Interesting that MN was called for Obama and ND for McCain at poll closings. Neither results are a surprise of course.

My aunt is a 3rd grade teacher in Georgia and she had a student tell her that her mother said that if Obama wins, she'll shoot him herself.

Either that or they can tell which results posted include early voting & which don't. You could do some reasonable extrapolation with that info.

But at the same time, I'm not seeing things that would lead me to call based strictly on what's been posted so far. Little snapshots, such as Wilkes County which went 55% Bush (statewide was 58%) in '04 being completed tonight with Chambliss leading Martin 49.4% to 48.5%. That's within the margin for an outright win if everything held up the same way elsewhere but it also showed a virtual zero change in total votes from 4 years ago, meaning it doesn't appear reliable as a predictor (since it didn't experience increased activity).

I'm on CNN's website but listening to MSNBC and it's pretty funny how they keep calling different states.

Somebody needs to emphasize the importance of leaving what's said at home at home.

Do you think that the state would collect more sales tax revenue and would see a long-term increase in new jobs (thanks to lower taxes) and more individual spending? Would it stop the flight of people to places like New Hampshire.

NC is now at 100,000 difference (Obama leading). Virginia is separated by 25,000 votes (McCain leading). Indiana is at 40,000 votes (McCain leading). Florida is at 200,000 votes (Obama leading).

No 2004 red state has flipped yet (at least according to CNN and MSNBC), but those 4 are really close.

random observation - Obama @ 174 right now according to CNN estimates.

Therefore, CA (55) + FL (27) + OH (20) puts him over the top (assuming all "calls" hold)
