I'm sorry what?
Look at post 497 - I chose the Warrior from Gauntlet |
Yep, I see that now. My bad.
Corbes is up. I have a pick from him, so I'll give him about a half hour to see if he drops by to do it himself. |
OK, I'll makle Corbes' pick for him, using the list he sent.
This is actually an excellent pick, someone I was eying for my next choice. A steal in round five, no doubt. Corbes pick is the Centipede |
Sigh . . . the centipede was my third choice for every pick since round 2. I just never would pull the trigger on it. I seem to have an aversion to picking characters from games at which I sucked. Great pickup in round 5.
|
Great; my first pick was going to be the Centipede, then my second choice would have been the warrior :(
|
So due to the fact that the two priorities I had have been taken, I am going to take a character I would have taken a little later, just so I know I at least get him:
The Buccaneer (Pirates! Series) Microprose made some of the best games of the '80s, and, as our own Bucc would agree, this was quite possibly the best of them. Reputations were made, alliances forged and broken, damsels were destressed, and booty was looted. Good times, and your character was at the heart of it all. One of my top 2 or 3 games of all time, and 15 years later, it still has not been topped. |
Target Practice sent in a pick... he takes:
Gordon Freeman from Half Life |
EagleEye also sent a pick... he takes:
Sephiroth (Final Fantasy badass) Calis is up. |
Well I've gone back and forth on this pick a bunch. I finally decided on selecting the greatest Final Fantasy villain, and one of the most memorable in the history of gaming. The man who took evil laughter to a whole new level...
Kefka Final Fantasy VI "I will destroy everything! I will create a monument to non-existence!" -Kefka Lines like this one make it clear why he is one of the all-time greats. He was not just a great villain, but also a great philosopher. The guy was so horribly over the top evil and cheezy you couldn't help but love him. Couple that with the tradition of horrible dialogue in FF games and you have one of the all-time greats. Hate having to be the cause of back to back Final Fantasy picks in the draft, but I'm going to have to do it. For the most part I'm not a big FF fan, and think it's one of the more overrated series in gaming, but I really did enjoy FF6. Thought it had great characters something which the other games lacked. The whole thing just clicked for me. |
Keep the ball rolling . . .
With this pick, I select Atrus (Myst). Myst was/is an amazing/addictive game. Atrus is the character who, in effect, created the world of the game. I think he deserves to go in the top half of the draft. |
Desnudo is on the clock.

Finally! Now someone just needs to pick JC Denton and this thread may be saved after all. |
I love the Kefka pick.
BWAHAHAHA! |
Women want to be with him and men want to be him:
Lu Bu, Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Dynasty Tactics |
I'm not sure if any Koei character can be chosen - the games are based on true Chinese History - isn't it assumed that Lu Bu actually existed in history?
|
The key is based on. It was a novel (re: story) written 600 years ago about events that happened 1800 years ago.
Edit: Never mind, I don't even want to argue the point, I withdraw my selection and pick: J.C Denton, Deus Ex |
Hmm... anyone have an opinion on that one? I can't say I'm familiar with Lu Bu.
|
I'm just questioning - I like the pick - he was a great character - I just think it rides the edge of breaking the rule - since all Koei games are based on real Chinese history.
But I hear ya - it is based. Edit: I would have accepted it. |
If it's disputed, I'm not going to argue in my favor, it's easier to simply withdraw and pick someone else, since there are plenty.
|
OK, for my pick, I select: Lu Bu, from Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Dynasty Tactics
(No, just kidding. Give me a few minutes to think of a pick.) |
Want some suggestions?
|
Time to fill out the team with a couple of solid depth guys.
For the first pick, I'm going with someone who's not a big surprise. I won't get any creativity points, but given how much impact this guy and his games have had on the computer game industry, I'm surprised he's still here. Don't get me wrong, Leisure Suit Larry and Roger Wilco were great, but without this guy, they don't even exist. With my fifth pick, I select Sir Graham from the King's Quest series. Next up, another semi-derivative pick. What can I say, all my clever picks for this round (Centipede, Gauntlet, and Pikachu) were snapped up before my turn came. So I'll save the sleeper picks for next round and go with the best available player. He's young, he's quick, he made a ton of cash back in the arcade days. And if nothing else, he assures me of a solid rivalry with cthomer5000. With the first pick of the sixth round, I take Donkey Kong Jr. |
Sir Graham was definitely on my radar, but I went with Larry instead. Then I felt like I had my allotment of Sierra characters.
He was an original. A very solid pick. And, as a side note, where do you think Ken and Roberta Williams stand in the pantheon of game developers? |
I've got a lot of standout individualists, but I need someone to bring it all together. A mastermind if you will.
Carmen San Diego, Where in the World/Time is? series If you were of a certain age and your school had computers, they actually let you play this game as part of Geography lessons. The series has since expanded to Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego and there is at least one cartoon spinoff that I'm aware of. They're still selling the original ~20 years later. |
Carmen Sandiego... I loved the pick when you first PMed it to me, and I love it now. Very very solid.
|
Thanks Mr. Leafs. The only question is, will it play with an adult audience?
|
Carmen Sandiego -- that's brilliant beyond comprehension.
That instantly became my favorite pick in the draft. |
We will see...
I do have a pick for albio, but let's see if he shows up. |
dola-
Don't forget the TV game show on PBS... |

|
FYI - I was in the audience for one episode of Where in the world is Carmen Santiago on PBS.
|
I think picking up Carmen Sandiago at this point is a very shrewd pick.
|
I'm here, and I am debating between the pick I sent ML and two others. I'll let you know in a couple of minutes
|
I'll stick with what I sent ML. I pick
The Princess (from the Mario Bros. Series) Not much to say here. She has been in the background a lot, but was a lead character in SMB2. I can't miss a chance to pick up a recongnizible character from the Mario stable in round 6. I'll feel a lot better about this if my suprise sleeper pick lasts until my next pick (doubtful). |
Outstanding pick with Carmen Sandiego actually. I completely forgot about her, great one.
Ughh, I wasn't ready to pick again so soon! Gimme 5 minutes to come up with something. |
Alright, this one took a little bit of thought, and I had several options. I ended up going with the guy who is the ultimate Nazi Zombie killer. I'm actually really surprised that this guy is still on the board as he's really the man who started the FPS craze. He's the one, the only.....
BJ Blaskowitz Wolfenstein 3D He paved the way for the future successes of Space Marine, Gordon Freeman, and countless others. Who doesn't remember the joy from blasting the hell out of Adolf Hitler in some sorta funky robotic Gatling Gun wielding suit? Ahh, the memories. I'd actually planned on making this pick much earlier in the draft, don't know why I didn't. I'm glad he was still around. |
Good old BJ...
Eagle Eye is up. |
I like the BJ pick - good pick.
|

I think there was a better character from the Mario series still on the board. |
I'm going to use Eagle Eye's second pick from his last PM on his behalf. I don't think he'll mind.
Eagle Eye takes Alucard (from Castlevania) |
With the 6th pick of the 6th round I'll take
Prince from Prince of Persia. Not sure if he's in the new one, but he was pretty cool in the first two :) |
Well, I really hate to drop back into Street Fighter mode, but since he's still available, I'm going to go with:
M. Bison (Street Fighter series) One of the top badasses in video game history, and boy he was a bitch to beat in Street Fighter II Turbo. If you could master his moves, you could be nearly unbeatable. Bonus points for being one of the few enemies you could actually ever control. |
I have a pick for Corbes, but I'll hold off for a while unless I see Ramzavail lurking around waiting for his turn.
|
I was waiting for Prince to get taken. Real good pick this late I think.
|
No love for Sephiroth and Alucard, two of the 5 most badass video game characters ever? I personally feel Sephiroth is the most memorable character outisde of cloud from any FF game and that Alucard is a better choice than Simon Belmont who was taken a while ago.
|
I like the Bison pick...too me he's a steal this late in the draft!
|
Quote:
Difference of opinion here, but I can't believe that you think Alucard is a better choice than Simon Belmont. Just defending my pick :) |
I agree that Sephiroth is THE best villian of the FF Series, close second to Kefka, he (Sephiroth) is the 2nd most memorable character of the FF Series. I agree.
As a HUGE Castlevania fan - Alucard was great, the game (SOTN) was the best of the series - even though I was on the fence about this earlier - Simon Belmont is the top character IMO from the series. Edit: You can pick for Corbes - I will be around for the next hour or so - if not - I will choose my pick at 9:00 AM EST tomorrow morning when I get to work. |
Nah, we've waited long enough. It's a good pick, anyways, so he won't mind.
Corbes selects Wario. |
