008 04:01 AM

New energy changes added today, the team owners can play the backups now if winning by X in the Yth quarter, or playing the starters always on third down situations, or in the last X minutes of the game etc.

damnMikeBrown 05-02-2008 10:22 AM

I have some players that I'm looking to trade. They're all fine, no big issues, they just want to play (can't blame them).

K Ronnie Clutch lvl10
DE Glenn Kendrick lvl9
C Iron Joe lvl 7

Kendrick is starting, but being played out of position at DE. He'd rather actually use his pass rush abilities instead of clogging the middle..go figure...

Both of those guys are active and want to play.
I also have a semi-active guy that logs in every 7 days or so that I don't need. Now that I look, it's bee 13 days for him now. . . anyway...

LB Jim Solo lvl6

I'm looking for human active guys. A like leveled DT would be ideal. 2nd choice would be a LB. Really prefer the DT though. If they are lvl5 or higher they'd start. Could use very young HB or CB's that just want special teams/backup time.

Cheesehead Craig 05-02-2008 11:49 AM

Good game from you too, you have been the toughest opponent for us this season.

I understand about the energy settings as it happened to me the game before this one, all my backups, including the backup QB played since the end of the 1st Q. We got the win anyway, but it could have been a huge score difference if not because that mistake. It was even worse for me, as i had my punter as kicker backup and kicker as punter backup, so the punter kicked 7 field goals (at least he managed to make 3 from those 7).

I learned from it and found the perfect settings for today game against you.

I have to say, having an OC/DC/GM has helped a lot as I am working on keeping the finances proper, keeping everyone happy and recruiting new talent with the GM.

The cool thing, having an OC/DC allows a multiple view of the other team. It has translated into a 3 game winning streak now that they have a handle on things.

I don't think I'm too the point where I can give up control yet...having too much fun setting up every game since it's my team's first season. I will say though once i get there I have a ton of quality candidates on my team. Several guys have emailed me with their scouting reports of our next opponents offense/defense. I'd probably give up offense first when the time comes, I prefer defense anyway.

So if you give a GM control, you can still tweak things if needed? That's cool. I know one possible GM would be good at it, but he's not always on every couple of days.

It only works because we have a pretty good group of guys all around. The OC and I(DC) don't need to have the final say on everything and the GM and Macro work very well together. I could see the situation being a nightmare with guys that need to always be right.

It's working for us, though. I've had a lot of fun running the defense and we've now assembled a group of guys that are all active and happy with their roles. I think it's really helped to post every tactical decision we make so the guys aen't left in limbo.

For any fellow Silverbacks players, I have put together a rough Access database of our stats for this season.

http://web.aanet.com.au/21C/Grand_Junction.zip

I have a couple of queries in there, which I will add to, and eventually use this to make a few web pages for our team - I hate that I can't see season stats for just our team. I'll do more with it soon but it's getting very late here. I thought somebody might like to play around with it for now.

I plan on doing the same for the Season 1 stats. I believe that all of the game logs still exist but the mods haven't created a front end to access them yet.

They played against a team that started a bunch of low level players. Still expect a tough game from them because they have played well against some of the better teams in the league. I read in the forums that he boosted his team early in the season and that's why he is doing so well. I'm not an owner so I don't know what that means. :)

ColtCrazy 05-08-2008 11:29 PM

Well, the Lexington Lynx won their 5th straight today, a big 28-0 win over a fairly decent 3-3 team in the conference. Now at 5-2, we are just a game out of first...a far cry from the 0-2 and 15th place spot we were in 10 days ago.

If anyone is making a low level CB or WR anytime soon, I have a spot for you. We are a little thin at CB and I have 2 inactives at WR and will need someone soon I think (and they'll play a lot as a 3rd option if they are decently leveled...and at the worst, a 4th option with some play time)

Thanks. Can't get enough of this game. My team is awesome, great bunch of guys.

Tasan 05-09-2008 01:04 AM

Silverbacks have lost a few players recently. I'm trying to keep this as an FOFC-only team, but that's getting more and more difficult as people continue to leave.

Right now we need backups at QB, DE, and DT. Remember, a backup role could eventually lead to starter. Our current #2 WR was the #4 WR at one point, and our current QB started off as the backup.

Even if anyone wants to create a minimum level guy, I'd rather have that than a CPU player.

Yeah, I am feeling your pain, I guess in hindsight a longer contract would have been best, but I am losing players in the middle of the season with a great run happening and a chance at the playoffs in the Canadian Pro West...

Yeah, we've got a lot of guys that seem to think testing the FA market is the way to go. Well, that and a couple inactives but we've slowly moved them out.

I, again, would like to pimp here for a couple of positions:

Defensive end- You'll likely be our top back-up

Wide receiver- You'll get playing time for sure

Offensive tackle- Again, you'll likely be our top back-up.

It's a great team with several faces from here and, as my owner says, a great shot at the Pro-League playoffs. I'm actually now up to three guys on this team as my level 14 linebacker, level 6 offensive tackle, and newly made level 4 cornerback look to help bring home some hardware. Join up, it's good times.

BreizhManu 05-09-2008 09:35 AM

BTW QB Manuel Martin http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=66608 will be available on day 1 of season 3, I'm currently stuck on an abandoned shitty team... So if anyone needs a decent QB by that time.

I didn't notice anything particularly odd about my QB's energy. He did have one clunker of a game, but nothing odd like that. He just threw lots of short passes that day and didn't move the ball very well.

I don't think it affected your energy at the end of the game, just your in-game stamina. I really don't know, though. It is so hard to keep up with the forums over there and I'm really not sure why. The system they use is just different enough from vbb/phpbb that it's a pain.

Very basic stats page for the Silverbacks. It has all of the stats for each category from season 2 together on one page.

I have 6 guys at the moment.

The best is my original, and most of the rest are made simply as backups on my owned team.

Level 11 LB: Colin Rhys (Berlin Blitzkrieg)
Level 7 DE: Jon Hand (Lexington Lynx)
Level 7 CB: Eugene Daniel (Lexington Lynx)
Level 4 CB: Xavier Jackson (Albuquerque Isotopes)
Level 2 RB: Albert Bentley (Lexington Lynx)
Level 2 FB: Rodney Culver (Lexington Lynx)

Just added a player game log page for the defense but I haven't got it linked to any other page just yet. For now you will need to add the player position and name with ".htm" following this link
Directory Listing Denied

Here's an example (note the spaces)
CB Richard Southwell

Sorry about the links above. The board automatically converted them - you can see what I meant when you hover over them.

I'll try and get them included into the other pages. For now I was just trying to see if I could do it automatically.

That is pretty cool. Is that your work?

I'm just waiting for someone to make a game log viewer mod. Something where you can highlight just the plays that your player is on the field for.

Great work 21C and lordscarlet.

21C 05-10-2008 12:53 AM

OK, I've got player logs for the following stats (subdirectories)
Passing
Rushing
Receiving
Kicking
Punting
Returns
OLine
Defense

Same setup as before. Still working on getting the links on a page.

Couple of examples:
QB Randall McManus
HB Johnny Thunder

OT Funyun Johnson

OK player links are now available from the main team pages.

I guess he didn't stick around to answer - but yeah, that's his.

We have a level 10 OT:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/player...ayer_id=104423

And a level 7 FB:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/player...ayer_id=102099

Both are active (and signed long term), but not getting much PT. We are looking for a level 11+ LB or CB. If anyone has some options, PM me:

I'm looking for some help to track down some season 1 games for the Silverbacks. I've managed to get the box scores for all of our games except two:
4/4 Followed Springfield, preceded LA (week 12?)
4/14 1st playoff game

I managed to get all of the other games from the replays in this thread but nobody posted any for those. It is a bit of a longshot but worth a try. It would be nice to flesh out our history.

21C 05-12-2008 03:20 AM

I think I found the 4/4 game - looks like it was Tucson. Luckily the game ids were fairly sequential. No luck on the playoff game.

I need to write some pbp parsing code. :(

Need one that breaks it down like the old FBPro parsers that showed # run plays, pass plays, long, short, medium, right, left.. etc etc

Mustang 05-13-2008 12:25 PM

dola

suggestion I made over on the forums. Free Agency is one of the most maddening (and necessary) aspects of the game. There is no rhyme or reason to offers or who wants what.

Would be nice if players had certain items to strive for that they could select and, at the end, receive a set # of XP points.

Things like -

Be a backup for 1 season
Play a season in Asia
Attain 40 Strength
Rush for 1,000 yards
Play 3 Years on same team

Also, if team owners could have a set # of XP points that they could dish out to reward active owners, mvps, incentives, etc.

I think if both were combined together, it would help in recruiting FA's and give some idea of what a players motivations are rather than just the constant hit and miss.

"Hey, I see you have a goal of playing on a playoff team in Asia, we've been in the playoffs the last 3 seasons so, we can help each other, here is a contract offer"

Agreed. Although, with all of the talk in the Solecismic thread I wonder if its worth my time. :)

We shall see. :) There are other things I could spend my time on, though. This is really something the developers (who are raking in the dough) should be working on.
