Okay this is nuts! This thread has half as many views as the reference thread. This thread has to win some type of award or something.

perezsuarez 02-23-2006 11:13 AM

This is my first post since two years but I have been following this forum and Matrix Max FB forum. I could not have laughed more yesterday with the posts in here.

I will try Max FB, I will try NFL HC (if both are ever available) but I donīt believe any football game will beat FOF, simply the best. While everyone at Matrix was cutting their veins because the game was not out I was playing FOF and winning back to back FOF championships.

druez 02-23-2006 11:18 AM

On a serious note, Mrs. Winter needs some help. She reminds me of Angie Stallings. In fact David reminds me of Joe. She comes sweeping in when everyone starts bashing the crap out of him.

Now my wife, she simply tries to ignore the fool i make of myself on the internet. She sure as heck isn't going to blindly defend me when I'm being an asshole/troll.

Wintervalley Software and Joe Stallings Present ----- Total Pro Maxium Tournament Football without the Option Dreams.

Now that would be a classic.

Wow! This game even caused long time lurkers to start posting after two years. You must post more often sir. I don't want to see you get banned for one wrong word. :p

This thread is missing an Antmeister parody song. Of course, perhaps he's holding it back for the release... :D

Please post your impressions (assuming it's ever released). I was going to buy it, but now? No way.

DeftRevisited 02-23-2006 11:28 AM

I also posted for the first time in two years mostly because TCY soured me that FOF was going toward a no fun football Tamagotchi. I don't think anyone is expecting MaxFB to be an upgrade to FBPro98 or have the depth of FOF. But MaxFB gives those of us who want a coaches game a hope, at least better than Division Rivals.

why can't they just say "it'll be released in a week", and if it's ready by monday then at least they can surprise their "customers" (quotation marks cuz i don't think anyone is gonna be buying this)? why continually set your customers up for disappointment. if i was a developer i'd always give my followers the worst-case scenario and then beat that date by a wide margin.

we call that "under promise and over deliver" around here :)

They seem to have it the other way around though: "over promise and under deliver?" :D

KWhit, I will let you know but believe me I rather keep reading the forums with all the jokes than getting the game. It has been so much fun. Every time they delay the game another day it means more jokes and more fun to me.

As I said before I am curious about the game, I mean something that took 5 years to develop is a MUST PLAY game however I do not believe anyone will reach the standars of Jim and FOF. No pair of games have I enjoyed more than FOF and TCY.

We're basically looking at each build and testing it to see if it's "the one". As soon as we're sure of that, we'll plan on a release the next day. Yesterday's build was a big step forward but needed a bit more work, so right now the earliest release would be Friday if today's build checks out. We may decide to play it safe even if today's build looks good and plan on a Monday release so that we can give it extra testing time over the weekend. So, day by day, but with each day the probability of that build being final increases.

Regards,

- Erik

So my strategy should be...to work my ass off around the house this weekend. Thus, making my financial minister very happy..and then take a couple days off during the day next week. Most excellant!

I still am stunned that they will not release a demo of the game for folks to try first before buying.

For a company even the size of Matrix Games, a demo would show whatever proposed strengths the game has, as well as (to the experienced sports sim fans) the obvious flaws and shortcomings. For the beta project to NOT be using a licensed installer during the beta process is tantamount to bad alpha/beta testing. You have to test your installer LONG before the game is to be released, so any configuration issues are resolved.

Up to this point, I was like a few people believing the problem was mostly Winters' fault, and Matrix having to clean up what they were brought. (Still strong possibility) But I believe that Matrix was not prepared for a product like this, since their previous experience with PureSim Baseball was so smooth, and Sullivan knows his coding very well, and brought a complete project to Matrix's stable.

But for testing to continue for what is presented as simple fixes after gold standard is announced, for a process that should have been tested all along during the beta session, is Matrix Games' fault. There can be no excuse for this kind of slipshod testing this late in the proposed game release.

I will definitely be watching this thru the weekend to see if they can get the fires put out.

This will be part of Updates. You can improve every game so MF is never like all other games finished.

Thinks. Target. These are not words that indicate a certainty. I'm still not holding my breath. And part of updates? No, you mean, part of patching because the programmer goofed off for a year without adding anything of value to the game. Honestly it sounds to me like he's half-assing it and relying on the third party developers to do most of the dirty work for him.

Quote:
Here i am not really surprised when you look at all the bashing , prejudicies and assumptions based on rumors and false "facts".

When you read many posts you have to think that all these users have invested money in this project and want now a return. Many of these suggegstions did not realize that there is a difference between what he can do and what is (at the moment) impossible. But the simple fact is DW is the developer and decides how this game will look. The user has right to achieve correct informations so he can decide if he wants this game but he can claim nothing more. Even when DW sas now MF will never released you can claim nothing. On the other said DW can not claim that you like his game. It is only offer.

I'm sorry, but a guy who publically whines about quitting a project he's been working on for four or five YEARS, whatever the exact amount is, a few WEEKS before the alleged release date strikes me as someone who doesn't have the commitment or the stomach for the business.

Criticism is a natural part of any business world and if he's so thin-skinned he can't recognize that he deserves a lot of flak for his repeated delays, pathetic add-on features after having an entire year to add a career mode (the reason the last delay was given for), then he has absolutely no business being an independent developer and should contribute what talents he might have to a larger corporation, where he has a much smaller audience to deal with.

But oh wait, that'd mean he'd have to meet deadlines in a timely fashion, wouldn't he?

This kid's got a lot of growing up to do and I strongly believe he's going to face an even more powerful firestorm of criticism when the game comes out than what he's faced now. When you've taken this long to work on a project and the game feels incomplete, the sim engine is busted, or there's major, major bugs, etc... whatever the problems are, you're going to get a hell of a lot more heat for it.

Maybe he'll prove me wrong and the product will actually turn out decent. Maybe he'll stop being so defensive and condemning of those who offer critiques of his game.

But right now, from where I stand, there's a better chance of my hooking up a threesome with Amy Lee and Kirsten Dunst than either of those things happening.

What about Football Mogul? Is it alright? Can you actually play games like FOF, or is it just the financial/GM role you fill.

In any case, I hope that FOF comes out with a new version soon. Something more customizable. I thought the game engine was very good, or at least good enough for Arlie(?) to consider other improvements.

BTW, is Skydog Arlie? I haven't seen him post in a while.

A Breeze divided against itself cannot exist.

We don't have a guy named FroznMonkey as well do we?

Coffee Warlord 02-23-2006 03:26 PM

Heh, finally went over. I think we need an Erik Flamebeard to go alongside Dean.

I think Dean is going for the Wigfecta over at Matrix.

Go Dean Go!

Bee 02-23-2006 03:41 PM

ROFL...more UIC from the Maximus Board.

Two words: replay value.

A licensed game becomes outdated within a year because names change. Hence the reason why companies make whole new games every year.

MF will be as good of a game 5 years from now as it is today. Try saying that about Madden 2001 now.

Plus there's the customizability of MF, different rules available, etc.

kcchief19 02-23-2006 03:41 PM

Is that the real FranklinNoble or an impersonator? It seems like him, since it's a parrot post and offers nothing of value. If so, that message forum is starting to turn into The FOFC Boneyard. We just need mrs skippy to wander in with a rant and Happy29 to meltdown and that board will be an FOFC clone, just not built around an actual piece of software.

Ben E Lou 02-23-2006 03:44 PM

Dean got a thread closed.

Bee 02-23-2006 03:47 PM

Dean Houston is jbmagic on steroids. :D

JeeberD 02-23-2006 03:48 PM

I almost feel sorry for Erik, HA's playing him like a yoyo...

Well, a combination. Without the jb-style whining, that thread is probably still open.

I can't believe he has 21 posts in this short a time, with the mod there, and he hasn't been banned, suspended, or even chastised.

The second proposed rule is that neither team can use hands open or closed to provide leverage against the face mask of an opponent.

The league also clarified the no yards rule on punts - that the receiving team player is protected by a five-yard zone from where the ball first hits ground.

Do you ever get the feeling that some people are expecting a lot deeper game than the one being produced?

Bee 02-23-2006 04:00 PM

There's more people on their board now than were there the night it was supposed to be released. I guess Dean Houston is more popular than MF. :D

Well the 5 yard zone rule could conflict with the teleport ability, so I could see that delaying the release if it's added.

JPhillips 02-23-2006 04:04 PM

I almost feel bad for the guys offering to help Dean Houston understand the CFL.

To answer your question about drafts. The CFL can draft players through Canadian Universities or American Universities as well. Most players in the NFL who did not make the cut, have the option of playing the CFL for playing time and get some football experience.

A player like Casey Printers who was the quaterback for the British Columbia Lions signed with the Kansas City Chiefs for three-years. Players like Casey get recognized quickly because he played in the CFL and that helped him get into the NFL.

Any more questions drop a line....

But it does make for comedic gold!

Anthony 02-23-2006 04:06 PM

i swear, it's addictive.

and for the record, jbmagic is a total farce. you can so easily keep up that act forever.

Bee 02-23-2006 04:11 PM

I'm really hoping to see CFL FAN 7 come back to help answer some of Dean Houston's questions. :D

Try looking up the word 'tolerance' in a dictionary.

other than being able to find useless old posts rather quickly you really haven't contributed to FOFC much, so you're a good candidate for a banning. that ice underneath you, is it me or is it slowly cracking?

i'd tread carefully or you'll be feeding Suicane bon-bons in your own private clubhouse in no time.
