I will try that next game and see how it goes. But I like to be active, especially around deadline time as you can probably tell. :)

I DVR games and watch them. I try to watch every EPL, MLS, and Champions League game. I will admit that I am obsessed.

claphamsa 09-24-2009 03:25 PM

oh, i dont have a DVR :( too cheap! go BARCA!!!!

The Jackal 09-24-2009 05:17 PM

Good for you, GE. I try to watch as much EPL and Champions as possible, as well as Serie A, but I just can't watch the MLS very often.

claphamsa 09-24-2009 05:18 PM

MLS sucks balls

Yes, this thread will eclipse Maximum Football. So it is written ...

Danny 10-23-2009 08:48 PM

I am not upset and don't need to vent, but I will help Hoops reach his goal for this thread by doing my part :)

hoopsguy 10-25-2009 06:58 PM

How can you not need to vent after being a senseless Night 1 kill? I mean, you were set up to take heat the following day ... they totally should have left you alive to talk your way out of the mess! And you had residual bitterness from bad lynches the game before. I would suggest that it was a TERRIBLE decision to night kill you and totally worth a good amount of venting on your part!

That's all I've got on your behalf. Hopefully you can take this and run with it going forward.

I'm actually getting tired of you getting killed every first or second day. The game is better when you're in the game.

Then again, if you live past day two, we know you're a wolf. ;)

hoopsguy 11-02-2009 11:01 PM

Darn, Schmidty has me figured out. I'm going to have to night-kill myself as a wolf now to throw the villagers off the scent.

Wait, that doesn't make any sense ...

no, but its funny :)

Passacaglia 11-03-2009 01:32 PM

I've always wanted to make a game where the wolves would have motivation to night-kill one of their own. I had something pretty close to that in "Athens and Sparta" but that game was whacked in other ways. Probably the closest I could get to working that in, though.

Autumn 11-03-2009 01:48 PM

It could just be a game with no role reveal upon death. That would give the wolves possible reasons to kill one of their own. I've never quite understood how the game would operate without a reveal though.

I still don't see how it would make sense even with no role reveal. What would be the point of killing off one of your numbers when its not hiding a voting record or something along those lines because of no role reveals.

Well presumably people would take a nightkill as proof of villager-ness. That might lend credence to another wolf somehow or other. For example a wolf fakes as a seer and then gets nightkilled, having "scanned" another wolf. I don't know.

Actually this would probably be the strategy I would use in this type of game. Kill all of my fellow wolves off ASAP (including myself) and then not have to deal with playing in a game that has no role reveals :D

In Animal Farm (probably the most well known no-reveal WW game we've had here), I was a bad guy that accidentally killed off another bad guy at night during it.

yup, was tried once and was a terrible concept.

Besides, wolves kill other wolves all the time, just not at night.

IIRC That tactic was pioneered when having just converted St. Cronin in the tombstone game, Hoops, BK, and myself lead a lynch mob against him.

Good times.

hoopsguy 11-03-2009 02:53 PM

Eh, I sold out both Blade and AE when they screwed up in thread back in BK's Treasure Hunt (I) game before that. Heck, I gunned for Blade on D2, picking up where I had started as a villager before being converted D1, all the way back in X-Com which was something like WW X.

And I'm sure others did it before me. Wolves have been screwing other wolves in thread forever.

But Tombstone was damn fun ... would have been even better if I had launched the plan I had with BK that involved shooting you and taking over your top-dog wolf spot. Wolf day-killing wolf, now that would have been pretty epic. But I wimped out.

PurdueBrad 11-03-2009 03:03 PM

I think it is only appropriate that Hoops died in day 1 of a game that I'm running. All is right with the world.

RendeR 11-03-2009 09:02 PM

I have to say I feel kind of honored that they took me out so early. makes me feel respected to be taken out right after Hoopster.

High five!

RendeR 11-10-2009 08:50 PM

Night 2 then night 1?? Holy shit people why are you wasting kills on ME?

Thought I was coming back to play after staying out of it for awhile, but all I get is this =)

YOU BASTARDS!

Lathum 11-11-2009 08:22 PM

why the fuck do people use these abilities on day 2 when they are completely taking shots in the dark and are just as likely to kill a villager with a role as they are a wolf.

Jesus Christ J23, you had 2 votes on you, would have made a lot more sense to reveal, I guess screwing the village even more is better then dying with your power unused...

You gave the wolves a huge leg up for no reason, there were about 10 things you could have done better then closing your eyes and taking a shot.

I know there is stuff you are still learning, but man, just not a good move.

Danny 11-11-2009 08:23 PM

It appears he did not understand his role and didn't realize he would be removed from the game as well.

Lathum 11-11-2009 08:27 PM

Even then it is a poor move.

You have just a big a chance to hit on the seer, bodyguard, etc...then a wolf.

With that role you wait until the seer ID's a wolf and goes for a 2-1 or if the seer role is countered you settle things right there.

Or you reveal your role and are semi-trusted without using the ability or taking the risk.

Or you take it to the grave and don't screw the villagers.

KWhit 11-11-2009 08:42 PM

I'm here and frustrated.

Alan T 11-11-2009 08:46 PM

I haven't been following the game because I've been slammed with work, but now you all make me want to see what just happened!

Chief Rum 11-11-2009 09:30 PM

Poor J23. I have made some phenomenally bad calls before, and that's when I was experienced. He's still learning. I give him credit for taking a shot. I would rather guy take chances than sit on his ability and let it go to waste. Was there a better way to use it today? Obviously. But I like that he was willing to take the chance.

I agree in most cases, but when the odds are you are going to kill 2 villagers including yourself I think it is the wrong move.

Especially in this case. Day 2 and limited info, he could have just revealed and likely would have lived, he only had 2 votes on him.

I know I came off harsh, but it is just frustrating.

KWhit 11-11-2009 09:41 PM

Oh, I completely understand, and I agree with you, not a smart move at this point. I'm not so much for commending him for this specific move, but for playing the game aggressively, which, IMO, makes the game that more interesting to follow along and play in.

I couldn't have revealed, or power goes away. Though I suppose I could have revealed and lost the power. It was my fault for playing when I got swamped w/ work, and thus didn't re-read my power. I fly out of town tomorrow AM and as a result have a ton of work that had to get done by today. As it was, I was trying to keep involved tonight in class on my cell phone, so it was not ideal. Not trying to make it an excuse, just explaining what happened. Hopefully it doesn't ruin the game for everyone else (CR included).
