I think Maple Leafs was being classless by picking all 8 winners correctly. He didn't even give anyone a chance to beat him.

Yeah I'm sure you'd like a chance to beat him.

I'm not really into the S&M anymore after that unfortunate fatal incident in Norfolk that I had nothing to do with...

Of the 3 BIG Free Agents in that class (Gomez, Drury, & Briere), I think it is safe to say the Flyers made the right choice.

Thanks, prick, what else does that say?

:)

All things considered, I love Ryan McDonaugh. What a steal that trade was.

That the Rags didn't learn their lesson and did the same thing with Gaborik? ;)

Round 2

Caps in 6 - Tampa beat Pittsburgh when Pens couldn't score, not a problem for Caps
Bruins in 7 - toughest pick, but not sold on the 3 headed goaltender monster

Canucks in 6 - Scare in 1st round helps Vancouver
Sharks in 6 - I should know better than betting against Detroit, but Sharks hung under the radar this year compared to previous seasons.

RomaGoth 04-28-2011 10:19 PM

My worthless predictions for Round 2:

Lightning in 7 - I still am not sold that the Capitals are a Cup team, and I never bet against Stevie Y.

Flyers in 6 - I don't see the Bruins being a serious Cup contender either.

Canucks in 7 - Nashville plays tough defense and their goalie is outstanding, but the Canucks have more firepower, and that will be the difference in this series

Wings in 7 - Another good series between these two teams will result in a game 7, down to the wire, win by Detroit.

bbor 04-28-2011 10:54 PM

Caps in 6
Flyers in 5
Nucks in 5
wings in 6

Crosby: Symptoms recurred during comeback try - NHL.com - News

Quote:

Penguins star Sidney Crosby is optimistic about returning fully healthy for next season, but acknowledges he recently had a setback in his recovery from a concussion.

Crosby, who didn’t play this season after Jan. 5, stopped skating with his teammates during off-day practices and morning skates midway through the Penguins’ seven-game playoff series loss to Tampa Bay because he began experiencing concussion-related symptoms.

Previously, Crosby said those included headaches that made it impossible to take part in any physical activity.

http://plus.sites.post-gazette.com/i...ght-counseling

Quote:

One of the most interesting nuggets to come out of the Penguins' Break Up Day activities today is that left winger Matt Cooke received counseling shortly after being assessed what proved to be a 17-game suspension last month.
It was done, he said, with the approval of Penguins officials.
He characterized with people with whom he spoke as "good people."
Cooke was suspended for the final 10 games of the regular season and the first round of the playoffs after delivering a nasty blow to the head of New York Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh.

I love Jack. He's so over the top it's ridiculous. Sometimes I wonder how Brick can stand him.

Someone with more hockey acumen than me (and less invested in this particular game) tell me how the fuck Pavelski gets a roughing penalty for getting punched in the back of the head?

Vince, Pt. II 04-30-2011 12:23 AM

Seems like both of the last two penalties against the Wings have been awful calls too.

But not as bad as the Pavelski call.

Hell, the Bertuzzi call was legit IMO.

Lets go Sharks!

I thought at the time he got it for going after Flippula in the scrum afterwards, but it was "drawn by Howard" supposedly.

The Heatley penalty was pretty lame early, and I would have preferred in general that the Eaves slash be let go when under ten minutes in a tied playoff game. It *was* a slash, but ehhhhh.

Anyway. Woooooooo! and Happy Birthday Benny! Go get three more.

McSweeny 04-30-2011 07:48 PM

It was very nice to see the Bruins' first line to snap out of it this afternoon.

McSweeny 04-30-2011 07:49 PM

dola

However 0/23 on the powerplay is not so hot. I wonder if they'll ever score another power play goal again. They look completely lost when they have a man advantage. It's maddening.

Yeah, the Bruins' powerplay has been a complete non-factor for about two months now. Kaberle has added nothing to the team really.

Kaberle has actually made it worse. It's something like 7% since the trade.

Galaxy 05-01-2011 12:50 AM

Great game in Vancouver.

Wolfpack 05-01-2011 01:13 AM

This just in: Pekka Rinne is good.

For all that Luongo did to keep Vancouver tied or ahead for the first 59 minutes, Rinne pretty much one-upped him with some absurd saves in the OTs. Gonna be interesting to see how Vancouver bounces back. The way they blew Nashville off the ice in everything but score only in Game One seemed to indicate that they were truly playing without the awful weight of the Blackhawks history on them and I thought they actually had a decent chance to make a short series of it. Credit to Nashville for bringing the fight tonight and forcing a split going back home.

As an outsider, SJ-DET was really shocking to me. The way the Sharks carried the play, especially in the 2nd, was something I haven't seen in anyone do to Detroit in awhile. They out-Winged the Wings.

Amazing that the Leafs and their associated assets are worth $2bn, and the NHL can't even shuck off the 'Yotes for $150mil.

That's pretty much the way it has been the past two seasons. For whatever reason the Sharks seem to have their number.

With that said, this series is by no means anywhere close to over as this was the first time the Sharks played well following a win this post season.

As for the second period, the Sharks have been very good this postseason outscoring opponents 13-7 in the 2nd. Seems like they either wake up or make some coaching adjustments each game.

Pretty obvious one of the reasons the Bruins powerplay can't do shit is they don't put anyone in front of the net. You have Lucic and Horton on the ice playing like snipers at the top of the faceoff circle, absolutely bizarre. I've seen Krejci go to the net more often than those two this game, and he's nearly got a couple of goals to show for it.

Dr. Sak 05-02-2011 09:36 PM

Boston should be up big time in this game.

JvR is playing like a man possessed.

Great GWG there as the refs review it after the play and get the call correct on a ROCKET from Krejci that was hit so hard it caromed back out of the net.

B's win 3-2 in overtime!!

His progress not just this year, but like the last 3 months, is ridiculous.

Not playoffs news, but there is no offseason thread yet.

You wouldn't want to be the guy who follows a legend.
You'd want to be the guy who follows the guy who follows a legend.

Paul Steigerwald is the former. He took over as the Penguins' TV play-by-play broadcaster in 2006-07, succeeding the incomparable Mike Lange.
Will Doc Emrick, the voice of network hockey, be the latter?
Rumors are flying that Steigerwald will be replaced. His contract is expiring. So is Emrick's pact with the New Jersey Devils. Emrick has a modicum of Pittsburgh roots, having taught speech and broadcasting from 1969-71 at Geneva College in Beaver Falls. He's a die-hard Pirates fan. Penguins management feels the club has become an international brand worthy of a big-name announcer.

It's coming from Mark Madden, so take with a HUGE grain of salt.

Dr. Sak 05-03-2011 09:53 AM

Doc's price tag went up just a little more after winning a Sports Emmy last night for the best play by play guy in sports.

Suburban Rhythm 05-03-2011 10:22 AM

As long as he and Colin White don't come as a package deal, I'm cool with it.

samifan24 05-03-2011 11:55 AM

I can't stand Doc Emrick's voice. I heard "Crosby sends it on to Malkin" in a high pitched whine in my head.

Suburban Rhythm 05-03-2011 02:22 PM

Hmmm, I need to rethink this.

Doc "DRRRRRRRRRRRIVE...and wide" + Kris Letang from the point = lo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ng season

Logan 05-03-2011 03:07 PM

Have you heard the phrase "sashays the puck across the ice" recently?

DaddyTorgo 05-03-2011 03:13 PM

Getting emotionally invested in these playoffs has me wanting to stop on my way home and pick up NHL11 for my PS3.

Galaxy 05-03-2011 03:48 PM

My problem with Emrick is he doesn't do play-by-play when they're actually playing. Save the commentary during the stops, not during the action. Call the action.

Pumpy Tudors 05-03-2011 06:44 PM

Stop talking shit about my boy Doc Emrick. He's my favorite play-by-play commentator of all time. I have no comment on Steigerwald, but I'll never figure out why everyone in Pittsburgh loves Mike Lange. He sounds like an old great grandfather who's about to keel over at any second. Then again, there's a lot I don't really get about Pittsburgh when it comes to sports. To me, the only thing Pittsburgh fans seem to do properly is cheer for the arena football team, but given that its record is 3-4 right now, that probably won't last much longer.

But I digress. I'd watch much more Penguins hockey if Doc was doing the play-by-play for them. Since this rumor is coming from Mark Madden, though, I won't put any stock in it. Mark Madden is a piece of shit, and I hope he chokes on a cough drop in front of his family at his own birthday party, and the only way anyone can help him is to piss down his throat.

Dr. Sak 05-03-2011 09:20 PM

Tampa Bay has won 6 in a row right now.

SackAttack 05-03-2011 09:24 PM

The Bruins and Lightning are making this Panthers fan happy.
