How hard is it to make a game?

I know nothing about physics, and all the advanced technologies being used to create the games we play, but I do know how to form a great concept and ensure my product is playable, and enjoyable upon release.

Lately I've been sitting back thinking over all the games I've played, especially sports games. And a lot just doesn't add up. Didn't 2k know that Prizefighter wouldn't be enjoyable after the first go around, or that NBA 2K9 had visual issues, and MLB 2K9 has A LOT of technical issues. Didn't EA realize that our menu system sucks, our player models look cartoonish, and adding flashes in the stands isn't really necessary.

Didn't all these sports games scream out for a legitimate celebration feeling after winning the big one? How many people had to feel let down after playing the final product in-house? Yet time and time again these companies released their products and we just gobbled them up for a ridiculous amount of money. I had all these games only to be let down. How come the best sports game ever made came out 4 years ago?

Don't we have better systems, better ideas, and a better market now than 4 years ago? Then why are we regressing and not progressing?

I don't know the answer, maybe it's sheer laziness and the acceptance of the status quote. But I for one, know how to make a great game, too bad the people that get paid to do so, don't!

didn't you read the part that I don't understand all the technological aspects of making a game? If I did I would have been made one. And I barely get anything off the XBL Market, I find a lot of that stuff not suitable to my taste in games. I just don't understand how we could have stronger consoles then we did back then yet, back then we had the better games. I think the DLC and patching has ruined the initial quality of games now. Maybe that's the case?
