With the Playstation 4 almost certainly set to debut on Wednesday, we are now on official countdown mode to the close of this gaming generation. The generation that brought us new gaming staples like Gears of War, Bioshock, Call of Duty, and Uncharted also brought us a lot of good when it came to sports gaming.

Titles have slowly dwindled in number, but the titles that do remain all have some good marks next to ... Read More

College basketball is on the mind of many OS'ers right now.

It's been a busy week here at Operation Sports, with Yukes and 2K being revealed to be business partners and with more info leaking out about some big releases in the first half of the year. We know a lot more about Grid 2, and we know more about The Show coming up this year as well.

We're starting a new Friday tradition at Operation Sports, ... Read More

In our entirely fictional NCAA Football 13 twenty team playoff simulation, we have already had several surprises. The quarterfinals simulation was no different and now, we're down to four teams total as we head into the National Semifinals. This is where it gets serious my friends.

Florida State at Notre Dame

EJ Manual was on fire early and often in this game, completing ten of his first ten passes ... Read More

In case you missed it today, the newest version of Out of the Park Baseball was announced today in OOTP 14. As a long time fan of the series, I'm pumped about this year's game as much as ever. Here's what I especially like to hear about after reading the new features list...

Pitchers and catchers report next week, which means baseball gaming season is almost here. For iOS apps, the time to jump aboard a great baseball game is now. There are plenty of baseball offerings, and throughout the season we'll try to detail as many of the good ones as we can -- today though, let's focus on two of the more popular hardball offerings.

Are you unhappy with college football gaming's status quo?

Well time to put your money where you mouth is, at least that's the hope of a relatively unknown developer in Dirty Bird Sports who just launched a $500,000 Kickstarter campaign to fund a new NCAA Football game that proposes it will feature all 689 teams from Division I all the way to NAIA for the XBox 360 and PS3.

You read that right. ... Read More

Ok show of hands, who wants to go back and play NBA 2K9 vs. 2K13?

Remember any of the first games of this console generation? Remember how archaic those games feel compared to today's games?

Me too.

Sports games, year after year and release after release are quietly improving by leaps and bounds and we haven't even really taken much notice of that fact.

Don't believe me?

Our highly hypothetical, completely fictional, and just for fun 20 team playoff to determine a National Champion digitally in FBS football continues with our NCAA Football 13 simulation! We're now onto the quarterfinals as the final four games of the second round were simulated this morning! Let's get to the results!

Well we're halfway through the second round of our completely hypothetical college football 20 team playoff simulation. Here's the link for the past rounds and the setup for how this all works:

-Intro

As you can tell, we're now halfway through the second round. Here's how the games shook out:

In a case that started out as a simple suit against college sports video games for player likenesses has now expanded into a fundamental test of the claims of the NCAA about amateurism of it's athletes.

In a ruling released yesterday, Judge Claudia Wilkin rejected a motion that players in the antitrust suit led by former UCLA basketball star Ed O'Bannon should be prevented from advancing their lawsuit on procedural ... Read More

Well, that's one round down in our hypothetical but still fun field of twenty for NCAA FBS Football! The first round 'play-in' games if you will, all were pretty solid matchups and all featured some pretty strong squads.

Northern Illinois at Michigan

Northern Illinois had a magical sort of year leading up to their real-to-life crushing defeat from Florida State. In real life, the Huskies were just ... Read More

They say to determine a true champion, you have to have a playoff. While we have to wait one more season before we can get a real four-team NCAA Football playoff, that isn't the case in NCAA Football 13.

What I've done is taken the final BCS rankings of the regular season and then created a twenty team bracket just as the NCAA does for it's FCS level of competition. ... Read More

Here are two significant numbers: 37.4 million and 6.4 million.

Each number represents the 2012 attendance totals for NCAA Football in both FBS and FCS football.

One number is not a record, the other number is an all-time record.

One sport has never been hotter, the other has been better.

There is no better argument for why FCS Schools aren't in NCAA Football this generation ... Read More

Remember the magic of NCAA Football 2001?

If your thinking cap is on, you will remember that the very last game to step foot on the PS One in the NCAA Football series had a very unique feature: the ability to nix all bowls at the end of the season and settle things with an old fashioned playoff.

To me, this was one of the coolest old features in the game, as I remember epic struggles while fighting ... Read More

It appears that Operation Sports readers aren't as excited about the MLB 2K13 announcement as gaming writers.

In the poll (non-scientific through and through), just 16% of OS Readers reported they are for sure buying the game. When combined with people leaning yes, that number is at or near 25%.

63% of Operation Sports readers are not planning on buying the game. When combined with readers leaning ... Read More
