If a guy hitting .198 for the year gets the winning hit.. Detroit will burn.
|
He keeps throwing offspeed stuff. This is how he gets rocked.
|
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
|
About time.
|
Twins win! Twins win!
|
Detox, check out Gomez's hair. It's glorious!
|
Can we fire Leyland now?
|
Congratulations Twins fans.
I hope to see Leyland gone soon but I won't. |
At least the city of Detroit still has the Lions
|
Grats to the Twins.
I didn't watch a single game the Tig's played this year, and I have no clue who this pitcher is, but even I knew he should have been yanked a while ago. |
Don't drink too much champagne, Twins. You don't want to be hung over for your game in less than 24 hours.
|
Congradulations to the Twins. They earned it. Go beat the Yankees, please.
As for the Tigers? They should be forced to eat their owners pizza. |
Jim Leyland makes Eric Wedge look competent.
|
Seriously, why keep Rodney in for this inning? I don't root for either of these teams, but that just didn't make any sense. I understand trying to save arms for the playoffs, but uhm don't you have to get there first?
|
Why are they still hyping Leyland?
|
ZOMG PURPLE SUIT
|
And It does irk the shit out of me to see such horrible managing, even if it is a team I have no interest in. ARG
|
Leyland should be fired, Cabrera should be traded along with Granderson (my favorite Tiger), Laird should be cut, and Iorg should replace Everett.
I hate being a Tigers fan. |
Quote:
I was a fan of Leyland until last season when it became obvious to me that he had no idea what he wanted out of a team. He still doesn't. He was managing today with tomorrow in mind. Gardenhire managed today with just today in mind. That's the difference. |
Maybe the Tigers just didn't feel like getting swept by the Yanks and decided ahh fuck it lets end our season now and not in another series.
|
Rodney should have been out a long time ago. This sucks.
|
Game 1 is 20 hours from now. Talk about a adrenaline hangover going into tommorrow.
|
Quote:
I feel for you , honestly, the last few weeks of managing were absolutely dreadful for you guys. The team didn't completely suck (they did somewhat) but the Managing was fucking awful. |
Still not sure how Inge wasn't hit though.
|
Quote:
I don't watch the AL at all but your comment seemed to be dead on. Gardenhire didn't seem to care how many pitchers he burned through. Leyland seemed like he was set on the fact he was only using one reliever to try and play for tomorrow and didn't want to burn his pen. |
Hop on the plane, bitches!
|

LOL looked up the story behind that. That's harsh. I thoroughly enjoyed finding out that besides Ilitch, the 4 others that hold the key to the city are: James Earl Jones, Jerome Bettis, neurosurgeon Benjamin Carson, and...*drumroll please*.......Saddam Hussein! I think when Saddam Hussein has the key to your city, it's time to change the locks. |
Quote:
Yep exactly. Gardenhire was trying to get to the playoffs, and Leyland was trying to prepare for the playoffs... |
Hey, that's at least another $15-20k (each) grand those guys made tonight. Not a bad day's work. Plus, they get t-shirts. ;)
|

Pitching Figaro on Saturday proved that completely. No way in hell that guy should been pitching in that situation. |
Quote:
Very very true. The sad thing is I really doubt he will be fired. even though they completely collapsed this last week, they still were just one game away from the playoffs. |
How the fuck does a team blow a division lead like this? They were in first place since May for fuck's sake. They had a 7 game lead on September 8. They had a 3 game lead with 4 left to play. And they STILL fucked it up.
*facepalm* |
Quote:
Who are we going to hire that is better? As bad as Leyland is some games, this team had no business being where they were. The players he has at his disposal are horrible outside of Cabrera. Ordonez and Polanco finished strong. I know I'm going to get hammered on but I think you gotta move on from guys like Inge, Thames, Everett and Polanco (getting old). Especially Inge. I'd like to see this next year C - Avilla 1B - Cabrera 2B - ? (a real lead off hitter?) 3B - ? SS - Iorg / Santiago LF - Rayburn / Thomas CF - Granderson RF - Ordonez DH - Guillen 1 - Verlander 2 - Jackson 3 - Porcello 4 - Bonderman 5 - ? Ni, Lyons, Perry, Seay, and Miner in the pen. The position players are getting old. |
Quote:
You gotta give the Twins credit for winning something like 17 of their last 21 too. |
Quote:
Absolutely. However, if the Tigers don't have a complete meltdown in the last month, none of this even happens. All they had to do was win enough to keep the division, and they couldn't even do it. Unbelievable. Is this one of the worst end of season choke jobs of all time? Anyone know? I am too lazy to look it up right now. |
Quote:
This Met fan says hi. |
Quote:
I think I heard that no team had blown a 2 game division lead with 3 games to go. |
Quote:
They blew a 3 game lead with 4 left, no team had ever done that before. |
Quote:
 Ahh, yes. 2007 was it? |
Man, that's a tough one to lose for Detroit, I was hoping they'd get in.
It was a great game though and it has me fired up for the playoffs. Hopefully Minnesota can knock the Yankees. |
I for sure would not want to be any part of the Tigers right now. management or player or trainer or ball boy. It would just suck. 3 up with 4 to play, and you end up not making the playoffs. At least Royals fans new they weren't going anywhere around may/june. The Tigers just did a great Fuckjob on their fans.
|
Quote:
It's still better to come close and miss out than lose 90+ games imo. But at least Royals fans got to watch Grienke so they had it better than fans of some other 90+ loss teams. |
|
The Tigs over their last 30 games were something like 17-13 which is right around what they did all season. The Twins over their last 30 games won at a .630 clip. It wasn't as much a choke as the Twins playing amazing and Detroit playing like they had all year.
As far as next year, I am with Balldog, we need to reshape the roster but won't. I'd at least let Polly go. Offer him arbitration and get an A or B pick. If he comes back on a one year deal, fine, if not, good. Inge is probably untradeable because of the money he is owed, but obviously you get rid of Thames and let Huff and Everett walk. Also you say good bye to Rodney, and sign Lyon as the cheaper of the two options. Then what I'd ideally do is try and get Carl Crawford from TB. Put him in LF, Grandy in CF, and platoon Raburn/Maggs in RF. Guillen is your DH, and you bring up Sizemore to play 2B. Crawford isn't a savior but on this team he is what exactly what we need. A threat on the base paths with tons of speed and solid D. It lets Grandy move down in the order where he belongs and maybe, just maybe the team competes in a year or two. Otherwise, be ready for more rebuilding. |

Thames is still with the Tigers? Huh, who knew. |
Quote:
annnnnnnd 2008, welcome to our world. On another note, I would LOVE to see Pavano have a chance to knock the Yanks out of the playoffs, not likely, but that would be epic. |
Does it make me a non-baseball fan that now that the Tigers are done, I won't watch one second of the playoffs?
|
Quote:
You might come around. I stopped watching baseball for the most part after the Mets debacle this yr, but after watching tonight's game, it reminded me how great this game is, so I'll probably be watching some playoffs in hopes of seeing games such as this. Although, when I watched the Mets collapse in '07-'08, I was so disgusted I don't think I watched a bit of playoff baseball. |
Quote:
I honestly don't want to see another inning of baseball right now. I especially don't want to see the Twins whatsoever. |
awesome game
