Do we know if Raymond was okay? That looked pretty painful - going ass-first completely unprotected into the boards like that.
|
Ugh...yikes
Quote:
I don't know my rulebook, but was that boarding? Was there a penalty to be called there? On just watching it, as a Bruins fan obviously, it just seemed like an unfortunate accidental "worst case scenario" where you've got two guys battling for position, one gets wrapped around the other's stick and then checked into the boards, only because he's wrapped around the stick funny and off-balance he can't take the hit the way he normally would. But if it ought to have been penalized, by all means, educate me and I'll jump right on board with that. |
I don't think it was boarding. It was just a very unfortunate and akward type of hit. No penalty was called. Boarding is almost always (only?) called when a player gets hit from behind and into the boards. Here, Raymond has his back to the board and was bent over facing Boychuck who then checked him into the boards. It was because of the way he was bent over that the injury occurred.
It sucks about the injury. It really does. Back stuff is always scary, but I don't see how it was a penalty or what the league would review. |
Quote:
That's what I thought re: boarding and the nature of the hit and all. Just very very unfortunate and awkward, but not sure how you'd call a penalty or review it. Don't like to see anyone injured. Particularly back stuff. |
I grew up in NJ, where you get your driver's license at 17. Undoubtedly, there's a kid walking out of an NJ DMV today proudly clutching his new badge of freedom.
He was born on the day the Rangers won their last Stanley Cup. :( |
Quote:
wait til you see how many kids are getting their license 9 months from now |
That GIF is a good argument for the idea that penalties should carry over from game to game in a playoff series.
Sedin takes Marchand's nonsense because he doesn't want to spoil the PP he has coming. Remember how in school and other places, even acting in your own defense gets you punished to the same extent as the aggressor? That's the assumption he's working under. So failing to react to Marchand shouldn't impugn Sedin. |
Quote:
A couple counter-points: 1) In those scrums you can generally do anything short of dropping the gloves and get away with it. Certainly blocking a punch or tying up the other guy will not get you a penalty. 2) This was essentially garbage time. If there was ever a time to defend yourself and prove you aren't a bitch, this was it. |

Uhm, not a chance in hell...GO BRUINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

At least you were alive the last time your team won a cup |

Hehe Thnx from down south! |

I would have to agree, but as a Sharks fan I had already built up a pretty good lack of respect for the Cannucks from the last series. I will say it is odd, the Rome hit is the play that they will play over and over for years as being the defining moment of the series and I found that to be one of the least offensive things Vancouver did. |

What's a Stanley Cup Final? /Sharks fan. |

Hey, it was quite the accomplishment to pull that off in NHLPA '93 for the Genesis - it would say something like "the feistiest fish win the cup!" when you won the cup with them. Not the most exciting easter egg/win screen at the time, though it seemed that way somehow. |

Well, they've only awarded the thing 5 times since the league started back in '05. /Pens fan |

Was just about to post this, too...great stuff, Sean. |
I thought the last DGB was one of the best (if not the best) I've read, but that one is great as well. You are on a roll ML.
How to present the Stanley Cup |
Quote:
that's a beaut |
It really is fantastic. Great work as always, ML.
|
Hilarious!
|
I emailed that one to all my friends. Super good.
|
Thanks guys... wasn't expecting this one to crazy like it did, but glad people seemed to enjoy it.
|

Is crazy up there in Canadia? |

I've had half a dozen calls from buddies to play hockey tonight because guys are bailing to watch the game...and the Oilers aren't even involved. Heck, in my neck of the woods, the Canucks are a very close second to most hated team right behind the Flames...so, I'd say we like our Stanley Cup hockey up here. For the record, I said no to all the offers to play hockey tonight...AND, I was working until 3am this morning and I fully intend to watch the game and enjoy several brewskies. |
DGB is getting mentioned everywhere, from DVDVR
April/May/June NHL thread - Death Valley Driver Video Review Message Board to grantland: Dear Hockey Idiot: Here Are Answers to All Your Questions About Game 7. You're Welcome. - The Triangle Blog And Simmons just tweeted this. Never mind my fucked up knee, I want to run through a brick wall now. |
Great stuff as always Sean!
|
Didn't realize Recchi said this would be his last game...
|
I love it when the crowd sings O Canada
|
If VAN continues getting these chances without scoring and then Luongo gives up a softie, it's over.
|
Quote:
Keep talking please? Bergeron!! Long long way from over though. |
More traffic in front of Luongo and more shots on goal please...
|
Home Team 6-0
First Team Scoring 6-0 SOMEONE'S O MUST GO! |
Uh oh, Chara takes an elbow up high..
|
Quote:
He seemed to be fine. |
You ever get the feeling the NHL issued a directive to the refs to let em go at it tonight.. reminds me of the line before the climactic game in Rollerball (the original):
"Tonight's Championship final will be played with no substitutions, no penalties.. and no time limits!" |
OMG...I thought that was in. Can we get a look at that on replay in the next stoppage please?!?!?!
Oh okay - totally not. Damnit!!! |
Marchand rings the post.
|
Quote:
Just like Game 7 against the Lightning. |
The few seconds..
"NO, CHARA! ARRRGGHHH YES CHARA!!! WHEW!" |
Quote:
Exactly |
Looks like Thomas is going to get a shutout
|
Man, the ESPN.Com chat is just doing everything short of coronation on Tyler Seguin.. they're saying he's going to be a Top 10 player within four years. I don't know about that, at least he is playing better..
|
MARCHAND!!
|
That's two! Keep it up!
|
Own goal Luongo. He just looks very tentative tonight.
|
I'm convinced someone in the Bruins' brass made a deal with the devil.
|
Quote:
What's the price they had to pay? Might be worth it... |
Wow, they let the flying elbow go but call that? Ok.. Time for a PK, bruins!
|
SHORTIE! OR A PENALTY SHOT!
|
That is embarrassing.
|
Vancouver must of not have gotten the memo this is Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
|
President's Trophy curse waited a LONG time to rear it's ugly head..
|
Game's far from over. Here in Boston we don't celebrate this early. Especially against a talented team like this. They could easily come out in the 3rd and make it a game in a matter of minutes.
|
Grats DT, Foz, et all.
Do you realize, barring a miracle, the fucking Pats will have the longest title drought of all Boston sports teams? |
Quote:
Far from over DeTroxRox. Far from over. |
3 years in a row the Flyers lost to the eventual Cup Champions.
|
WOULD YOU GUYS STOP!!! YOU'RE GOING TO JINX SHIT!!!!!!
|
Heh. Twenty minutes to play. Feel Good, but Bruins Fans remember a Game 7 from a year ago..
|
Quote:
If there was anybody but 7uongo at the other end I'd agree with you. But its done. Even if Boston gives up some chances, Thomas doesn't give up 3. |
Quote:
And that would be a bad thing how  |
Quote:
Even Michael Leighton....thought so! |
Damn....Vancouver has choked on the cup.....At least I get to say I saw the 2011 Stanley Cup champs play in real life.
Gratz DT! |
Don't congratulate me. Game's not over...and even if/when it is I had nothing to do with it.
|
Now you're getting ME to yell stop jinxing stuff :)
Seriosuly, the Bruins have had like three real "scoring" chances (not including the two where the Canucks drove people into their own goalie) and have three goals. |
Love this tweet

|
Good job Boston! Enjoy the parade.
:D |
Quote:
:p LOL..... The game I was at TD Garden to watch was the Bruins / Maple Leafs....for a Sabres fan, who do you root for? I wanted to get out of the Garden alive so it was the Bruins....on top of that...there is no way in hell I could root for the Leafs.... |
If this hockey goalie thing doesn't work out at least Luongo can have a nice career as a matador. Ole!
|
A Certain DownGoesBrown with a couple great tweets:
Boston goals: Slot one-timer; Wraparound where goalie is run over; Push goalie into net on breakaway. This game is brought to you by NHL 94. QUOTE Fourth goal will come when they go fivehole with the pass button from the red line. |
Game over!
|
You know what, Instead of yelling at people to stop jinxing things, I'm just gonna start eating people's spleens... :P :)
|
If things go bad here I'm putting all you assholes in this thread who jinx things onto ignore.
|
BTW, since I have to be working (and I have to keep my leg elevated), I have a stream of the game up.. Normally I'd be back and forth to the TV, but I can't walk right.. so I just realized that this CBC feed is from Montreal (but is in english).. and they just had an add for a concert by this guy:

I'll buy you a beer when I am in town.... |
cheap shot by Hansen - can i get a game misconduct?
|
The upside, I guess, is that if the Bruins win the Cup, then the Leafs will be only Original 6 team not to win since color TV was invented.
|
Maybe a penalty on the B's before that, but the Canucks player didn't get the call, saw red, and cheapshotted a guy. Lucky it's not a major.
|
wow, what a douchebag
|
Quote:

|
Hah! They just had a picture on the CBC feed of Thomas's wife and little girl, the little girl (like 4 or 5) was standing in a sea of Blue Canucks Jersey, and waving a Bruins Towel :D
|
Looking more and more like Boston scored as many goals in game 3 as Vancouver will get in the series. Yikes.
|
Quote:
Only if they get a goalie. :D |
Quote:
Dumb, dumb penalty. What was he thinking? |
Quote:
Thank God for Toronto |
Wow, no Penalty on the hug and hold to prevent a breakaway?
And Burrows with a spear to the leg... |
Luongo looks scared on the breakaways. He just got lucky that Bergeron miscontrolled that puck otherwise he would have let another one just slide by him.
|
Worst game 7 ever?
|
How the fuck is Hansen still in the game? Weak ass refereeing, and I don't think I've ever done a 180 in a series where I came in wanting one team to win and then ending up praying they don't. The Canucks are little bitches almost to a man.
|
And there's an empty netter!
|
Game over....call the midget team in to play the garbage time...
|
4th year in a row the Cup will be awarded on Away ice.
|
Recchi on the ice to celebrate the cup? :)
|
So...does Canada secede from the union now?
|
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
|
Grats DT.
I think I'll be a Tim Thomas fan for life. |
Wow. I thought the Bruins had a chance before the series, but when they lost the two heartbreakers, I won't deny that I was concerned.. but the B's have the cup.
Wow. |
Quote:
Nothing to do with me! But I'll be at the parade! |
Congratulations all you Boston fans!
